“Thats not what I said at all. I never said not to call CPS. I'm not going to engage in an argument with you. My point was that just because CPS may be involved doesn't mean that the situation will get better. In fact, sometimes the abuse gets much worse after a visit (shocking…”

“I’m assuming you work in the UK. I’m in the US. Child protective services typically wouldn’t take this call with the information presented. I know because I’ve made calls like this earlier in my career. I have many students with hygiene issues that have nothing to do with neglect. For example, students who have autism and have sensory issues with showering. I want to be clear that I’m NOT saying there isn’t neglect but instead that the school social worker should meet with the student to gather”

“Cps always made my avuse worse and they always called ahead to prepare my mother so I highly recommend NOT calling CPS. Instead, collect evidence yourself and take it to court”
“What are your thoughts, as social workers and social work professions, on this case? To be transparent I firmly believe this was a criminal act. Yes, the system failed those kids and even the parents but this is still a criminal act and some are arguing it is not criminal. If you’re unaware: please search Ohio 16 kids or Siders Family. It is a very heartbreaking story. submitted by /u/Chemical-Top-3275 [link] [comments]”
“No one asked, but figured I’d drop a short update here to my post from last week. TLDR: someone called cps on my kids (7,7,6) being unattended outside in my own back yard. CPS worker showed up today. Verified my kids are well fed and safe. Saw where our playscape was(in clear view of the doorwall) told us she was going to close this as unfounded asap. And then read the entire complaint…. And now I’m more angry. CPS advised us to file a harassment reported for law enforcement. The very long anony”
“CPS. Kids like this happen from abuse (neglect is abuse OP). The kid needs serious intervention from child protective services, the kid needs mental help and a healthy environment.”
“Tonight's news out of Michigan really has this question sitting heavy on my heart. We have two children who were medically and physically neglected and one died, and it sounds like CPS never visited their house. On the other hand, we have twins removed from the care of their dad for 24 hours and forced to go through CPS interviews over a clearly political swatting episode that was easily verifiable as false. “Im a summer camp counselor, but the same parameters and whatnot apply for CPS reports for us as they do for you guys so I’m here to ask about a report I don’t know of I should submit. Here’s the full rundown so you understand Child had no lunch days in a row then when he did bring a lunch he ate it all upon arrival at camp as if he didn’t get breakfast Childs legs are covered in what I *THINK* to be bed bug bites. The child is dark skinned and I’m white, so I honestly just thought it was how ecz”
“Im not sure whats worse after calling cps as a mandatory reporter. Waiting to see if the child will be removed from the home, or realizing that they won't. It's all very stressful”
“🤷🏻♂️ Lying to preserve a child’s safety in a potential crisis, I don’t think it’s entirely unethical. The obligation is to the child, rather than transparency to a potential abuser.”
“I encountered this in the field. Repeated calls to an address. The family could not have been more of a Norman Rockwell painting knockoff. The injuries just didn't add up and I put a report in. CPS got involved and the kids ended up reporting that they were being beaten daily by their dad, that mom knew and did nothing to stop it. I remember clear as day being at the ER talking to the nurse about how I had a bad feeling, and she said something to the eff”
“Evidence of the harms of CPS are not anecdotal. It's well documented and studied extensively. Look up Dorothy Roberts a scholar at UPenn who writes about the damage the child welfare system does in poor communities.”
“Mandated reporting is literally "You see something, you say something." the rest is on CPS. Abuse comes in many forms and it's always better to wrong than miss a child who's actively being harmed.”
“Children of color were specifically what I was thinking of, particularly those who are stolen from Latino/indigenous and black people and given away to abusive white people who look good on paper. This is very well documented but people with intrisic bias (to put it diplomatically) don't want to look for it. If the coward downvoting wants I can provide the references for children murdered by foster parents, and even adoptive parents, after they were stol”
“Idk why you’re being downvoted. What you’re saying is 100% true and don’t even get me started on the poor outcomes for kids of color when calling CPS.”
“The problem is that CPS and the foster system are in many cases more likely to kill a kid than the parents in grey cases. The child protective system in this country sucks. The CPS workers are low level bureaucrats without enough education or training and too many cases, the foster system is a clusterfuck of abusive grifters, the courts are overwhelmed and staffed by idiots, everyone involved is racist and biased as fuck, etc. A misreported case c”
“My 3 year old still has a healing bruise on her ear when she was trying to be silly and tried to run out of her bedroom as I pushed the door closed and I couldn’t stop it in time. She bumped into the door and it pushed her into the corner of the wall (she shares a wall with the bathroom so there’s a random corner right by the door). I’m not sure which impact caused the bruising I’m soooo nervous that people are going to think she’s abused because it looks like s”
