“Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. I'm a first year bee keeper from the Netherlands, and this is my first colony I that I picked up almost 5 weeks ago. It was a 3 frame nuc, and the bee keeper (who also gives the bee keepers course) told me to transfer the frames to a normal sized 10 frame box after about 1 or 2 days and start feeding right away. So far my bees have exceeded my expectations, there havent been any major pollen/nectar flows since June but after 3 weeks they finis”

I didn’t think there were enough to indicate the presence of a hive. It was only half a mile out of my way on the commute home so I swung by. The bees were gathering water that was seeping around the rocks. He’s got a broken sprinkler line, and if it cuts loose he’s going to have a flooded basement. “Edit: picture 11 I think with the queen too! Can you see any larvae? Zone 9a south texas 1st year. I think I’m seeing brood and lots of drones but the last 2 months I checked I can’t find any larvae. Nectar spills out when I lift frames. Anything else you notice I should address? I took an intro beekeeping course with a master beekeeper. I see brood (pretty sure) but no evidence of larvae on any frame. Tons of honey and pollen and the hive has doubled. No queen cells I saw. I added a second deep”

“I’m a second year beekeeper. I can go use the extractor at my local college. I have two supers on now. The bottom one has about 5 capped frames and I’d say the rest are about 70%. It’s gonna be nice the rest of the week and the bees are super busy finding more nectar. We had a weird late spring and there are a ton of flowers still blooming. The upper super is filled with uncapped nectar and getting heavier. The reason I put two on is because I was on vacation for 3 weeks. Should I wait til the l”

“First year beekeeper here. Hive inspection in mid July (Central New York) and there are several large red drops on the bottom board. Hive seems strong, two full brood boxes, honey super 80% capped, just finished treating for mites with oxalic acid vapor. Any idea what the drops might be? submitted by /u/pesatto [link] [comments]”

“Hi beekeepers! I recently won a ton of what was described as beeswax pellets at auction and melted it down last night to find it did not behave like beeswax at all. Went down a little rabbit hole and now I am questioning whether any of the beeswax products in my house are real beeswax or are cheap blends. Most of these ones here appear to have a "bloom". Would you think these would be questionable? And yes, I will be searching out a local beekeeper from now on and not thrifting/bidding”

“I did an inspection today and noticed a very high number of drones present in the hive. It was 5-15 drones per side of each frame in a 10 frame box. I also could not find the Queen, nor could I see any new eggs laid on any of the frames. The older brood was very low as well. I am in MN and it has been extremely hot for the past month pretty consistently. The bees have been bearding daily. Is this kind of thing normal? This is only my second year and they were doing well when I inspected them las”

“Hi everyone, I’m in SP, Brazil. I’ve noticed these jataí stingless bees in my yard several years ago, and finally located the entrance to what seems to be an underground hive. I don’t want to disturb them. But I do want to buy an INPA box and encourage them to move in. I would love to collect some of their honey in the future, just for home use, not selling. Any tips and guidance is appreciated. Thanks! submitted by /u/PantherDog52 [link] [comments]”

“I gave it some water+agave syrup and it seemed to be drinking from it. The last one from the video, she had her wing movement back and moved to the end of the patio onto the dirty gravel. They seem to go from sporadically active to curled and tongue coming out or fan out and then retracting. They react to the sweet water on spoon too. Idk if they have any chance of survival:'( submitted by /u/frustratedwithwork10 [link] [comments]”

“Hi everyone, sorry for the odd question. My mother-in-law lives in South America and recently got into beekeeping. She asked me to bring her two beekeeping suits when I make the trip down there in a few weeks. Where she lives is very humid, so she was going to get ventilated suits from BeBees. How possible would it be to bring two of these in my carry-on luggage? Do they compress down a lot when folded or are they still pretty bulky? I have a small suitcase and only a few other items of clothing”

