“I got this 75 gallon marine land about a year ago new from petsmart. it’s been running that whole time. I noticed a slow leak out of seemingly the bottom. had to remove everything and thankfully had a cycled 10 gallon with plants plus a spare 5.5. hate to imagine what would’ve…”
“I’ve had this planted tank in my office for about 5 years. About 3 years ago I switched cubes and my new cube has windows, which has resulted in algae in the tank. I’ve kind of neglected the tank for the past couple years until I could bring it home. I’m finally at a spot where…”
“So I have a hugeeee phosphates problem in my tank and I’ve tried literally everything at this point and I don’t know what to do. ALSO, my plants look and are living like shit. On top of that, I often find this mold like effect that’s hard on my tanks outer regions and…”

“Bought a 75 gallon tank, fx6, fluval heater, aquaflora substrate, jumbo mopani wood, spider wood, and plants. Treated water with Prime. Ran it with bottle bacteria fritz zyme 7 and stability for over a month until proven cycled. Fx6 has one nozzle pointed against back…”
“I clean my tank weekly 20% water changes but this scum floating in globules just won’t go away, by the end of the week it’s nearly a solid film on the top. Any ideas what it is or how I can get rid of it? submitted by /u/squiddleyposs [link] [comments]”

I noticed a slow leak out of seemingly the bottom. had to remove everything and thankfully had a cycled 10 gallon with plants plus a spare 5.5. hate to imagine what would’ve happened if I was away for a week or two…. sheesh. this type of stuff makes me nervous but thankfully it didn’t explode or anything I guess. submitted by /u/AmbitionIndividual80 [link] [comments]”
“It’s a preloved tank - most of what you see came as a package except the plants. The gravel coating has been flaking for some time before I bought it 4 weeks ago. Occupants include a bristlenose who lives almost exclusively in the skull tower, 5 kuhli loaches, 3 male guppies and 3 rasbora. Wish me luck 🤣 Edit: and a multitude of ramshorn snails submitted by /u/MercuryBeach_ [link] [comments]”
“My tank has been growing a white film on the glass, I thought it was due to my new driftwood. Though I can’t help the feeling that something is off. The last few times I tested my water parameters since it started growing the nitrates have been lower than usual but I thought it was because my elodea has gotten pretty long and that my Ludwigia was finally growing. Today my snails have been pretty sleepy but occasionally they just like to nap for a week straight so I brushed it off. Then I noticed”
“I did a full water change for this tank yesterday. I completely restarted this tank because I felt that prior setup was just not optimal for long term sustainability (the wood produced a substantial amount of tannins constantly and the anubias eventually melted). The second picture is how it looked in the original set up. This time around, I went with fluval stratum aquasoil. I’m confused why the water is looking like this so quickly. It’s a 2.5 gallon Fluval Kühl. Water parameters I’m unsure of”
“The rest of the tank doesn’t look this bad, I swear! I just bought a new filter because the old one was crapping out on me. It’s done a good job cleaning up, but the gravel and pineapple are in a sad state. I swear it was a quick turn around from looking manageable to this. “So this stuff keeps growing on the glass and an internal filter, it's really difficult to scrape off. It also spreads really quickly even after a full clean of the tank it's already coming back. Does anyone know what it is or how to get rid of it? Thanks submitted by /u/MurkyStatus060 [link] [comments]”
“I had .50ppm ammonia in my tank So I did a 30% water change yesterday and vacuumed the gravel and swished around the filter sponge in the dirty water because it was so filthy. I tested my water today almost 24 hours after the change and the ammonia is higher… is it because of my city’s water messing with the test? I’m so upset should I be concerned? I added water conditioner with the water. My fish seem fine. Help 😞 idk what to do?? submitted by /u/Jennilynn81 [link] [comments”
“I've recently set a 60 litre tank up, and from the picture, you can see it's a disastrous start. I rinsed the substrate and filled in what I thought was a gentle manner. The water tells a different story. I'm new to all of this..... will this settle? Should I run the filter or leave it a couple of days? Any tips for a newbie? Thanks. submitted by /u/HereForTheInfo90 [link] [comments]”
“I’ve had this planted tank in my office for about 5 years. About 3 years ago I switched cubes and my new cube has windows, which has resulted in algae in the tank. I’ve kind of neglected the tank for the past couple years until I could bring it home. I’m finally at a spot where I can put it somewhere without direct light. Question for the group: how do I clean the algae and move the tank? Explain to me like I’m 5 description. I shouldn’t clean the gravel right? Does the crypt look healthy? I’ll”
“i’ve had this fish tank for a half a year now and it was very clear for most the time until maybe 2-3 weeks ago. i started getting that build up in my plants and i can figure out how to get rid of it or what’s wrong. i tested the water and everything shows up okay (the brightness of the light was just for the picture) i am currently setting up a 75 gallon to transfer my fishes to but i would still like to use this one for shrimp submitted by /u/lasharayy [link] [comments]”
“What is happening to my substrate? This is an old 300 liter tank that was running since 2 yrs now. Recently i moved and i took all my old substrate with me and put it back. Since a few weeks the substrate is turning brown and green on the bottom. Doesnt seem to affect my water parameters so far. submitted by /u/Timosfreshwater [link] [comments]”
