“Very sad today, my 1yr old betta died suddenly after a day of strange behaviour. Wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of thing happen? Two days ago he was more docile than normal, staying around the top of the tank and not interested in food. Yesterday he was even more…”
“Woke up yesterday to one of my dwarf gouramis dead near the heater, ever since we got this female swordtail she has been nothing but problems. She constantly goes after any of the gouramis. Thankfully I caught her before she took our other ones out. Originally was in a 36 gallon…”

Aquarium owners are finding fish, specifically gouramis, dying suddenly despite seemingly normal water parameters. The fish often show signs of inactivity or unusual positioning before death, sometimes accompanied by reduced appetite in the weeks prior.

Thankfully I caught her before she took our other ones out. Originally was in a 36 gallon tank with a bunch of tetras, angels, gouramis, and mollies and wouldn’t bother any of the other fish except for the 3 gouramis we had. (now 2) In the other photo you can see the damage she did to our other dwarf. I reloc”

“I would not say I'm inexperienced in fish keeping but this is really stumping me so any help is welcome I'll try and just put as much info as possible but it's not organized in any particular way Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrates: 0ppm Nitrites: 0ppm (Yes my tank is cycled I just have a shit tone of floating plants) Tank age: 4 months old I don't have anything to test GH or KH so that's unknown TDS~ 250ish Temp: 77° Fish: 8 harlequin rasboras 1 of the 8 is in a hospital tank 8 or 9 scis”
“I'd accepted my Spiny eel's sedentary lifestyle, but more and more times i look into the tank only to find him lying upside down just dozing, or dying...? concerned death is coming knocking for David Beckham "D-B" the Spiny Eel. when i first got him he didn't stop wiggling around like he'd had bad acid for days... but now he's so calm its becoming worrysome. He's a pretty small little guy, about the size of a gummy worm for reference. The tank is roughly 45x30x3”
“Something's clearly wrong with my pygmy gourami I don't know what happened, he's not dead yet ( i'm not entirely sure how to euthanize a fish but I think that would be the most humane situation) he was sort of resting on a leaf when I went to work. But when I came home , he was at the top of the tank still moving , but like this. All my other fish seem fine and my parameters are good. The only thing I can think of is I added new plants yesterday but like I said , everybody else see”
“these pictures have been taken in the space of 6 days. he died shortly after the last picture. i have this cursed aquarium that keeps developing sick fish, already wiped out all my guppies and all my bristlenose plecos. somehow my pygmy corydoras are completely healthy (for now). it’s really a slow developing disease, they only get symptoms 3/4 weeks after they get contaminated. they develop neurological symptoms, weakness, body wasting, sunken head, sometimes wounds all over their body. sometim”
“I purchased this baby yesterday, it seemed okay so far, good apetite, good coloration. But now sitting on the ground. Can it be that my water current too high? When do the dwarf gouramis act like this? I appreciate any help and advice thank you Last time i checked parameters 02.09 pH 6.5 No2 0 NO3 50ppm Same day i did 20% water change Also on 9th TDS was276 ppm submitted by /u/dokifluid [link] [comments]”
“Welp, I just had my first fish death… but I can’t figure out what happened. I have a ~10 gallon tank that had a honey gourami all of with 2 Amano shrimp, and a 8 ish exclamation point rasboras. I just moved places today and did a 50% change since the water parameters matched well enough, with in 1 dGH/dKH. I did cover the tank with a towel after to give them a dark space to relax in. She was fine during and after the move. She swam around even on the car ride over. The rasboras and shrimp are fi”
“My sweet little cosmo, I am so upset knowing that I’ll most likely wake up one of these days and find him dead. I love and will continue to love him so much for the time I’ve had him, he had the sweetest personality and was always so eager to see me for feedings 💔 That’s what makes this so heartbreaking, I KNEW this fish and I’m about to lose him to something that isn’t even my fault. Had I known before a majority of dwarf gouramis carry DGIV, I would’ve never let myself buy him, get attached,”
