“I recently turned 26 and have been mapping out my long-term strategy. I actually really enjoy my work right now and plan to stay in my current role, but with the way my industry is, I want to have a leanFIRE plan in case I'm ever affected by a layoff. My goal would be to leanFIRE in Thailand (most likely Bangkok but maybe Chiang Mai). I expect my monthly expenses to stay under $2,000 ($24k/year). Since I'm on the younger side, I’d be targeting a conservative 3.5% Safe Withdrawal Rate (SW”
“I plan on coast fire at 55 once our house is paid off. Currently 35 with 500k in retirement. I did a lot better than I thought I would thanks to taking a chance on NVDIA in my IRA back in 2018. COVID bonus helped and I make about 100k on the east coast as a regular staff RN. Scaled back to minimum for my employer match because I’m pregnant and want to pad the baby fund a little more. My husband plans on working forever because he loves his job so I’ll get my healthcare through him. When I’m 55 I”
“I posted few days ago about FIRE planning and got good advice, my current plan is to work until age 50, I am 47 now then go part time just to keep my mind active, this is our current assets Salary is 600k, 2 Kids age 8, 11. House is paid off, SAHS, portfolio 80 stocks and 20 bonds now My expenses around 150k How do you adjust your portfolio if the plan is to keep working part time?, I will probably get around 150-200k working part time, high level job security Does increasing bonds allocation st”
“When asking whether a number is 'enough' you need to look at withdrawal rates. A 4% SWR is a popular figure in the FIRE community. I would argue that with asset prices as high as they are, we may well be in a period where 4% fails. Besides, a fixed rate, taken from your portfolio value at retirement , adjusted for inflation every year is more of a 'spherical cows in a vacuum' number. It's good for doing a ballpark check, but you should be using a flexible ~ 3.5% of your exist”
“Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to FIRE and trying to understand what metrics people actually watch to make sure they’ll reach their goal. What do you track most closely? Savings rate Net worth growth Portfolio value Monthly contribution amount FI number progress Withdrawal rate Something else? I’m mostly curious about the numbers that help you know whether you’re still on track, not just general investing stats. Would love to hear what matters most to you. submitted by /u/Adrienzzz [li”
“Congrats! I just discovered FIRE a few weeks ago. Reading posts like yours is what keeps me motivated. How long did it take you to hit that number?”
“Thank you! I'm about to start doing that... Not easy since there's always the constant S&P record-high fear but I guess I'll do DCA during the following years.”
“Fellow CPA here, in NYC, and a couple years older, but due to extra college years I started work around the same time. Converted CAD to USD, my numbers match you almost exactly up till the most recent years! Even our total expenses are just slightly more than yours. My current job has given me great and consistent raises, so I'm a bit further along now - though you'll probably be further when you hit my current age. Congrats on your progress! Seems like”
“My portfolio is rather simple: 2040 target date fund S&P 500 index fund QQQ Cash A little of gold and bitcoin More or less it all moves up and down in the same percentage as S&P 500”
