Homeowners are experiencing issues with their HVAC systems where the blower motor fails to start, even when the compressor or heating element is active. This often involves replacement capacitors and kill switches, but also raises questions about thermostat functionality and proper system configuration.

“Good afternoon! I’ve bought a used home, and the ac does not appear to engage the blower motor. I’ve been looking for a low voltage fuse, but been unable to locate. Any advice as to why it’s giving me a error of “no power” submitted by /u/Ok_Low6858 [link] [comments]”
“I have a Goodman system a little over 3 years old. The blower is running every 30 minutes to an hour even after I removed the thermostat from the wall. Any advice is appreciated. submitted by /u/CrowEggs [link] [comments]”

“When the furnace starts, the flap begins opening downward, but it doesn’t move smoothly. It seems to struggle to open all the way, especially around the time the burners ignite, and makes a strange noise. A few things I’ve noticed: The furnace starts and produces heat normally. The flap moves, but seems to get stuck or struggle before reaching its fully open position. After the furnace shuts off, the flap sometimes stays open. I was able to close it manually without applying any force. I’ve atta”
“Hey Team, hoping someone can assist with my system. I have a Gree Outdoor Ducted Unit (can provide model if needed) that has been working a treat for months. However I went away for a weekend and turned my system off. Now that I have returned there is no air flowing through any of the vents. I believe I can hear the fan work through one of the vents but no heat from them. Some of the troubleshooting I've already done: Made sure all rooms were set to the same operating mode. Performed a hard”
“Any advice on how to proceed? I’m a DIYer but not all that familiar with HVAC. After some troubleshooting, I thought it may be the blower motor. I replaced the blower motor and it improved the amount of time it stays on, but overall, it still short cycles. I purchased a capacitor for $10 and I’ll be trying that tomorrow. The thermostat was also replaced (had to be updated anyways) and it’s set to only blow the fan. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/dboydx [link] [comments]”
“I have a 14 year old Rheem all in one unit. It stopped blowing air inside the house. Tech came and looked at it and determined that the blower motor has gone bad. Replacing it will cost about $1700. And he said that after that was replaced, something else might be wrong. Is that high estimate? Replacing the unit is a little over $7600, does that sound high? submitted by /u/fekitten1 [link] [comments]”
“As the title says, the blower motor in the air handler stopped. I need to figure out why. The AC will turn on and freeze up since the blower motor isn't working. I haven't tried bypassing the thermostat to check the heat. Its been too hot in the house for the thermostat to turn the heat on, but I'll assume it won't turn the blower motor on. The LED code light is steady on. So no codes. Here is my plan so far. Jump R to G on the terminal block to see if the blower turns on. Jump R”
“Hi... so in the beginning of August my blower stopped blowing. Techs came out and determined the blower motor went out. Eventually they get the motor they come install it, blower blows , we got cold air again. Fast forward to September 29, the blower is blowing, I can hear it blowing strong, I changed the filter, but its not cooling smh. What could it be now??? Also the thermostat doesn't have batteries but I seen some people say it needs batteries but its never had batteries, lol smh does i”

I’ve had hvac techs out 5x for ongoing related fan issues since 10/25. The latest issue is when it’s in heat mode the fan doesn’t turn on when thermostat is set to auto. Tech here last week said it was the fan control limit switch, also said my smart thermostat was part of the issue so he reinstalled the original Honeywell thermosta”

