“I laid down plywood and I just wanted this to be more of a “mud room.” There’s a bit of a slope though towards the door which is common for drainage in older porches, so I don’t think LVP will work. I’m selling the house…”
“We build a deck 2 summers ago and covered it last spring. You can look in my feed to see pictures. It is currently a screen porch. We are trying to finish it up before it gets cold. We are having major struggles determining what to use for the finished flooring. It currently has 3/4 inch plywood with a 2 over 11 foot sloop. This is for a 3-season porch and will occasionally have wind driven rain. Can anyone send us in the right direction on what to do for finished flooring and if we need a drain”
“Hi, i have a small entryway that my cat loves to pee in. And i believe a bit of it has gotten underneath the laminate flooring so i plan to rip it out and clean underneath. Are there any recommendations for waterproof flooring? I have no experience but am willing to do the research on whatever is recommended. Thank you. submitted by /u/Pure_Bicycle3782 [link] [comments]”

Originally the stairs had engineered hardwood treads and nosing, but the flooring we chose only matched with white oak hardwood stair treads, which have been installed. Now, the stairs squeak. like. crazy. So loud, I can't hear my partner as they're talking to me while I walking on them. They sound like a 300-year-old house. The top two st”
“So we've been planning on getting new flooring for a while because our puppy was peeing in one spot and the carpet was starting to stink. We got a little impatient and ripped the section out that stunk. This area is where our dining room table was so it's not a really small area. Maybe 100 sqf. Well to our surprise there's really old tile fllooring underneath. We live in a slab house so I was expecting just concrete. The problem is it was asbestos tile and I tore it up without knowin”

We have selected 7”reclaimed oak, and we need to chose between: (1) solid hardwood, nailed and glued, and (2) high-end engineered with thick wear layer, nailed only. I hate floors that feel and sound “dead” underfoot. So I’m very skeptical of both glue and engineered wood. Unfortunately I think we have to accept one or the other at this width. Which will be the lesser evil? The current hardwood narrow plank floor (th”
“We just moved into a new house that has site finished oak floors in the living/dining area but carpet in the family room. The carpet has got to go, it absolutely does not work for our family. I would really love to install site finished wood to match the existing wood but I cannot do it right now. (We can't be out of the house for a week right now, literally just moved in 3 days ago and we have new jobs and school for the kids starting.) If I put this prefinished wood in now, can I later san”
“My house currently has gunstock oak wood flooring downstairs. Finally replacing my carpet upstairs (about 400 ² ft, 2 bedrooms, small walk in closet, and a hallway). The stairs will remain carpeted. Deciding between lvp pergo “augusta” in 3 inch planks (the one with the blue on it), lvp southwind new traditions in “butterscotch” (the one with the green sticker on it) or hardwood in gunstock. I’m leaning towards the pergo Augusta, as it seems slightly more neutral and the butterscotch feels super”
“I'm replacing the upstairs flooring in the house we just bought and looking for suggestions. We have hardwood flooring downstairs (as pictured) and that is definitely staying. I'm unsure of the best plan for changing the carpet upstairs. Some leading options: 1.) try to match the existing downstairs flooring and run that through the entire second floor 2.) match the existing downstairs flooring and run it through the upstairs hallways but put carpet in all the bedrooms 3.) do wood in the”
“changing our carpeted landing to laminate flooring, but were keeping the stairs carpeted. Im overthinking now about the transition at the top of the stairs if its gonna be a trip hazard. any ideas/experience with same? submitted by /u/sillymastcell2015 [link] [comments]”
“So I'm planning to replace carpet with hardwood. The carpet is in a portion of the house that was an addition and underneath the carpet and pad it doesn't look like the subfloor. I've already taken up some carpet in the original part of the house and the carpet was on top of a kind of tile underlayment that was adhered to the hardwood in the original portion of the house. It looks like that tile continues underneath all of the carpet, although there is no hardwood underneath in the a”
“I’m in the process of retreading my stairs in my home. The current treads are solid wood, but some have cracks across the step. We already ordered replacements for the entire staircase. My question is, it looks like the skirt board is scribed around each stair. Does it make sense to pull off each tread and glue the new ones on, or cut the nosing off and glue the new ones on top of the old ones. I understand that will throw off the riser height from the bottom and top step. I’m hesitant to pull t”
“We recently purchased a house in the caribbean with very pretty honey colored engineered flooring. The house is about 10 years old, and I believe it is the original flooring. There is a corner in a bedroom where the flooring has water damage from the previous owner. I thought it would be relatively easy to find a replacement and just replace this corner, but so far I have not had any luck. Recently went to some stores if Florida and they all basically told me I won't be able to find a match”