“Hi everyone. I had my honey gourami pass away three days ago. Today, I found my bristlenose pleco dead too. He was fine just two hours ago, and when I came home, he was dead. No visible signs, water parameter are perfect, no changes in temperature (76.5F), and no lack of oxygen (I run an air stone and an AC50). It’s a 20 gallon, nine months old. I didn’t make any changes to the feeding schedule (I feed 3 times a week with hikari micro pellets and hikari sinking wafers). I’ve had my gourami for e”
“I am taking care of my neighbours fish and today there was a fish laying on the floor dead !! I put him back into the water but he was already dried out and just floating on top of the surface... I am so scared to tell my neighbour I have only fed them for the last 3 days, following the instructions he gave me He will come back in two week... what can I do so this won't happen to other fish I feed them one little spoon of food per day and put 25ml of liquid fertilizer into the aquarium Am I”
“I'm having a hard time keeping gouramis alive. My tank is established and I've tested all the water parameters. It is fine everything is at zero. I do run co2 but the reagent shows it at an acceptable level. I only keep 3 at a time in my 60 gallon, but they keep dieing. Only my original Blue Gourami lives. I've been keeping aquariums for many many years, but I've never kept gouramis before. Are they fragile? Is the original blue gourami killing the others? Can you think of anythi”
“Very sad today, my 1yr old betta died suddenly after a day of strange behaviour. Wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of thing happen? Two days ago he was more docile than normal, staying around the top of the tank and not interested in food. Yesterday he was even more sluggish but would react if I moved near him and was breathing air fine although his swimming looked more laboured. The picture attached is from last night where he was just sat there like that not moving, gills moving fair”
“Fish is not dead he's just like that. I have a fish that every time I see him I think he's dead until I get closer and he darts away. Sometimes he will be floating at the surface upside down. Sometimes he will be on the bottom upside down. Sometimes I will find him deep in some java moss. Often I will not see him for days only to find him looking almost dead every time like now. Shortly after getting him he started to get more deformed and have more problems swimming as time went on. He”
“My betta fish (kept in a 5 gal) has suddenly not been able to swim properly this morning. He was fine last night, but this morning he's resting on leaves / gravel curved and lopsided. When he swims, it's more like he's twirling on his side. I know this might be swim bladder, and I'm already doing the motions to treat that. Though, is it something worse? There's no physical damage to his fins, nothing in the tank has changed. He's my first betta fish and I'm really not”
“This happened a few days ago, tank has been sitting empty with plants in it since. I had a 15 gallon tank that has been going strong for over 4 years. Planted tank, no issues whatsoever Before this. Before the new fish all I had in it were 2 black neon tetras and a female betta. I added 2 more black neons and an otocinclus at around noon, watched them all day. No signs of sickness, no red flags, nothing. Went to bed, woke up the next day. The 4 tetras, the otocinclus, the betta, all dead. I remo”

“I got 2 literally 5 days ago. Aswell as some gourami fish. Both frogs have hidden ALOT and I'd only seen one of them once. I've done everything right. But today one of the frogs surfaced and wasn't shy. The other frogs is still to be found. I've not seen them eat?!? But the gouramis are doing fine, as expected because I've done everything right so far. The frog that's stopped hiding is now at the surface. He seems dead, but he's not and will move when disturbed by oth”

“Hey! I just lost my tetras after a year and a half.. I cleaned their tank as usual, and by the end of the night the 3 were dead. I replaced them yesterday with new ones - also dead by the end of the night. I was able to get them replaced and now im scared I’ll murder all of them again. I’ve got a little 3 gallon tank, a proper filter and a warmer meant for the size. I added the API quick start to treat the water, and acclimated them. So far, they’re doing ok, but one is a glo fish electric green”
“smells like shit and rotting corpses, he’s like 2 and half years old; was active 2 days ago and i noticed he was in this position yesterday but i didn’t think much of it, seeing this morning he’s still in that position and picked him up, and yeah he’s prolly gone :( my water levels were fine and everything but i also noticed he wasn’t eating as much as couple weeks prior. any causes on what might his death be? submitted by /u/soldja_ [link] [comments]”
