“I had a 30 gallon when I first started fishkeeping. I downsized because I got tired of the water changes. I'll admit this was my first tank and I don't think I had enough plants to help with water quality. I have a 10 gallon now and I love it. There's lots of plants and I do…”
“currently housing 8 paskai rainbowfish, 30 shrimp, and 4 nerites could i add more fish or would it be bad for a) existing fish, b) tank, c) shrimp??? also sorry its a mess pls dont come for my jungle i will cut it back soon”
“Without getting into how or why, I am now responsible for a 75 gallon tank. It has a canister filter as well as a couple sponge filters. It's been cycled and is well planted, water parameters have been stable with nitrates never above 20 ppm. Tap water where I live sits around…”
Several aquarists are asking for advice on adding more plants to their tanks, specifically for providing hiding places for fish. One user is cycling a 15-gallon tank for guppies and Corydoras and is considering java plants. Another user is looking for carpeting plants.

“I’m currently in the process of cycling a bigger tank for Issac while he’s still in his current one. If I start removing plants/hides will that crash the cycle? I would like to keep him in his current one so I don’t stress him out…”

“Without getting into how or why, I am now responsible for a 75 gallon tank. It has a canister filter as well as a couple sponge filters. It's been cycled and is well planted, water parameters have been stable with nitrates never above 20 ppm. Tap water where I live sits around 7.5 to 8 pH and is relatively hard. The tank inhabitants are an EBA, geophagus tapajos, and an angelfish, with an unknown number (6 to 10?) of otos and a few corys. They all seem to get along fine so far. What could I”
“Im aware I need to get a longer and better light as this one is only about a 3W and isn't reaching all of the floor but I'm just not sure if I've planted the monte carlo right. It's been a few hours and it hasn't come out of my fluval but Google was saying to push it in so that only a few leaves are showing or it will pop right out- but I don't know how much I trust Google lmao. Also I got some blue stricta at the back that's too tall for the tank which makes it lean”
“I just started a 5 gallon planted tank to eventually get cherry shrimp and a snail or two. I have lots of experience with fish, but this is my first time with a planted tank. Unfortunately the plants I got from the store had many snails and limpet hitchhikers, and some planaria. The tank has been cycling for over a month and I’ve managed to take out some snails to keep that population at bay, but I’m having issues with the limpets and planaria. I’ve tried a planaria trap but it did nothing as al”
“All plants have the same tones. Which plant would you complement to make it more exciting. “Wondering if I should buy a co2 system for my fishtank. I haven't really got a lot if plants but they don't really look the best. Would it make my plant healthier/ be beneficial? Or should I just not worry about it ? Flora include: Varigated Rush Green pennywort x2 Blue stricta Lace fern Hairgrass Pearl weed Fauna include : 1 very fat Black Moor 5 Bristlenose Plecos Ramhorn snail Blue Cherry shrimp submitted by /u/Ginger_Cat071 [link] [comments]”
“I have all these extra plants. Mainly red root floaters and what I believe to be salvinia minima. They got so dense on the surface of my aquarium that I removed about 1/3 of them but I felt wasteful throwing them away so I put them in this extra tank I had laying around. My question to you guys is what should I do with them? Side note or little tip some of the plants in here is golden moneywort or creeping Jenny that I bought at Lowe’s and converting to its aquatic form which I’ve done a few tim”
“This will be long but I will leave a short list of questions at the bottom for the TLDR. I keep jumping back and forth when it comes to cutting the hornwort in my community tank. I 100% need to do so but I'm anxious for a few reasons. So in my tank is a 20 gallon long and in it I have 6 Harlequin rasboras, 6 pygmy corys, 5 peppered corys, 3 amino shrimp, 1 males betta, 1 nerite snail, and 1 horned nerite snail. There are also pest snails. The floating hornwort has been a perfect place for th”
“Hey all! I’m currently on week one of cycling this ten gallon cube tank and am looking to make a decision on what to get after the cycling process is over. It’s not shown well but I have guppy grass in the back corner and some peace lily and pothos plants above the water. I’m currently considering 8 ember tetras and a few shrimp. Maybe a singular betta, but I do like the idea of more than one fish. I also am thinking that maybe guppies would be nice as well. I’m afraid that because this is a cub”
“Ive had the wrong light on this for quite some time now so I've got a pretty healthy population of mainly cladophora algea. I really dont mind the look but it is choking out my monte carlo carpet. I just put on this hygger HG- 957 light so i can adjust the brightnessand schedule. Co2 is the diy neo kit from buce plants. Im looking into other options but this has been working pretty well. submitted by /u/Plastic-Ad-6695 [link] [comments]”
“I have a 55 gal tank with 10 african dwarf frogs (they have plenty of resting places and reach the top well), 7 long fin zebra danios, 3 pearl gouramis, and 3 nerite snails. My pH stays about 7.8 and the temp stays between 74-78. Any ideas on what else I can add? Thank you in advance :) submitted by /u/Time-Reputation2481 [link] [comments]”
“New fancy fish owner looking to incorporate hydroponics as a project. Is the water too green? We tested for ammonia/nitrate/nitrite/PH level etc all are on good levels. However, some say too green is bad but it’s all algae? My wife refuses to remove even a little bit. We also have a uv sterilizer that we used for an hour, but I’m afraid it’ll “kill” the good bacteria as we experienced almost an immediate spike in ammonia/nitrite and nitrate when we turned it on for the short duration. Any help s”
“Wanted to share my first dry start (DSM) with Monte Carlo and get some feedback on how it's going. Setup Tank: 2.5 gallon rimless Substrate: aquavitro soil Hardscape: red driftwood pieces with moss glued on, plus a small epiphyte tucked into the wood CO2: pressurized with a glass diffuser (bubble count / drop checker) Ferts: none yet Timeline Dry started for 5 weeks with the substrate kept saturated and a lid on for humidity Flooded on 9/25 Where it stands The Monte Carlo made it through the”
“I’ve had my 60L tank for about 8 months now and i’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not a fan of the plant arrangement. Any advice on how to rearrange the plants, etc? I also have some Amazon Swords and Cryptocoryne to add. submitted by /u/reme_rem [link] [comments]”

I'll admit this was my first tank and I don't think I had enough plants to help with water quality. I have a 10 gallon now and I love it. There's lots of plants and I do minimal water changes maybe once a month. Now I love my fish and am considering upsizing again, but don't want to get put back into the same 'this is too much work' situation. I think my smaller tank”