“My new apartment has vinyl flooring steps. I know this will make it difficult/dangerous for my dog. I’m looking for options to make the steps accessible for my dog. All options seem to have some kind of adhesive that I’m sure will ruin the flooring. Any advice?? submitted by /u/sandybcheek [link] [comments]”
“Looking for a solution to finish these stairs, I think there used to be carpet. Different planking upstairs and downstairs. They don’t make either flooring anymore so can’t find matching planking with the bullnose for stairs. Don’t really want to fork out the $50 a plank those seem to cost. I have enough of the downstairs planking to cover the risers and treads. Should I just run with that and find some stair edge that looks decent? The upstairs transition looks as though it’s gonna be a pain to”
“Installing new flooring in whole house. Everything previous owners did, is shit. There was an add on to house a few decades ago. This is where the old portion meets the not as old portion. Any good ideas to fix this and make it look less like garbage. Flooring on One side of the house is about 2-3 inches higher than the original side. Appreciate any ideas. submitted by /u/Danis85666 [link] [comments]”
“So I’m redoing my back porch, and half of it is actually over foundation/my basement, so we’ve installed OSB subfloor (what we yanked out was 120 year old tongue and groove hardwood). Looking for suggestions for flooring that will be outdoor-safe, waterproof, and pet proof, that can be installed over subfloor that’s not perfectly level (read: 126 year old house) and won’t cost a fortune submitted by /u/supertrooper513 [link] [comments]”
“We ripped up old carpet on our second floor and want to lay new flooring down. We would prefer to put flooring on top of the old floor so that we don’t have as big of a step into the rooms off the hallway (one step would about 2 inches) but that may cause issues with the top stair tread. Is there an easy solution to this that I don’t know of? submitted by /u/Skuttlebutt42 [link] [comments]”
“We want to install either hardwood or engineered hardwood in our home. This would be house-wide other than full baths. We have cats that are bad and sometimes pee outside the box. Due to this, we know our options are severely limited. We’ve had contractors push us different ways - one towards regular, pre-finished hardwood. And others towards full install, sand and stain so they can coat multiple times. I’ve also considered water resistant engineered hardwood. Seeking input and thoughts to help”
“Hi! We are building a 6x8 mudroom outside our kitchen door. Right now there's an old telephone booth sized cabin. It will be built on piers. It will have walls with insulation and windows and a door. We live in southern CT.I am conflicted about flooring. Right now we are thinking plywood subfloor with luxury vinyl planks that are apparently rated for three seasons. But would composite (I don't want to deal with painting year after year) tongue and groove porch flooring be better? s”
“You gotta put down bumpers, pads on chair and barstool legs and silicone sliders underneath the furniture that moves on your flooring. Felt. Rubber. Silicone slippers. Beds. Our daughter’s four poster bed is so light (ikea). It needs rubber feet added to the posters so that it doesn’t damage LVP. What’s your favorite helper to protect floors? “Hello, I am doing a ramp for a job and need some ideas on how to end this transition on each side. Left to right. They did they flooring and then after wards decided to put the ramp in. Thanks in advance submitted by /u/Imaginary_Demand_666 [link] [comments]”
“Hi everyone, I just purchased an apartment that has some really outdated flooring and doesn't fit my aesthetic. I like the polished concrete flooring look (though prefer floorboards) - I'm wondering if the tiles need to just be removed or if it's possible to go for a concrete 'look' by rendering over the top? Very new to home renovations so I would not be attempting this as a DIY, just seeking ideas before I contact any professionals. If it's too problematic I will probab”
“Hey everyone, looking for some advice before i ruin my living room. I'm ripping out about 1200 sq ft of old carpet in my house, budget is tight, trying to stay under $3.50 a sq ft for materials. Originally i wanted LVP but i really prefer real wood under my feet. Been looking for options because i want to use some affordable engineered hardwood to keep costs down. Found some lower grade oak/hickory options for like $2.20 a sq ft. they have more knots and color variations, but i actually like”
“Hi folks, I just recently bought a 2011-built stone house in North Europe. I am going to lay laminates, which have a cork layer attached under for acoustic insulation. The subfloor is made of gypsum boards. I'm now hearing that installing a vapor barrier on second floor can do more harm than good, and it's not needed because the downstairs is a heated living space already. I don't want to blindly trust an LLM-generated text, so I wanted to ask your knowledge about the topic. Thanks i”
“An awful creaking noise is coming from this 1.5 year old subfloor when walking over this section. (See attached video.) This is AFTER it was re-enforced with many screws along the joists. At times, it almost sounds like the noise is coming from under the wall that sits over it. Builder says it’s common floor squeaks and isn’t covered beyond their 1-year warranty. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this? submitted by /u/kjnetmaster [link] [comments]”
