“My 3-year-old Maltipoo is usually attached to my husband and me. He spends all day and evening cuddling with us on the couch, but ever since the fireworks last week, he’s been acting completely different. As soon as it starts getting dark, he runs upstairs to our bedroom, hides…”

“Yesterday I started to attempt to do dog park exposure with my 20w old cavoodle. At puppy school she barks at other dogs, then when they are close up (on leash) she backs away/pinned ears, low tail. I did the research on how to start…”
“I have a terrier who loves to run and sniff. I also have access to several acres of private property on a somewhat regular basis and when he was a puppy we used to walk it off leash and he had the best time running around being a dog. I worked on his recall diligently, and he was very successful right up until adolescence. At adolescence his love for chasing smells became more valuable than his recall, and after failing his recall on two different days, he's been back on leash/long line 100%”
“So my dog is 4 and has always been a little much during walks, I’ve tried so many training techniques over the years. Well my dogs obsessed with his laser pointer so today we took it with us. It was the most calm walk we’ve ever had. Cat passing by? I just used the laser. Dog barking? Laser. Dog passing by? Laser. He was so focused on the laser that he didn’t even care about everything else. It even got him to not pull. Because he knew I had his laser so he walked next to me the whole time. ”
“Not sure if this is the right flair but I have a 5 month old Maltese and I’ve had him for a month. He is potty trained to use his turf on the patio and ring his bell to go out. Now that he’s had all his shots we’re working on using the grass right in front of the apartment door rather than the patio turf. However, he’s very wary of the outside world. I realized pretty quickly we needed to work on just being comfortable in the world before potty training out in the front. Every time we step foot”
“My neighbors have 3 dogs and I have 2. There are no issues between me and my neighbors and all of our dogs are generally well behaved. They aren't perfect, but no problematic behaviors. However, on of my dogs and one of their dogs have gotten almost obsessively fence reactive when they are both out in our respective back yards. A 6 ft tall privacy fence separates our yards. When I let my dogs out 2 things generally happen if the neighbor's are out as well 1.) the neighbor dog hears my do”
“I read the guide but didn’t see anything quite like this. I have a two year old Havanese. He’s a really good dog with one big exception - loud noises really set him off. Thunder, fireworks, doorbell, etc. I totally understand the concept of desensitizing, but I can’t recreate the Thunder or fireworks. It’s really awful when everyone is sleeping and a clap of thunder causes total chaos. we have a 5 month old puppy and it scares him to death! Please help me out. I need to know what to do when he s”
“I have a 1-year-old, 30-lb Bernedoodle who is extremely energetic and excitable. I’ve been working with a professional trainer and using a prong collar as part of his training, and he’s made a ton of progress. Today I was training him outside the fence of a dog park, specifically so he could practice staying calm around dogs without directly interacting with unfamiliar dogs. A few dogs came close to the fence and he got really excited, so I gave him a few corrections with the prong collar. A wom”
“I have a fear reactive 3 year old dog who is terrified of the neighbors dog. Whenever my pup goes out to potty, there is 1 exit out of my apartment building. The neighbor dog hears her walking and growls/ barks at her aggressively from the balcony. This causes my dog to scream and pull home. It’s awful, it’s loud, and I struggle to calm her down in those moments. We are working with a trainer + vet behaviorist before anyone suggests that - it’s just that the trainers suggestions haven’t helped u”
“mini poodle 6 months old for context. i'm not sure how to approach it properly. i don't have a hard deadline or anything but i would like the conveniency of being able to leave him home alone for at least a couple hours. submitted by /u/ArcherSparks [link] [comments]”
“Ok so let me preface this by saying I am more familiar with the Dogtra 280c for my previous dog and it was used for shortcuts (admittedly because of my impatience.) it was used more for negative punishment rather than actual training. I've done my self-healing and inward looking and do not want to train like that anymore. Now onto my question.. So with my new puppy, I'm taking my time and doing my research. She's near 20wks old and just starting on the micro educator. Inside the hous”
“Hi! I was wondering what everyone's experience with a two dog e-collar system is and which they prefer. Dogtra or E-collar technologies? Or maybe something different like Garmin, etc. I used a cheap Amazon e-collar for recall and it was great until it wasn't. It had a switch between the two dogs but it eventually stopped switching on the first toggle. This is why I'm hesitant to get the dogtra as most look like it's a switch between the dogs(obviously I'm sure it's much h”
