Breastfeeding mothers can't get enough milk to feed their babies

Mothers report producing as little as 0.6oz per pumping session, with one breast producing significantly more than the other. This leads to frustration and concern about infant nutrition and milk supply regulation.

I am 12 weeks postpartum and I am really stressing about feeding my baby. This is my second and the first time around I never remember wanting to quit breastfeeding so bad. My baby was not gaining weight well, it took 3 weeks to get back to birth weight, I was in so much pain from a bad latch. Eventually went to a IBCLC and then we have been going to an OT/LC every week since 4 weeks old. Baby has a lip and tongue tie. OT/LC said getting him clipped would be an out of pocket expense and the comm

Hi! I’m a first time mom and have been exclusively breastfeeding my baby who’s 6 weeks old. I do not pump. It seems like my supply has decreased over the last few days. I’m no longer leaking and my boobs no longer feel full. I’m afraid my baby isn’t getting enough and starting to worry since I do not pump nor have I had any plans to start him on formula! Since I’m 6 weeks PP I should be starting my period soon. Could that be it? I also just started birth control pills (day 3). Could that be it?

So I’ve always been tall and slim. Always tried to gain weight and it’s never worked. I got pregnant and finally put some weight on and I was honestly pretty happy about it. I’m breastfeeding and currently weighing below what I started before I got pregnant. I hear everyone talk about how they can’t lose weight but I’m concerned about losing it. Genuinely didn’t want to really lose any just because of breastfeeding. I’m dairy free because my baby can’t handle dairy so I’m sure that contributes.

I’m nursing for 3 years, the little one is 8 months old. I’m also 40 and overweight so I’m feeling crap. I saw another post where everyone said they feel ugly but I unsure if that’s really breastfeeding or just post partum and sleep deprivation and formula mums feel the same. I’m curious how is the experience of the end of breastfeeding. I only stopped for 3 months but I was 3rd trimester pregnant. submitted by /u/Cultural_Owl9547 [link] [comments]

I’m about to hit the 6 month mark and feeling like I’m ready to tap out on breastfeeding but also feeling guilty cause I know a lot of things say to do it for a year. Just to add, I mostly pump because my baby was born very small and pumping has been a lot easier with being able to track how much he was getting. But I also do direct breastfeeding at least once a day. But BF/pumping is just exhausting and I’m over it and just wanting to see what other moms have done submitted by /u/Ca

Hey all, my wife and I have a healthy 2 month old who's been breast/bottle feeding. My wife has had a good supply overall, but the last couple days she has had recurrent clogging in her milk ducts. Anyone else experience this? I've seen other posts saying ice and ibuprofen are the go-to treatments, but is there any way anyone has found to keep the ducts from continuing to get clogged? She's pretty uncomfortable but also worried it's going to be affecting her supply, so any words

My LO is 3 weeks old and my supply has been very low. Each pumping session I only get out 20mls total from both breasts. It’s becoming so frustrating and I’m running out of options. I saw an IBCLC and she told me that the issue is my baby’s high hard palate. The goal is to exclusively pump for a week to increase my supply and give my LO formula for the time being. I’m currently taking supplements to try and help my increase as well. My goal was to EBF but I’m reaching the point of giving up. At

My baby will be 10 weeks on Wednesday and I’m not sure if she’s going through a growth spurt or if my supply dropped? Since last night she’s been waking up inconsolable every hour to eat. I’ll feed her for a bit and then she gets really frustrated. Yesterday she nursed for 3hrs, she usually only goes for 2hrs. But I’m not sure if she nursed longer bc it took more time or if she was just hungrier. I haven’t dealt with this before, but I had to stop birth control (Deblitane) 2 days ago bc it was m

My baby is 3 weeks old and I’m really struggling. Breastfeeding was going great the first week and I was so happy and enjoying it so much. Then at his first appointment we found out he was losing weight, which was really scary, so I started pumping and giving bottles of breast milk. Thankfully he’s gaining weight now, but he latches less and less every day. Sometimes he gets frustrated at the breast, won’t open his mouth, or just stays there like it’s a pacifier. I have a strong letdown, so some

