“How do I wire belimo vents to 2 diesel generators with relays so the vents open when either generator turns on. We were told to use the neutral on the relays. I believe our power is only supposed to supply the vents so they close when the generators turn off(relays open them )…”

“So I'll be honest. It took me way too long to realize how useful the LoZ setting could be on a meter when it comes to troubleshooting. For the beginning of my career, I used a Fluke 323(I think that's the right number) that doesn't have the option for LoZ. It got me wondering if…”

Electricians are expressing frustration with tool quality (Klein screwdrivers breaking), difficulty understanding electrical codes and installations (Belimo vents, multimeter selection, plate identification), and concerns about job market conditions in Iowa. Many posts indicate a need for guidance on specific technical challenges.

“I wonder, for some context I have been working as an electrician for 4 years and I have worked in both residential and commercial in the US. I previously asked about what brands you guys liked and used the most between Klein tools and Milwaukee and I took your advice and I am about to get a lineman's pliers, water pump pliers, diagonal cutter from Knipex but I am only missing the screws drivers. I know I could get a set of Knipex screw drivers but I would like to see if there're any more”

“Store closed and I didn’t realize I grabbed the wrong capacitor until I got home. I’m a sparky, so I do have basic understanding of this stuff but thought I’d ask. submitted by /u/Flaky-Mode [link] [comments]”

“Curious what kind of physical exam it’d be for someone doing electrical? My experience is electrician. So residential, commercial. New job i got hired on required a physical and UA. Curious what the physical involves? I heard hearing test is included. Worried cause I’ve failed all my hearing test from Elementary to High school. I’m in my mid twenties but i feel like my hearing is ehh. Do they do UA and then exam or exam and then UA? TIA. Edit to add. High blood pressure was also something i got”

“Hi guys I’m a lic electrician just been retired for about 10 years I was in the process of upgrading my 100 amp to a duel meter 400amp 200 for the main house and 125amp for the ADU I’m putting in. Heres my question I've done hundreds of service changes and I always cut the wires coming from the main pole and then just kerneyed them back onto my new feeder wires. I'm reading online that that's no longer the common procedure and that you're not allowed to do this. I'm just tryi”

“I’ve been getting ads for the pokit tools and I’m interested in the pokit clamp specifically. I work as an industrial electricians and use my t5-1000 for most troubleshooting. The pokit clamp meter seems like a safer choice to put the clamp on, close the bucket, and power on to get a reading. But I was wondering if anyone has any experience using the tool and if it is reliable. submitted by /u/FamiliarAd4410 [link] [comments]”

“I used to work as in the maintenance dept as a technician. I would run up to 480v drops to troubleshooting the dinky DC equipment. So I am experienced with my meter. My T5-1000 is slowly going bad. My speaker is already gone. I am no longer in maintenance, and have a Fluke 117 with a master accessory kit. It is a great meter that takes up alot of space in my tiny Kennedy toolbox. I am looking to downsize. I mainly need to test ac/dc voltage and continuity. I love the T5 but and was thinking abou”

“Fiancé and I are considering moving to Iowa for several reasons. Trying to get a good idea on the job market out there; average hourly, benefits, what schooling looks like, how quickly people are getting hired, etc. I’m a second year apprentice. submitted by /u/Typical_Cattle3814 [link] [comments]”

“Absolutely brand new out of the package still has the oil all over it. Turned a regular Phillips screw to tighten the handle door on my oven and poof gone immediately. Why can’t I just buy a decent long neck screwdriver, I don’t need much just something with 4 bits two hex heads and a long neck….. submitted by /u/Elegant_Ad_1504 [link] [comments]”

“Ive never seen a plate like this. The threaded bolt sticking down rotates with the smaller plate at the end. It comes assembled with the split washer, jam nut, and allthread coupling. We have thousands of them from some old site and we're about to scrap them. No mounting holes, no adicional piece. The "part number" gets me nowhere. submitted by /u/Alt_dimension_visitr [link] [comments]”

“Yeah, I bought their "impact rated" 11 in 1. Broke the flat tip loosening a screw, by hand. Not to mention, the rubber on the handle is loose, almost since I took it out of the package. I've started buying Knipex now. Haven't moved on to replacing the rest of my screwdrivers yet, but when they do break, I think it's time to move on. Sad to see a tried and true brand move manufacturing overseas and slowly die. I'm not even sure their US stuff is very good anymore either.”

“Have you tried the wiha 6in1? It's also has a version that comes with a reamer. I honestly only use the reamer part and use a wera multibit screwdriver as a daily. I've given up on having built in nut drivers after Klein ruined the 11in1.”

“I swear by a Canadian manufacturer of hand tools for marine use called Picquic for stuff like this. The Picquic Mariner is the bee’s knees as far as longevity, and it’s rust and corrosion resistant, being made to withstand salty, wet environments, which means it can withstand wet environments on job sites just fine.”

“I hope someone gives an alternative because the extended bits often a go to for me but Kliens quality has really dropped”

r/electricians

“Please send me the link to a long neck 6 in 1 I’d gladly buy it I’ve switched all my hand tools to knipex and wiha this is the only Klein product I really dabble with”

r/electricians

“my old Klein tools are this durable anything I have brought in the last year and a half from Klein has been shitty at best”

r/electricians

“Klein been slipping hard since they moved production, I swear the old ones you could use like a chisel and they still hold up.”

r/electricians

“Supply house guy here. Most Klein dealers now have to pile all defective Klein products somewhere and await for approval for a return goods authorization. Most of times I replaced or refunded the tool and if Klein wouldnt give us a replacement we would just eat the loss. I now sell Wiha and Knipex. Much easier warranty procedures”

r/electricians

“That’s wild. I tried to do that at the Lowe’s nearest my house and they told me I had to go through Klein. I stopped buying Klein after enough stuff broke within a few weeks/months and I don’t really shop at Lowe’s unless I’m in a pinch.”

r/electricians

“If you bought it at Lowe’s, you can return it with your receipt and get an immediate replacement or even get your money back and buy a different brand if you want”

r/electricians

“This deserves more upvotes I want a tshirt of this to wear when the Klein rep comes in for counter days.”

r/electricians

“I wish i still had my tools I started with. Shit gets stolen, or I leave it behind to never to return.”

r/electricians

“I bought most of mine when I got into the trade in 2008, and I still have and use all of them. But everything of theirs I’ve bought in the last 5 years I’ve had at least two of for the same reason”

r/electricians

“It's a sad state of affairs. Klein used to be THE tool of choice. They're just not reliable anymore.”

r/electricians

“We’re looking at Fort Dodge, I’m currently at a non-union company that does a mix of new build commercial and resi/commercial service, but I’m primarily service.”

r/electricians

“Where in Iowa? Some places are hotter than others. Union or Non-union? Residential or commercial?”
