“So I've been slowly moving away from Spotify and built a self-hosted music setup instead. Running Navidrome as the server and using it with Feishin on desktop and Symfonium on Android. Overall it's been a pretty good experience, library is organized, playlists sync fine between devices since they're stored on the Navidrome side, no more subscription. I want to know if people would still use a social-matchmaking app based on Spotify activity, despite blends already existing. It sounds like the bigger issue is that it's not obvious to first-time users, and that's on me. “The problem with subscription music is that the streaming platforms have no incentive to get you to discover new music - you're already paying either way.Before Apple Music, when it was just the iTunes Store, Apple introduced iTunes Genius and it was scary good at recommending music; it worked so well I shudder to think what I spent in total buying $1 songs off of it.But apple's music "play similar songs" just seems to take the same artists and pump their other album filler songs.”

“Yeah we do a lookahead in the queue to preload tracks in advance of their playback - this is how we got gapless playback working. By default, the player looks ahead 3 tracks, but this is also user configurable in the settings (Settings -> Playback -> Track Lookahead)”

“GOAL : Me (and my family) place music in separate Spotify playlists. 1). Songs in those playlists are downloaded to my server and then 2). are synced to plexamp (paid). Finally I would 3). expand this to some way to find New Music in a playlist (which would also sync). I can do 1). (Spotify-->Server) easily on a few apps (Downtify, Spotify to Plex, Lidarr).