“realistically speaking how bad is this, how imminently do i need to drain the tank and what do i do to fix it once it’s drained? i upgraded to this 36 gallon bow front tank in january, and just recently rescaped it in the last month- which did add quite a bit of weight with the rocks, wood, and extra substrate. i’m not really sure if it was always unbalanced like that though, my water did always slightly tilt down to the left like you can see in the full tank shot. submitted by /u/Lo”
“No matter what I do this water just wont clear up. I do weekly water changes at the same time as clean the gravel, all parameters are fine, its not a new tank (6 months old) so there should be no bacterial bloom and ive even added filter floss/wool to the HOB filter which someone suggested and after 24 hours its still the same murky colour. “Hello!! I’ve had this tank going for about a year, it had one betta fish and 2 nerite snails! I’ve just done a water change and parameters are all reading perfect, my water is a little harder than usual though. But this is new to me??? Is it dead roots or rust or??? It looks very concerning??? And it’s in both of my 10 gallons but I don’t see any in my 5 gallon???? Is this because of the fluval stratum? Is it actual rust????? “So I have a 25 gallon that's in the process of cycling, and inside one of the caves, there's a gray slime that has formed over the top of the sand. I've been using a baster to suction it up. Any idea what it might be? submitted by /u/Equivalent-Praline-3 [link] [comments]”
“I set this tank up around 2 weeks ago. There is a layer of aquarium soil under the gravel. And the large rocks are new, but the wood is re used. This is filtered and clean water and has had some prime and fertiliser in it but nothing else. There is nothing but plants in this tank. Where could this have come from or how have I dont this? Ive had fish for awhile and not had this show? submitted by /u/Hdss-Princess [link] [comments]”
“We recently moved into this house, and there is a fish tank that had clearly been neglected for a long time. When we moved in, it contained extremely murky, greyish water that appeared not to have been cleaned. The feeding area at the top was also extremely dirty, with visible mold, green growth, and what looked like biofilm or algae. Apparently, the previous tenant would feed the fish through this opening and leave food residue behind without cleaning it. When we arrived, unfortunately all the”
“So I noticed this tank was getting kind of hazy (it’s been bad for over a month but now it’s horrible). I did a gravel vac and water change and that didn’t help. I tried changing the filter and added a sponge filler and that didn’t help either. I’ve given up and I’ve taken the plants out and I’m starting to get the fish out to move them into other tanks … I’m planning on tearing down this tank and selling it. I want to try and get the water clear to make sure I’ve caught all the fish … any advic”
“I replaced a large place of driftwood in my tank and the next morning it was super cloudy and I’m assuming no oxygen because the fish were gasping at the surface and a fair amount of my shrimp died. I moved the remaining critters out into my other tanks and just figured I’d try to continue to do water changes, reduce light, and add an air stone. However over the next few days it started to stink and I’ve been doing daily/every other day 20% water changes. There is brown algae (diatoms idk) on ev”
“So I have a hugeeee phosphates problem in my tank and I’ve tried literally everything at this point and I don’t know what to do. ALSO, my plants look and are living like shit. On top of that, I often find this mold like effect that’s hard on my tanks outer regions and accessories and if there is a way to prevent it I NEED IT. “does anybody knows why does my aquarium have this white film on the glass, i just did a full water change and switched to black sand and then this happened i only added water conditioner and some blue salt tablets in it submitted by /u/Jumpy_Project5511 [link] [comments]”
“i just moved my fish tank to my apartment, and the substrate was moved around a lot during the move. I just refilled it and it now looks like this. The filter is on but I have one fish and a snail that are in a container and I’m worried about keeping them in there for too long. Is there anything I can do to help this? submitted by /u/survp [link] [comments]”

“In the past 2 days there's a sudden takeover of my driftwood and plants with this greyish dirty looking stuff. I am really worried if my tank is crashing. The driftwood used to be covered in a thin layer of beautiful green algae and plants looked healthy last week. But suddenly this greyish stringy stuff is taking over. Please help me find a cause. Specs: 15 gallons tank 3 years aged. 5 neon tetras, 3 guppies. A shrimp colony. Never had this problem before. submitted by /u/rexaid”
“This last year my tank has exploded with algae. Within a week of cleaning the rocks and walls are covered again. We’ve recently moved house and I thought the new location of the tank via the window would be better, but it hasn’t made a difference really. The tank is in the kitchen, away from the windows and no direct light. The algae is thick and stringy. I have guppies, a goby and a shrimp. Any advice or suggestions welcome!! Water tests are all fine, I do a 10%-20% water change weekly out of n”
“I keep my tank in the window. I have 5 mollies and shrimp and snails in the tank. It’s a planted tank with soil sand substrate. This is the second time the water has gone foul and created this murky nasty mess. I am at a loss because prior to this, it was in my window for a year with no issue. Now in the last month it’s gone bad twice. What is happening and how can I prevent this submitted by /u/Brenanani [link] [comments]”
