Owners of older HVAC systems struggle to locate compatible capacitors due to discontinued models and limited availability. This forces them to either overpay for rare parts or risk system failure by delaying replacement.

“I have an RV with a standard roof AC. Compressor not starting, given the age (4-5 yrs + Texas heat) I'm guessing the capacitor gave up the ghost. (Tested with ESR meter.. they tested in spec though 🤷) Anyway, it uses a 60uF cap for…”

“Hello, Could use some guidance on correct capacitor to use on my 30 year old Lennox AC unit Model: HS19-411v-3p Was running fine just before a thunderstorm with heavy rains. After the storm, tried turning it on and its just a loud buzzing noise no fan movement. All my googling tells me this is a classic case of bad capacitor. Popped open the side panel and found the part number: 96C4901, has one red wire and one yellow wire coming off of it. Found this on lowes website: capacitor Would this repl”

“My AC stopped blowing cold last night. Before I call anyone out I wanted to try replacing the capacitor or seeing if there’s any other diy friendly fix I can look at. Can yall help me figure out which capacitor to buy and what else I should check? Lineset wasn’t frozen and the air filter has been changed. submitted by /u/Skopies [link] [comments]”

“Own a 4000sf home with 2 4 ton units (upstairs/downstairs). The units are old and it’s been seeming like I have to change the capacitor every two weeks. Decided to get quotes for replacing the units with heat pump. Called a family friend that does AC repairs and Installations (licensed) and he quoted me $21k for everything. He just told me that I had to pay and pickup the equipment myself. Parts and equipment shown in photo came out to $17,677.23. Labor would come out to ~$3300. Wondering if the”

“I have an old Samsung window ac unit that no longer blows cold and only hums for a few seconds as the compressor tries to kick on. I know how to replace it, I just can't find the part. I know it's an uncommon value, and my best googling only found sold out options. submitted by /u/raydio27 [link] [comments]”

“Replacing this capacitor. It's original. Hope to purchase local. Is there a common replacement option, or should I be looking for the exact same? Don't know if still sold. Thank you. submitted by /u/necromors [link] [comments]”

“When my heat pump stopped working and fan wasn't spinning I opened it up and saw that the capacitor was bulging, so I figured that was the issue. I replaced the capacitor today and the unit turned on and fan was spinning. But after 7 hours with the thermostat set to cool the air is still blowing but the temperature on the thermostat still says 84. What would you do next? Aside from wait for the hvac guys to come out. Note: It has been 98 degrees all day today if thst matters, thanks su”

“My local church leader has asked me if I can help replacing this capacitors bank . Its part of a phase converter used for the elevator and after 12 years of use they blew up. I’ve never work with capacitors before but I do know they are dangerous because of the stored energy. If I do it I know ill have to discharge them. But I guess my question is to install the new ones do I just connect them and turn the power on or is there something else I need to do ? Thanks in advance. submitted by &”

“Hello all, Thanks to all the comments from my previous post, it was the capacitor and I was able to replace it and have it up and running again. However, I have a minor problem that I’m hoping y’all can assist with. The original capacitor was a diversetech 4JR7545-V Motor Run. While the new one is a Titan Pro Motor Run TRCD4575. It’s much wider than the previous one. The mount being used is a Carrier 317739 which was used for the original capacitor. However, when I wrap it around the new capacit”

“Hey guys! I'm working on a camper AC, replacing the fan motor and capacitor. However, I can only find a 5% tolerance on replacements for the capacitor where the original says 6%. Do I need to keep looking or will that be fine as long as the other specs are correct? submitted by /u/SneakyBeaver262 [link] [comments]”

“We want ti buy a spare capacitor to have on hand in case ours goes out. OEM was replaced about 4 years ago by HVAC company and was $. Found this part # online - cpt00692 - but prices are all over the place. I saw one on Amazon which was the least $ but want to be sure we buy the right part. Appreciate any guidance. “Realized our system was frozen up last night and the fan wasn't running. Went down to check and the humming led me to order a new capacitor overnight. I installed an exact replacement, reassembled and sure enough the fan started back up, but within a few minutes you could hear it slowing down and then off with just buzzing noise. I jumped to it likely being a dead/dieing fan motor, but now that I have it disassembled I see this conflicting capacitor sizing. The previous 10/370 was running fo”

“Learn from my ignorance, dads: If you have an old school ac unit (not the new inverter types), the run capacitor gives out every 3-5 years. Most common syptom is trouble starting. Techs will want to charge you $600 to replace it... turns out it's $25 at home depot in aisle 30 and the how-to videos on YouTube are 60s long...feeling real embarrassed. Going to tackle the anode rod in my water heater next. Edit: They have like a 20yr shelf life indoors. Check what type you need and go get a spar”

“Last weekend I had my capacitor replaced for the third time in five years. Reading online it seems like this is likely a voltage/power issue. The HVAC company has never mentioned putting on a surge protector; it looks like the Intermatic AG3000 is something I can do myself. Is there a downside to adding it? I live in Dallas and we get multiple power outages a year; so, I fully believe the power supply could be the issue. For what it’s worth, each service call has been around $400. submitte”

“Hello! I have an Amana ASX130301CF Condenser that I believe was installed about 9 years ago. 2 weeks ago on a 100+ degree day, the capacitor went bad. The symptoms were the fan was turning on fine but the compressor was never attempting to start when the thermostate would signal for the system to cool. I replaced the capacitor myself, and verified with a multimeter that the old one was in fact bad. The original was a 40/5 440v dual run capacitor, and i replaced with a ProSelect 40/5 370/440v cap”

“Capacitor needs replacing - got a 35/4 on order but it'll be 6 days. Local store has a 35/5, how bad would it be to run for an hour or two a day with the wrong cap? submitted by /u/Ill-Original7720 [link] [comments]”

“A wicked storm blew over a tree, which broke the cover of my condenser. I cut the power to it while I try to find a replacement. The unit is 22 years old and runs fine. If I can't find a replacement cover soon, are there safe alternatives? For example, do I just need to find a way to secure something in place of the broken piece? submitted by /u/Ali1558Cat [link] [comments]”

“AC unit is a ~10 year old Amana; don't know the model number but I can get it in an hour or so when I get off work if it's important. Unit has always munched capacitors, basically one every year or two, but thought we finally had it licked when we had the HVAC tech install a "hard start system", whatever that is...the capacitor they installed with that lasted 2.5 years. AC went out three weeks ago and I'm tired of paying an hvac tech $200 to replace a $30 part in 15 mins. S”

“Hey Pros, I guess I am trying to find out if my capacitor is hard to find, or I guess if I am just not looking in the right place? The last capacitor I replaced on one of my other units was so easy to find. I replaced it 2 years ago, and everything has been fine since. FF to now, and my upstairs unit went out, so I got in there today and pulled the capacitor out, but I am struggling to find a replacement for a 35+4 dual 440v unit that is approx 3 1/4 in height. I know it's an older system, s”

“As a preventative measure I replace my capacitor (on compressor/condenser fan) every 3 years just to be safe of never risk it failing especially if I'm not home. Last time it failed unit was running for hours (without condenser fan spinning) till I discovered it. Am I replacing it to often? It is the cheapest insurance after all. submitted by /u/SteveCatinean [link] [comments]”