I’m just shy of three weeks postpartum and this breast-feeding thing has been so difficult with my low supply. Today, I breast-fed my baby who I’ve been combo feeding, but I’m trying to wean off formula if I can and just try to get him to latch on my breast as much as possible. Today, he only has had one nap because he was getting fussy after putting him down after I breast-fed him. I feel like my body has failed him that I can’t provide him with enough milk that he needs. Last year my supply was good not over supplier at all but I fed my baby and was able to pump him like one 3oz bottle as well. This time around (14 months apart) my supply has been so low. I’m about 4 days in my milk came in earlier today! I have a few questions I’m hoping someone more experienced can help me with… I am seeing lactation later today as well. Now that my milk is in, baby is a little harder to latch. She used to immediately suck on and now she takes a minute or so of fussing at the nipple before latching. This started happening as soon as my milk started coming in and has been happening at each feed since. Is this normal? One thing I will note is we had our first ped

For those of you that successfully and intentionally lost weight while breastfeeding, what was your diet / exercise regimen? And how did you make up for broken sleep? How did you ensure supply wasn’t affected? Going through some struggles with my 6 week LO. Day 3 she lost 10% of her bodyweight so the pediatrician ordered me to triple feed (nurse, pump, then supplement) since she was not getting enough from the breasts. Day 4 they released her anterior tongue tie in the office. Since day 3 I have been triple feeding every day and I'm exhausted and want to know from other moms if it's possible for her to get to exclusively nursing or if I should give up and combo/formula feed. For context, I have a good supply, and my baby has a great latch and is able to transfer plenty of milk when nursing. The reason I am using an SNS (supplemental nursing system) is so my LO can get fortified milk. She's no good with a bottle, so our speech therapist, LC, and dietitian said an SNS might be a solution. They want her to take about an ounce of fortified milk from the SNS at each feed in addition to whatever she's getting from me directly. I've only been using the SNS for

(Important to note I don't have a thyroid and I have PCOS) My supply keeps dropping and I don't know why. I am feeling so defeated. My baby is 4 months old. At 2 months old my supply randomly just disappeared. I stopped getting letdowns easily and the volume decreased. I was able to get it up but it's still not enough. Now it seems every couple weeks it just drops drastically again. I was having one let down on each side lasting a minute and now I am lucky if it's 30 seconds. She

I’m 19 days postpartum. I’ve made a few posts in the group before about how my milk didn’t come in till day four, but I’ve struggled with low appetite and undersupply. This lactation consultant wanted me pumping eight times a day on top of trying to latch, but I took the advice from this group to just latch, my baby as much as possible, and not pump. One of my breast stopped responding to the pump ( which has new parts) , the other does express about 30 mls tops , but gets sore after. For a short period of time I had a good response with the pump , draining 70mls above in the mornings. Now I just spent 30 min to get 10 MLS on the right side. Hi friends- I’m feeling at a massive low point in my breastfeeding journey and really need to hear from folks who’ve been in similar positions. My son was born 9 weeks ago at 37w3d. He was losing too much weight and then developed pretty severe jaundice, so we quickly moved to triple feeding with a bottle to get him nourished asap. Latching still was very very difficult once we were home- nipple shields kind of helped, but even then he

I've always been a low supplier. At the beginning I had to triple feed, and I worked with 2 LC who helped me so much. By the time my baby was 1 month old, I was finally able to stop triple feeding and switch to exclusively breastfeeding. At first, my baby gained weight well. After that, the weight gain was always on the lower end of what's expected each month, but still within the normal range. At our last pediatrician appointment, my baby hadn't gained as much weight as expected. He

I wanted to post this because I spent a good three weeks searching reddit and the internet for tips and success stories for my position and they were hard to find. Pretty sure I have IGT. I’m 5 weeks pp and have done it all- triple feeding, SNS, supplements. I’m still only able to produce about .5-1oz each time I pump. That’s pumping alone, not after a feed and getting max 1-1.5oz during early morning/MOTN with a power pump. I love the closeness and bond we get with nursing so I don’t want to stop. Basically as the title says. I’ve worked really hard during the past 8 months to establish breastfeeding, along with formula and pumping, as both twins were fairly lazy latchers and had a strong bottle preference. Now, they prefer the breast and I BF them on demand, whilst supplementing with formula and pump at least once a day to ensure they have breastmilk with every bottle feed. TLDR: My 1 month old has restarted breast feeding and is continuously cuing for the breast even after just eating. I don't know what to do or if it'll go away with time. When I had my daughter, she had a super strong latch. By the time I left the hospital, my nipples were dry, bruised and had scabs.
