“It is an accounting position, yes. This is maybe the best job I've ever had in my life and I'd be happy to stay here until I retire, honestly. It may not be exciting or glamorous or anything, but it is definitely neat to know I'm contributing in a background way to the function…”
“Thank you too! Fingers crossed. We have lots to learn but enjoying it so far! [re: Will you tell anyone about your success? Or keep it a secret?]”
“I just wanna share my feelings online. I graduated from Accounting in 2008. I'm turning 40 next year. Initially, when I graduated, I struggled with finding a job for a good five years. Worked minimum-waged jobs in the mean time. Then, finally got a job as a Tax Staff at one of…”

“I just wanna share my feelings online. I graduated from Accounting in 2008. I'm turning 40 next year. Initially, when I graduated, I struggled with finding a job for a good five years. Worked minimum-waged jobs in the mean time. Then, finally got a job as a Tax Staff at one of the big firms in Vancouver, BC in their US department. Worked there for a few years filing 1040s and 1120s, had no interest in getting promoted and moving on to Senior. In 2018, I moved horizontally to industry by star”
“I am feeling good right now just finished building out my accounting lab for beginners video project. Now I am going to enjoy the moment; I am sure it will not last long :) Have a happy Saturday”
“I do! I enjoy it a lot. I am remote so my cats guest star in every zoom meeting, when I do go into the office I get to dress cute, and my work culture, relative to where I am, feels relaxing. Even the crisis events are not treated as a meltdown crisis, and it has helped me feel a bit more grown up. I hope my future in this career continues in the same way. ❤️🎊 Thank you for asking!”
“I left my traditional in-office tax manager role and switched to fully remote + family friendly smaller firm. It’s the best decision I ever made. Everything feels manageable now and I rarely feel burnt out. I left in great terms with my previous firm and they told me if I ever wanted to step foot in the gas again, I am welcomed back. Soaking in the younger years. This is my version of “stepping back” and “slowing down” except I didn’t have to take a pay cut—if anything, I got a raise after switc”
“Like even if I have a stable ok-paying staff accountant job I just feel an extreme sense that I'm missing out if I don't pursue a career in audit/tax/public. Like it feels like my degree and education were a waste unless I go for public where I'll be surrounded by driven, career-striving people. Idk if I have Stockholm syndrome or something because when I did an audit internship two years it was extremely brutal, stressful, and I worked 70+ hours a week. Yet for some reason my brain”
“Just wanted to make a post since I’m so happy, but today is my first day of being a senior accountant at my new company! Finally being able to get to 6 figures means a lot to me :) For reference I had to take a pay cut and be a staff accountant at a company for the last 3.5 years. I decided this year was the year I was going to back to studying for my exams and apply to a new/better job. Now I’m finally making a senior accountant salary and I’m just so happy I wanted to post here😊 submitt”
It helps a little to know that this happens to other people. Thank you!
“As many of us do, I also waste time scrolling through Instagram and Tiktok (this one very recently tbf). I've noticed the vibe about our chosen career field seems to be significantly more positive on those platforms. I see people sharing 30s and 40s career shifts. I see people posting their salary progressions. I see people sharing their journeys to CPA, EA, CMA, etc. I see people sharing their experiences opening their own firms, job hopping, progressing up the corporate ladder. I feel like”
“I actually was lucky enough to find a great job as a cost accountant for a local manufacturer. I had no cost accounting experience before this so I’m grateful they took a chance on me. It helps that my boss doesn’t micromanage and I have the freedom to leave early/come in late for kid stuff with the understanding that I don’t abuse it and I get my work done.”
“I’ve been feeling stuck in IT for awhile and I never did enjoy it so I took some time to do some deep introspection and research so I landed on accounting, I love how stable the work is, the people I’ve encountered and asked about the work were actually super helpful and gave me valuable advice, connections and leads to get a AP/AR or bookkeeping job while I’m in school studying. This shocked me because the tech industry is very gatekeep-y when it comes to sharing knowledge because losing your a”
“Thank you for the reassuring words, spoke with the people around me and they all said variation of the same sentiment that I need to get out of tax and into industry”
“Same same I had no personal life as a result and just catching up after being single for the longest time gave my best years to working man, career wise am good now but a lot of catching up on the personal front T15 MBA should be good for you! I wanted to get one too but can’t stomach the cost of tuition 😅”
