Multiple bookkeepers report recurring issues with QuickBooks Online (QBO) migrations, bank feed disconnections, and reconciliation errors. The platform's instability and support inefficiencies create significant operational friction, especially for solopreneurs and small businesses.

We just got a request from a 15-person business who has done DIY IT so far, to migrate email and a file server to 365, and get Claude connected to 365 properly. They’re not opposed to fully managed service, and the DIY IT person (who is a co-owner) doesn’t really want to do IT anymore. I can’t decide”

“[Wise] ★ 1/5 (v9.103) — For sure not for business account. Good for personal use maybe, but horrible for business accounts. They are not staffed or prepared to handle business accounts. Avoid ! They can lock your account and deny you access or even a statement for no reason! They will not call you and you will never be able to speak to a person. They will basically confiscate your money ! They are also horrible at transfers ! Even 3rd party transfers take 3 to 4 days. Forget about the digital b”

““Quit before they go bankrupt” yep. I mean not actually but yeah not adopting this is a huge red flag. I’m self employed but if I worked for a corp I would be diving into this on my off time, banking on the fact that it will add value now and especially when the rest of the org wakes up. I find in general this sub paints AI in accounting with a bad brush. And TBH it’s not great at all lot of high context things (AR, AP, any sort of accurate bookkeeping, etc) but it is unmatched when it comes to”

“I'm looking for a real world problem to work on as an independent/freelance project, and I'd rather build something that a startup actually needs rather than coming up with another random SaaS idea. If you're running a startup, I'd like to hear about the things that annoy you, cost you too much money, or take too much manual effort. It could be anything and doesn't have to be technical. Something like: A SaaS tool you’re paying $500/month for that feels ridiculously expensive”

Yeah, then no. Either move to Ledger or Essentials. Solopreneur is trash.

“I have only one client on solopreneur. I hate it, but love the client. We basically work collaboratively once a quarter (either through a video call or in person) to clean everything up and check it all off. Simple Start would honestly be too much for this particular client, so we make it work. I would not recommend Solopreneur to anyone, though.”

r/Bookkeeping

“I've tried making Solopreneur work, but the extra workarounds usually end up costing more time than the upgrade. For a client with ongoing bookkeeping needs, I'd rather have a cleaner workflow in Simple Start than fight the limitations every month.”

r/Bookkeeping

“the 'pay me extra to work around the limits' framing is exactly right. we run into this on the internal side too, where the tool a vendor or client is using just doesn't produce clean enoug data for us to work with efficiently, and someone ends up eating that time. pushing them to upgrade is the right call. the workaround tax compounds.”

r/Bookkeeping

“i wouldn't try to make solopreneur work unless the client is tiny and you're basically doing cleanup with them on a call it's fine for someone who wants a lightweight personal-business tracker, but the moment a bookkeeper needs clean workflows, rules, reporting, review notes, etc, it starts costing more time than the subscription saves Simple Start or Ledger is a much easier conversation. i usually frame it as: you can save a few dollars on softwar”

r/Bookkeeping

“I’d never seen it before today. Clicked around in it for 15 minutes and came away completely perplexed. Like, who is this for? Clients who want to trash their books beyond the point of no return?”

r/Bookkeeping

“I suggested Simple Start and he upgraded. I’ve decided that I’ll only transition clients away from Solopreneur. If the client is so tiny that Solopreneur is theoretically an option, it probably also means I can’t afford to be inefficient when working on that client.”

r/Bookkeeping

“I wouldn’t try too hard to make Solopreneur work for an ongoing bookkeeping client. For me the question would be: Can I reconcile cleanly? Can I get the reports I need? Can I review/correct transactions efficiently? Can I document what was done? Can I avoid weird manual workarounds every month? If the answer is no, then the “cheap” plan is not actually cheap. I’d frame it to the client”

r/Bookkeeping

“I only transition clients away from QBO Solopreneur and QBO Self-Employed, they either agree to go to Ledger or Simple Start or higher or we can't work together. Ledger is GOAT.”

r/Bookkeeping

“I haven't used Shuttle specifically, but I'd look closely at how it handles payment matching and reconciliation before switching. In my experience, the payment link part is easy, the real test is whether the books stay clean without a bunch of manual fixes later. How much Stripe volume is the client processing each month?”

r/Bookkeeping

“I haven’t used Shuttle specifically, but I’d test it with a few real invoices before fully switching. The payment link part is usually the easy part. The real question is whether QBO stays clean afterward. I’d test: - Does the Stripe payment apply to the correct QBO invoice? - How are Stripe fees recorded? - Does it handle partial payments? - What happens with refunds/chargebacks? - Does the Stripe payout match cl”

“I've seen this happen even when other accounts under the same login keep syncing normally. I'd try reconnecting just the checking account first. If that doesn't work, it's often a bank-feed issue between BofA and QBO rather than anything you're doing wrong.”

r/Bookkeeping

“I’d try a clean reconnect, not just refresh. Steps I’d take: Note the last transaction date already imported Disconnect only the BofA checking feed in QBO Make sure existing transactions stay in the register Reconnect BofA fresh, ideally with the client on screenshare for login/2FA Map it back to the same checking account Choose the start date carefully to avoid duplicates Since the c”

r/Bookkeeping

“The checking and credit card feeds running on different connection paths at BofA is a solid observation. I'd try fully disconnecting the checking account from QBO, then reconnecting it fresh with a complete re-authorization rather than just refreshing the existing link. Sometimes QBO holds onto a corrupted token even when the card feed works fine. If that doesn't stick, you might need to escalate it to BofA directly since the issue is persistent on their end.”

