“I’m zone 9b. I have 1 yr old sod that has taken some damage from dog urin. I’ve caught on to the fact that there is a difference in seed quality and should not buy from tractor supply 😂 I think my sod is a mix of st. Augustine, perennial rye and maybe tall fescue ( this is just based off of a plant identification app). Anyways, yall have any brand recommendations for seed? submitted by /u/Any_District1969 [link] [comments]”

“Also in Fresno and just dropped some twin City Tttf resilience 2. Hoping for similar results but I'm fighting with a lot of long existing Bermuda, Crab, and clover mix. I used starter fertilizer, kellogs topper, and tenacity after removing a ton of thatch and scarifying. Used a spike aerator. Did you pay for core aeration or rent a machine? Google image lense is saying its a common purslane, but that would be hard to believe since they are sprouting everywhere in tandem with my grass seeds & before hand I never had that many purslane; in fact none ever grew directly into the middle of the lawn sqft area where I reseeded. It can't be a grass or clover seed since it has leaves & more than 3 of them. Maybe it's one of the wildflowers? I have posted pictures of the seed labels. &#32”

“(Southeast Michigan) EDIT: To everyone saying that this was dormant seed. The bad grass is almost perfectly distributed in the new lawn. ALSO, I over-seeded a ~10 sq/ft patch, the lawn around that patch was left alone and not over-seeded or re-done at all. The patch is now full of this bad grass. The seed came from the grass mix almost undoubtedly. This fall I completely killed and reseeded my lawn with resilience 2 from tcs. I started with 2 rounds of glyphosate waiting 1 week after each applic”

“Planted a mix of TTTF/KBG (Blue Resilience from Twin City Seed Co.) about 4 weeks ago. It’s being watered twice a day. Iv been contemplating if I should throw more seed and or new lawn fertilizer down as I’m seeing some thin and or bare spots. Iv read that this type of seed spread a little slower but usually cover patches over time, I’m just not sure if that’s my case here. Any suggestions would be great. submitted by /u/Dunk_TheLunk [link] [comments]”

“That spread pattern with the runners crawling into the bare dirt patch looks a whole lot like kbg to me. I'm over in the east bay too and my tttf just sits there clumping, never fills in on its own like that. Schools sometimes get a kbg-heavy blend for sports fields since it can take a beating and stitch itself back together. You might be surprised what can survive here with some afternoon shade and decent irrigation.”

“Based on that oak leaf for scale, it looks about 2 inches tall. With this being peak season for TTTF and fertilizer applied at seeding, you should get about .2 - .25 growth per day which should put it at about 2.5 inches in two days. He should set his mower on 2 inches and take less that 1/3 of the length off. He should then bump it up by 1/2 inch ever time he mows, which would put him at full fall height after 3 mows (done at 5 day intervals). That would be wtf I am talking about. I can provide”

“I over seeded and have been watering and now this happens. Is it fungus? submitted by /u/WSBnoobxor [link] [comments]”

r/lawncare13d ago

“Yes! Though tttf takes 9 days to germinate and kbg 14 days. And kbg does something called Sprout and Pout where it starts popping up, then stops growing while it's growing it's roots out. Tttf also requires enough soil depth to truly establish itself. I did mine and it's very patchy right now. Whatever problems it has now will have to wait until March”

“[Zone 6a] My first season doing my full lawn myself. The prior year we had a service because we had just moved in and the lawn was terrible with little to no actual grass. We got a 16 year old tractor mower and a crappy Scott's spreader and I have been following the sage advice in this sub with my fertilizer schedule along with getting an aeration done along with using Blue Resilience to overseed late in August. Hell of a ton of work but wow was that rewarding. I'm excited to get better”

“Fescue doesnt spread, so are you sure that it even is fescue? Your statement about it spreading is concerning, it sounds like it may be a grassy weed or something rather than fescue.”

r/lawncare17d ago

“this might be a hot take but prg sucks, its alleopathic effects stunt better grasses like kbg so it wont spread or tiller the way it should, and makes any seed that's not prg germinate like shit, and it grows way faster than everything else, so it shades it out, drinks up all the fucking water, making every roughly twice as frequent mow a wet and messy affair. its also the first to go dormant in the summer and the last to recover, and then dies off in the winter because it gets too cold.”

Before seeding, I completely nuked the existing lawn, then aerated and tilled the area before planting. “Some of these I've seen on here a lot, some I haven't seen. My experience is only in the PNW region, zone 8b. - My preferred seeding method starting from scratch. Sow multiple varieties of TTTF the first season. The second season, overseed with KBG. This lets the TTTF establish, and then the KBG to fill in any open spots. - Soil prep makes everything else so much easier. Take the time to rototill and introduce compost. Bonus: Add in expanded shale when rototilling to prevent any future c”

“Too soon for the KBG as it’s average Germination period is 18-28 days Fine blade Tip tends to have the characteristic boat-shaped point Usually darker blue-green once established Eventually produces rhizomes , so individual plants start spreading laterally Whereas Tall fescue germinates in 5-10 days, in this mix is the first to rise (your 4wk period growth) Broader blade More pronounced vertical growth Coarser texture Does not spread by rhizomes”

“Ive seeded later than this and got great results in the spring. Id still do it personally. Make sure you dont get all 1 time of seed. You want a good mixture of similar look grass blades. This way if you get a disease that only infects 1 type of grass in your lawn, it wont wipe out the entire thing. I personally would go to some type of landscape store for the seed. Its pricey but usually better quality than the store bought stuff. Site one or something similar to that is what I recommend. You c”

I put down TCS tuff turf after dark yesterday finally, but did not realize how bad the forecasted rain is going to be (images attached). The yard is mostly fresh topsoil-basically a new lawn. I used a broadcast spreader for half the amount needed, then an overseeder, then used a roller to compact the seed into the dirt. I did buy seeding straw with tackifier to put over the seed, bu”

“I have this in random spots in my full renovated lawn 2 weeks after seeding. Google reverse image search says it resembles a wheat seedling or barley/oat sprout. I did use ez straw to sprinkle over my grass seed (I'll never do that again) and have had this popping up. There does look to be a seed attached to the root so that might help but I wanted to double check before just leaving it or attempting to pull it all. submitted by /u/CalmDog2924 [link] [comments]”

“Yes you can! We lived there for 5 years and put in a st Augustine sod yard. I wouldn’t advise st Augustine out here too dry. It’s going to be too late this year to attempt warm season seed. I’d be aiming for next June at this point. Whatever “dies” off or doesn’t come back in the spring I’ll cultivate and overseed come June.”

“You’re real confident, speaking so soon. You’re not giving your grass much time to mature and strengthen before the cool season hits. Lots of die off over winter potential, possibly all of it. Bermuda is best started in the spring, not fall. The opposite of cool season grasses. Also people don’t like growing Bermuda from seed because it a different type of Bermuda grass. The kind people like is hybrid Bermuda which you can get seeds of(it’s a sterile hybrid). So it’s more about the genetics of t”