“I’m working on reconditioning the ecollar after not using it for awhile. I’ve seen recommendations to do it through recall, but my dog is like Velcro, and I struggle to get her to ignore me long enough to create leash pressure to pair for conditioning without waiting several minutes between reps. I’ve been trying to teach by sit/down pressure but I need some more variation. She doesn’t understand how to turn off the pressure and that’s what I’m trying to teach her. What are the best ways to do t”
“Help. My 9 month old Pitt/staffy/cane Corso/lab/am bulldog/Catahoula who we’ve had since 3 months old is getting gradually more and more afraid of the garbage truck. We’ve tried: Ignoring her Distracting her Some exposure She freaks out so much if she’s out the back and the truck goes past. Even if we are playing fetch or tug which are her 2 favourite games. She goes full ears pinned back runs inside and hides in a corner. What else can we try?? Or do we have to get through the fear period first”
“I live in a city in an apartment complex and we have a dog run out back as well as a walkable area. My dog is 4 and has recently become very anxious with fireworks, thunderstorms, and noise from the overpass near our building. As soon as we get out the door, she lays on the floor and refuses to go any further. She weighs 60 pounds so it’s not like I can pick her up. I know dogs go through fear regressions (I had another dog go through something similar around this age), but I’m not sure what to”
“My dog goes under bed when scared. Sound of golf club hitting ball, gas oven, fireworks and thunderstorms plus more. Excess drooling recently with fireworks soaked the carpet where he lays under bed. My bedroom smells so bad. Moved bed, vacuumed, shampooed twice. Home maid cleaner with Mr clean and Dawn. Dried. Sprinkled with baking soda. Still smells so bad. Any ideas? submitted by /u/KetoLizzy [link] [comments]”
“Hello, I've had a dog for nearly 12 years and I am desperate need of help. I will be quick to describe my situation. My dog Jake gets very anxious whenever there's rain or fireworks. His anxiety manifests in heavy panting and extreme uneasiness, he will literally break doors, climb onto chairs, get on top of beds and scratch and bite the walls. Thankfully he does not get aggressive, but he tends to hurt people in the middle of his anxiety fits. In the comments I will post all that we'”
“A friend of mine with a pup just a few months older than mine recommenced one of those ultrasound dog trainers. When the dog needs to be corrected, press the button and an sound that dogs hear that humans don't goes off. The dog reacts by dropping whatever it's doing and freezes for a few seconds, distracted by the sound. Is this considered cruel? submitted by /u/bevissimo [link] [comments]”
“my dog is about a year and a half old and is so sweet and goofy but i want to be able to take him out with out having to be anxious the whole time. in regards to dogs, he loves them and typically gets along really well with most dogs and has been able to still listen and disengage when more aggresive dogs have a go at him. however, he loves dogs that he wants to meet and play with them all and will get excited and worked up whenever he sees another dog. i have started training with just having h”
“My dog has always hated storms and fireworks. We work with her to have a safe set up, she had meds from the vet to take when she is incredibly nervous and stressed which is good, but since July 2nd every day has been either thunder or fireworks, or both. She is so nervous during storms she hides under the bed. I want to help her so badly. Should she be taking meds daily? Do thunder jackets work? Please any advice helps thank you in advance submitted by /u/vinylveins [link] [com”
“Hi! just got an Australian shepherd mix (unknown what hes mixed with) whenever I put his collar and leash on to go outside he freaks out and starts jumping, whining, and biting at the leash. Any suggestions on how to desensitize and get him to like using the leash? Also any other suggestions for his bread in other areas of training would also be much appreciated!! edit: (hes about 10 weeks old) submitted by /u/Electrical-Buy-4897 [link] [comments]”

“we are using a mini educator. my dog knows recall on a long line. i am doing this myself without a trainer so 100% want to make sure i am conditioning and doing this properly and following all steps! is there any guides or websites for specifically a mini educator? submitted by /u/Ok-Bee2928 [link] [comments]”
“My 2 year old dog has always been okay with fireworks. We introduced them from a distance and he notices the noise and is fine with it. However this year we had some new “lovely” neighbors. They shot off a massive firework that basically exploded in our backyard. Extremely illegal in our area but people are going to people. My dog is terrified. I’ve never seen him this scared of anything, and he’s had trouble calming down even after they stopped. Shaking and panting. I don’t know what to do for”
“4th of July is here and this year brings both fireworks and thunder, both of which scare the fuzz off my dog. I have him wrapped up in a blanket and am sitting with him, he won't drink or eat treats. Is there anything else I can do for him? I'm just petting and hugging him while he shakes and pants. submitted by /u/12345_abc_ [link] [comments]”