r/Bookkeeping

“You can usually reset it yourself in QBO. Disconnect just that checking feed, make sure the existing transactions stay in the account, then reconnect BofA fresh and map it back to the same checking account. If QBO will not clear the old connection or it breaks again right after reconnecting, that's when I'd contact Intuit.”

r/Bookkeeping

“Thank you! I will try that. Can I reset the feed myself or do I need to contact Intuit?”

r/Bookkeeping

“For BofA checking in QBO, I'd look at the connection token and account-level aggregation first, not 2FA, especially since the card feed stays connected. Checking accounts can sit on a different BofA connection path than cards, so reconnecting under the same bank login often keeps breaking unless the feed is reset cleanly on the QBO side.”

r/Bookkeeping

“Yikes that’s insane. I tried to get my clients to move but they don’t live in the US and now can’t open one anywhere.”

r/Bookkeeping

“True, I've always had so many issues with Bank of America AND US Bank when it comes to QB. Always disconnecting, one client it disconnects every day. UGh”

r/Bookkeeping

“Really? I have found the opposite to be true. The bigger banks, like BofA and Wells Fargo, seem to work best with QBO. It's the smaller banks where we usually resort to importing transactions. I've never seen this issue with BofA before, but maybe I've just been lucky so far. Thanks for your feedback!”

r/Bookkeeping

“BOA is no bueno when it comes to QB. Always has issues like this where other banks do not.”

r/Bookkeeping

“Yeah, I use this as a workaround when it's easier to get banking credentials from the client than it is to bother them with constant 2FA requests.”

r/Bookkeeping

“So bank feeds can always be unreliable, and I don't think there is really anything you can do on your end to fix that. The best bet like you said is to have access to the client's bank account and fetch the statement that way. But this isn't so easy, so I've actually been working on solving this exact situation that makes it very easy for the client to send their statements. Let me know if you'd like to learn more about it.”

r/Bookkeeping

“The supervisor I had briefly set this whole thing up. He's more ancient than i am, and came to the company and IMO fucked it all up. Applied rules, not knowing fully what was going on. Not sure why they hired him to begin with. I started soon after under him but his health took a bad turn and he's effectively left the company. I've been disabling much of his rules and feeds, as i prefer to import when I'm ready to. I'm doing 3 companies of this owner. I'm glad t”

r/Bookkeeping

“Yeah, I understand the frustration. The problem is that I don't have direct access to the client's bank account, so getting the bank feed to work would make life a whole lot easier for me. If you're getting duplicate transactions, I wonder if that's with your credit card accounts and if you have connected both the parent and child accounts instead of just the parent or just the child accounts. I connect the child accounts and leave the parent disconnecte”

r/Bookkeeping

“The manual import route works if you're comfortable with it, but for this specific issue I'd still push the reconnection first since the credit card feed proves the connection itself is stable.”

r/Bookkeeping

“I hate the feeds tbh. Reason is ours keeps tripling the data. I spend more time deleting entries. The place I'm working is having their own issues but it's with the bank. You can just download the data easier IMO using excel and importing it into QBO sorry about your issue. I'm not a fan of QBO.”

r/Bookkeeping

“Man that migration sounds like a complete nightmare. The fact they're hanging up on you after creating all these reconciliation issues is just wild - like they break your books then act like you're the problem I'd probably start looking at alternatives at this point, two hours for migration plus all these backend issues sounds like their system just can't handle the load properly”

r/Bookkeeping

“I’d be furious too. Being on hold for hours is bad enough, but having a migration alter accounts and leave the books out of balance is a much bigger issue. If it were me, I’d document everything, case numbers, call times, screenshots, and keep pushing through escalation. Support delays are one thing, but data integrity problems after a migration are another. Have you gotten anyone from the migration team involved yet?”

r/Bookkeeping

“Migration discrepancies after a QBDT-to-QBO conversion are unfortunately common, especially around AR aging and account mapping. The conversion engine tends to flatten some of the nuance in your chart of accounts and drop that "reconciliation discrepancy" offset in as a catch-all instead of properly mapping historical cleared transactions. Your $1,000 variance is almost certainly sitting in that discrepancy account or in opening balance equity, so pulling a comp”

r/Bookkeeping

“I'd be frustrated too. The hardest part isn't even the software issue, it's explaining to clients why numbers changed after a migration that was supposed to be straightforward. Before switching, I'd document every discrepancy and push for escalation with specific examples. In my experience, migration-related issues sometimes need a higher-tier support team than the front-line reps.”

r/Bookkeeping

“i’d stop trying to get a “fix” from first-line support and treat this like a migration cleanup project now. first thing i’d do is export the pre-migration TB, AR aging, AP aging, open invoices/bills, and reconciliation reports as pdfs/csvs. then compare post-migration account by account and write down every forced mapping QBO made. if the discrepancy account exists, don’t just journal it away. make them identify the source transaction type. if they”

r/Bookkeeping

“I regret this. We had years worth of transactions that we still refer back to from time to time. Otherwise I would’ve just done a trial balance transfer. So beyond pissed”

r/Bookkeeping

“I have learned to never use their migration process. Download all reports from the old system including general ledgers, open a new QBO file and JE the trial balance in. Even though it's still a decent chunk of work, it's 100x better than dealing with their migration tools.”
