“Thank you:) this time I'm uploading a picture. New heat pump is not kicking on the condenser outside to warm up home. Everything is electric only. Strangely old hear pump never kicked on outside unit either. So I'm hoping it's a thermostat wiring issue. What do you guys think?”

“We’re turning on the heat for the first time in our apartment. All we have is three of these wall mounted heaters. Is this remotely safe? submitted by /u/epicskier123 [link] [comments]”

“Hello! So this morning our heater wasn’t working, it’s an outside unit so I assume it’s probably just dirty. We have people coming out this week to check it out and clean it up. My question is, when they finish will they need to check the airflow to the inside vents? I have a dog who isn’t the most friendly with strangers and he will be secured in my room. Do you think they will let me check the vent in my room myself to see if hot air is coming through? or will they still want to check themselv”

“hi friends, i’m having issues with my apartments HVAC. the building is new - it was built earlier this year so everything is brand new. the layout of the apartment is long, with a narrow hallway and the living room one end and the master bedroom on the other end. the living room is FREEZING, whereas the master bedroom is not. the air blows but it’s not as cool as the living room which is weird because it’s half the size of the living room so you’d think it would get really cold. called the HVAC”

Any advice? Getting blasted with a torrent of hot/cold air constantly is not fun. Is it safe to stick like a giant screen in front of it or something? I'm kind of w”

“We are renting in a 100 year old house with cast iron radiators. When we turned the heat on for the first time recently it made a ton of noise. Landlord agreed to send out HVAC to check out the boiler ONLY, which they cleaned/inspected. The radiator units themselves are still making a ton of crazy noise. We figured creaky metal noise/some hissing is typical for this old system, but seems like more noise than it should be making. We have no idea what’s normal since this is our first time with thi”

“I live in an apartment. For a while I had no issues then the utility closet started to get noisy. At first I thought it was my water heater then realized it’s most likely the A/C. Maintenance came to check but I couldn’t get it noisy when they were here and couldn’t identify the source. So it’s obviously not a constant issue. I guess I’m also wondering if this is a normal noise level, as I just didn’t pay attention to it / notice until spending more time at home recently. What are your thoughts?”

“Our whole apartment smells funky even though it is freshly cleaned. I suspect it is from the AC, but I have been told by the apartment HVAC tech there is nothing to be done. The inside of this looks pretty bad, am I overreacting? If it is bad, what can I do to remediate the issue or advocate for myself? Since I moved in I have had bad congestion. I live in Houston if that is helpful info. submitted by /u/Jelli8 [link] [comments]”

“My furnace or thermostat control or something went out, which is causing both my air conditioning and heat to not work. This occurred on Saturday, October 3rd, and I reported it to my apartment's leasing office and maintenance team on Monday morning, October 5th. They initially told me the boilers weren't on so heat wouldn't work, but my heat was working one week prior so I pressed them on the issue. They finally sent maintenance end of day Monday (Oct 5th) and they were unable to fi”

“hello all, i moved into an old apartment this year and there’s no central heating or air. i have this gas furnace and as the colder seasons are approaching, i am absolutely terrified of it. there is a hefty layer of dust and previous tenants pet fur built up on it and underneath it. i dont have a photo of the backside but it seems….. interesting to say the least. any advice? or other ways i could maybe heat my apartment? its about 600 sq ft. i’ve looked at getting portable oil filled radiators.”

“Please, please, please tell me this isn’t mold!!!! These are two air conditioning vents in a house we bought in Dec. ‘25. My husband is convinced it’s just dust… I’m not. If it is mold, I don’t even know what to do or where to start! The AC is almost always running and keep the house around 72/73, and these vents are closest to the unit. We are in Florida and I know it’s humid, but neither of these are bathrooms. submitted by /u/Choice_Marsupial2243 [link] [comments]”

“Hi, I rent out of an apartment heard some dripping in the utility closet. The AC unit was leaking onto the water heater, for what looks like not the first time. The apartment's maintenance guy came over and cleaned out the drain line, then suggested I keep an eye out for drips over the next few days. Of course that seems... not great. Could I get a read on where this is between jury-rigged but okay-ish, versus needing to push the issue immediately? I'd expect there should be somewhere el”

“I am about to get the following systems installed for my downstairs unit... any feedback? I live in the Upstate SC so there is plenty of (historic) hot weather and the periodic very cold days. How reliable are the following systems: Lennox 4 Ton Elite Hybrid Full System 90 Up To 19.5 SEER2 (A2L) Navien 199K BTU Gas/Propane Condensing Tankless Water Heater Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat I'd love to hear from the frontline, but homeowner experience is awesome, too. “hello, i'm a college student living off-campus and paying to live in campus housing (american campus communities... i know). the HVAC unit is located in my bathroom, which is blocked off by a large metal panel in the ceiling. i moved in in 2024. the panel was missing a few screws when i moved in, but it ran fine, so no big deal, that was until i came home one night in early 2025 to find my bathroom flooded with rusty water actively pouring from the unscrewed holes in the panel. i called emer”

“Hello! My apartment smells like cat pee and I don’t think it’s from a cat. My roommate and I moved in about 1.5 months ago and the apartment has begun to increasingly smell like cat pee. I feel like there wasn’t a smell until maybe 2-3 weeks in. I have been gone for nearly 2 weeks and it was MUCH worse when I came back. My roommate and I are both very clean so I don’t think it’s a cleanliness issue. She was also gone for most of the time I was. There was no smell when I toured the apartment and”

“This is my first time living with a large hvac system like this. All the “Stop! Gas!” Warning labels on the side made me nervous I was going to break something haha. I scrolled through several other posts, but didn’t see one that looked like mine. submitted by /u/vrose17 [link] [comments]”

“Bro we are on the top floor so that’s even worse. But we had one cold day and they immediately came to turn on the heat and said not to use the AC because it could freeze the lines? Like WHAT?? It’s been up to 80 in my apartment and opening our 2 windows doesnt do crap. My dad said we could still use it just don’t have it on auto fan so no hot air blows out too. I’m just dying in here and I have a cat here too and I can’t imagine how hot it gets when I’m gone for the day either. I just turned it”

“I couldn't find an example of this situation online with the type of heater my apartment has, so figured I'd ask here. I opened up my heater to dust it before the weather gets cooler, and this one part looked really glittery, which set off my spidey senses. Could it be fiberglass?? (see photos) Google said if there is in fact a fiberglass layer in my heater, it wouldn't pose any health risks unless the layer has been disturbed or is very old. Well, it sure looks to be disturbed, and”

“I got rid of one of my bookshelves in anticipation of moving out of my ghetto-ass apartment, and the carpet where the bookshelf was is peeling away from the walls and there's this strip of black... I don't know. It smells like it's been burnt. Which makes no sense as I don't smoke/don't light candles. I would expect mold to smell differently, but maybe? What the fuck is this? submitted by /u/BlackberryBearoness [link] [comments]”