“Everyone was so helpful with my question yesterday about my new baby who was stuck upstairs, so I thought I’d ask another question here. My new dog pulls a lot on a leash and doesn’t know that many commands from being moved from the shelter to foster home to the shelter and back to a foster home. I helped train the family dog when I was younger, but I only did an okay job. This is my first time doing training courses for a dog. I want to set him up for success! submitted by /u/Basils”
“Underground parking garages! If you live in a city, give your scardy dog a fun, tiring day while the sun is up, then go for a quick drive underground to wait out the noises. I’d highly recommend parking near the fan and setting up a WiFi camera for peace of mind if you’re going to go watch the fireworks yourself, but the risk is very low considering underground parking garages don’t overheat even if it’s hot out and have good airflow. One of my dogs is terrified of fireworks and nothing has help”

“Im venting here... but it has to go somewhere. I run puppy classes and I am amazed and burned out from the numbers of first time dog owners, or just average people who have kids, a fulltime job and normal lives, choosing to buy a puppy that was designed to work. It is common for issues show up before 6 months and a huge amount of my time is spent explaining the genetics of a working cocker, or working line retriever and how to direct them into a retrieve while they are young and why! I have owne”
“Hi all. I’m looking to do some snake aversion training with my GSP, snakes are currently in hibernation atm and I want to get this done before spring (I’m in Australia btw). In my state e collars are banned so I’m looking for alternatives. Does anyone know of any or should I make the weekend trip to another state? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/PG_homestead [link] [comments]”
“hey so i’ve been working with dogs for a few years now, done mostly work at daycare and boarding facilities as well as some time as a dog trainer assistant. I’ve realized that working with dogs is my passion and i want to go to school and get certified as a licensed dog trainer. i was just wondering if anyone had any advice on which schools or programs would be the best for someone who wants to learn a more balanced approach, based on the four quadrants of operant conditioning. so far most of th”
“We’ve been using the sport dog E collars around our farm for several years now. We have a country house and there is plenty of yard for them to run and play all day long, we just have a buried fence as a barrier separating the yard so they don’t wander off or get into the cows/chickens/pigs. The fence is buried and our dogs (Blue Heeler & Staffy mix) know not to go past it or they’ll get buzzed. It’s mainly to keep them safe as we’ve had wanderers before. Lately the fence and its barrier sys”
“I grew up living in a professional dog training school in Birmingham Alabama and I'm curious how others go about potty training. My formula (learn more) consists of regulating a dog's food and water intake to regulate their system and take them outside right after they eat and/or drink to go bathroom. The moment they get done peeing or pooping I then give them lots of pets and verbal praise which usually excites them and motivates them to go outside on the next bathroom break. When they”
“She still uses the grass the majority of the time but every couple days there's a new landmine or two in the driveway for someone to run over. She's 6 years old, has always had free reign of the property including about half an acre of grass to do her business. Was leash trained in the grass as a pup and has been great up until about a month or so ago. When I confront her with the mess on the gravel, she knows it's bad, but continues to do it. The only difference is I have an area of”
“I have a 14 month old australian shepherd and she has recently started demand barking bad. she will just bark at me when im making something in the kitchen or even just sitting on the couch quietly. she also alert barks, but she is good at stopping this when i say "enough" when she demand barks, unfortunately when i get up to try to stop her or give her some sort of reaction (negative or not), she runs away thinking we are playing. i've been trying to ignore for a couple weeks now”
“We did desensitization to the noise being played on a phone when he was a tiny puppy. I have a "dog tv" youtube video he listens to when it's time to relax. Today was the biggest firework show of the year near our house. We watch it from the living room window. Lucky started barking at them immediately but was quickly distracted by peanut butter, I put on his youtube video and he realized it was nothing to worry about and spent the rest of the time chewing his bone on the couch lik”
“My dog is terrified of fireworks, as a lot of dogs are. My vet gave me stuff for the 4th but I keep wondering if I should also do the 3rd as well. Many people have a 3 day weekend and I get the feeling fireworks will be starting Friday night. Am I crazy for medicating her both days? Or should I just do the 4th? How does everyone else feel? Edit: thanks for making me feel sane about being worried. I'm going to make sure shes comfortable starting tomorrow since I did end up hearing fireworks t”
