“There's a thread discussing how everyone was informed of their layoff, and jesus, some of those stories are heartless and ice cold. While I understand why (for ass covering reasons), what has me wondering is - how would you have liked to have been informed?* Personally? I'd have…”
“When I've been let go from contracts, no matter what's happening in my life, I'm supposed to be grateful and understanding. It's just business. When I leave a job, even when I give notice and offer to support the transition, it's like the worst betrayal ever. You really can't…”
“+1, it's such a relief to have people like this. [re: Sr. Front End Developer that just got laid off for the first time. How bad is it?]”
Several users express negative sentiment toward their employers, citing abrupt terminations and a lack of transparency. One user was told they were being terminated during what they believed would be a discussion about a raise.

“Yall got too much faith in corporations. Throughout your employment history can you recall any point that the company wasn't completely inept at handling basic shit? Why everyone seems to think these background checks are done by James Bond level spy agencies I'll never know lol. [re: Am I fucked for background check?]”
“I got rewarded just fine. Read my post again, when I was laid off many many years ago and making less than 1/2 what I make now I shrugged when I was laid off. I must have hit a nerve with people like you white knighting like this. [re: Netflix Layoff Sob Stories]”
“Sharing from LinkedIn: I’ve seen a number of takes about how being laid off should not be a hit to your ego, that it's not an indictment of you as a person. This... confuses me. Not because it's false, but because it seems to be starting the wrong conversation. Whenever I've been laid off, I haven't felt depressed. I didn't feel like I was inadequate or a failure. What I felt, was mad. I was furious with the company doing the layoffs. I felt betrayed. Employment is an agreeme”
“Then just reduce these automatic pleasantries to: "Thank you for the opportunities and look forward to network with you in the future. Goodbye" In the end, they are the ones losing an employee, and they are the ones putting you in a horrible situation.”

While I understand why (for ass covering reasons), what has me wondering is - how would you have liked to have been informed?* Personally? I'd have liked to been told straight off the bat and the real reason as to why. I was laid off because it's cheaper to have my job elsewhere. “I'm still in shock really. I work in wireless. They laid off 30% of the team on one big call. We all had to pack up our desks and not one of my team members said anything to me (except the one who was getting laid off with me). They all pretended to be so busy working when it was obvious something was going on. The last time I got laid off was in August 2023 and it took me six months to find a job. Is the market worse than it was then? I'm worried. submitted by /u/ShitFaced_D”
“I'll break it down in sequences so it's not just a lump sum or paragraphs that don't make sense. Performance before issues I had November 2025: Performance review which was meets expectations. Received a raise beginning of 2026. I had no attendance issues prior to late January 2026. I also had no mention of any major call handling problems during that time. This is the basis of it and I will go into more detail below. Corrective Action - Mid January 2026 The CA said it was for call h”

“I am more likely than not to have another on 10/8. Someone on the Layoff let us know over a month ago that 70% of our company is being laid off and the jobs are moving to India. I had a feeling already for months due to the fact they sold off multiple segments of the business last year and this year. I've already started looking.”
“I got 6k raised then in a week was laid off. Enjoy unemployment but don't enjoy it to much.”