“This is my second inspection on my colony (Kent UK), the bees got a bit angry so I cut it slightly shorter than I wanted to and didn’t manage to look at all the brood frames. The brood pattern looks a bit scattered and I didn’t see the queen. There was also a wax moth on my varroa board. I’m just looking for some advice as a new beekeeper - do I need to take any action on the wax moth? Do you think this looks like a strongish colony that will continue to build or do I need to take any action at”

“I caught a swarm recently and they have been struggling a bit. I had a full frame of brood get slimed by SHB and then couldn't find any eggs or larva for about a week. Before I put in a mated queen I did one more inspection and found this gal along with some larva (still no capped brood). I couldn't find any eggs. I'm going to leave them alone for a week but I'm curious if she might be a new queen. submitted by /u/BeechDude [link] [comments]”

“Someone asked me to follow up after I posted about a mystery queen. She was totally different than the other bees in my hives and had her wings chewed off. Wingless Wendy did not make it — though I don’t know for sure if they kicked her out or if she was killed by the workers or queen. A body was never found. The story is a longish one to explain but I’ll sum it up as - I created a split hive and a nuc as back up when my original hive created 12 queen cells after a treatment. Back to the nuc. So”

“I'm a first year bee keeper and my hive is thriving. They seem to be productive and we are less then a month having them and they are already filling up their 7th/8th frame! However this is our second time opening the hive up and I haven't laid eyes on our queen. I know she's there because we have fresh eggs in the comb and the population has exploded since our last check. I snapped a couple photos of our fresh comb frames and maybe by chance someone with a better eye can find her...”

“Location: Southwest Virginia, US. I’m a new beekeeper, and have my first hive from a spring wild swarm, caught by a farmer friend. I recently moved this hive onto my property successfully, they have settled and appear to be thriving (until possibly now). The hive has eight-frame boxes: one deep brood box, one full super, and a second (more recently-added) half-full super. I’ve been working with them regularly and they’ve been lovely, mellow bees. Like many across the US we have been having a hor”

“Hello I live in the south of the uk I'm really interested in beekeeping. I have started to do some research on keeping a hive in my garden... I am looking at joining my local beekeeping association, but had a few questions I was wondering if anyone on here might be able to help with? I was first researching keeping just the 1 hive, but I have heard lots of people advising that 2 is much better. I'd say that my garden is a good size, with my back neighbors having an even larger garden. Th”

“I'm a 2nd year beekeeper in Ontario, Canada. Are these drones being opened on purpose or is it the chalkbrood that is afflicting them? “Could someone help me identify if this is a queen or not? My dad is a beekeeper and thinks it is a drone but I'm unsure. I'm new to beekeeping and found it sitting alone on the side of my hive. All the other bees are acting normal and I know our original queen had a white dot and this one doesn't. It climbed on my finger and to me the butt looked pointy and is all yellow, and the eyes look different, but then it simply flew to the front of the hive and marched in and the other bees d”

“First year beekeeper in Nova Scotia just checking in with some questions 👋 We got a Nuc 6 weeks ago with 5 frames in it. We transferred the bees into the super and added additional frames on either side. They about filled the left side, so 2 additional frames but barely touched the other side, the right side of the frames in the super. Some of the frames were used before by the previous owner to fill the super and we're wondering if that might be the reason why they don't want to use it”

“TLDR: two unrelated queens. One just emerged and mated from an introduced QC, the other is purchased and clipped in April mated Carni. How is this allowed? Not even mother and daughter, which can happen occasionally as a result of supersedure. This nuc had an U of M hygenic breeding program queen cell introduced almost two weeks ago. Too soon to open, but they were too crowded. So I opened late in a day to minimize the risk of interrupting a mating flight return. I found the marked frame with th”

“Location: The Netherlands We have deployed a great network of Good4Bees traps, with provided (and diluted) attraction fluids. What we have observed is that some locations have caught a significant number of queens, while in other locations the trap and a primary nest are at a distance of less than 50 meters. This pops the question: why wasn't this queen attracted to the attraction fluid, while in other locations they are?. Is there any research available that has a biological explanation for”