“I have a dual-zone AC system, 1 damper going to the upstairs, 1 damper going to the downstairs and the barometric bypass damper. When both dampers are open, the bypass stays closed. When my downstairs reaches the set-point, the damper closes like normal, the upstairs damper stays open like normal, and the bypass pinches back to 50% open. The upstairs never seems to reach set-point so it’s constantly running, trying to reach it. My downstairs stat is set to 69 while my upstairs stat is also set t”
“My downstairs unit stopped working and I’m waiting for an HVAC company to come out tomorrow. My upstairs unit works but of course wasn’t sized to cool the whole house. Have a pretty open staircase layout / balcony up stairs. Master bedroom is downstairs and would like it to be cooler - currently 79 downstairs (about 94 degrees outside). Is the best play to run the downstairs system’s fan to try to circulate some of the cool air from upstairs ? I’m mainly concerned that the attic is hot and the d”
“Finally have duct work all set, static pressure is also good!! When I flip the breaker to power the furnace, the thermostat comes on and then goes right back off when the blower kicks on. I've checked the following.... Thermostat wiring all connected correctly, used same wire as previous thermostat. Fuse on board is fine. No current float switch hooked up. “Hi everyone, I'm having trouble with our 4-ton Rheem system paired with a Honeywell HZ322 zone controller . The Problem: We have very little airflow coming from the vents, and the house is not cooling down. System Details & What we've tried: Zones: We have 2 thermostats. Both zones are calling for cooling. Stage 1 vs Stage 2: Initially, only "Cool 1" (Stage 1) was turning on. "Cool 2" (Stage 2) wasn't kicking in at all. What we changed: We adjusted the HZ322 t”
“So over the past few weeks I’ve had numerous things go wrong with my HVAC. I’ve had my zone damper actuators stick and have replaced them. Then the blower relay on the furnace board went back so I just bypassed the board and installed a relay instead. Then this morning the capacitor on my condenser when out. After replacing it cool right down now it’s struggling. I cleaned the outdoor cool and these are my number about 30 minutes later. Target subcool is 14 and outdoor temp is 90. What is wrong?”
“I am not getting cold air and need some help figuring out what my problem is. The fan indoors does come on and the compressor and fan also turn on in the outdoor air condenser unit. In the first picture, the bottom pipe is slightly cool/above room temp and the top pipe is warm. The condenser itself is also warming up. The third picture is the indoor unit, where the pipe is room temp/slightly cool. Any thoughts on what the problem could be? submitted by /u/pwdcoop [link] [commen”
“Can someone help me troubleshoot why my hvac intake is weak? Dampers for All zones are working fine but zone 2 is not cooling. Wondering if the damper for the intake is shut but hard to tell what’s open or close. Also feeling a lot of cool air coming from around the last picture. submitted by /u/Jiayang784 [link] [comments]”
“My 3 year old HVAC ( new construction) in Dallas suburbs had an issue on fan not starting . First I checked and replaced capacitor which was bulged up ( no need to test for multimeter ) Once it’s fixed , fan was running but cold air was not out , I already had a home dept service appointment before the issue so they checked and found a low fluid level and wanted me to take leak test So stupidly I agreed and they found leak on coil and one joint , quoted me for 5k$ to replace coil I am confused w”
“My a/c unit kicks on, evap in air handler is getting cold, pee trap isn't plug and a/c unit runs and kicks off if I raise the pee trap float. Blower motor is not turning on at all. It spins freely but will not come on. Any advice? I am a diesel tech and could tell you what to check on a vehicle all day. But knowledge is limited to the wiring and testing of home a/c systems. submitted by /u/EndTall [link] [comments]”
“Hello everyone - my apologies for such a basic question, but I want to make sure I’m not losing my mind 🫣. I had a new packaged heat pump installed today which replaced a 20 year old heat pump that was on its last leg. I believe the brand of the new heat pump is MagicPak - I am unsure of the model # and am not currently at that property so cannot get a picture unfortunately. After the install team left late this evening, I noticed something odd during the cooling cycles that I did not pick up o”
“Hi all, At about 8pm last night my compressor and fan stopped running. I did some troubleshooting but ultimately called a technician. He came out at 2pm today, and it finally started working at 430..this was due to a new fan motor. At the time the unit started working again, the downstairs was 80 and the upstairs was 86. Right now, after almost 4 hours of running, the downstairs is 77 and upstairs is 81. Not bad, however my concern is the temperature of the air coming from the vents. Right now I”
“TL:DW, when I was taking off the panels, I found another 7.5 smaller capacitor in between the fan motor and the contacts. HVAC buddy thinks that what killed my old fan (since it was getting 15 and not just 7.5). So we cut that out, rewired it, kicked it on and she is alive! Me and the family appreciate yalls help and hopefully I wake up to a cooled house tomorrow submitted by /u/xkilljoyx [link] [comments]”

“I’ve just installed a new fan motor on my condenser and it’s not working right hoping to get some advice from the community Originally the fan would not spin when you turned the AC on unless I gave it a little kickstart with a stick. I first changed the turbo 200 cap but that didn’t have any effect on the problem so today I changed the motor and it starts up right away now, but there are new problems. The motor is making a squealing noise as you can hear in the video and the fan is not spinning”
“I have an older Goodman split system HVAC system that stopped working yesterday for some unknown reason. The blower motor is not running. The lights on the control panel are all green. I checked the capacitor and it checked out okay and looks fairly new. I had the coil in the air handler replaced last year. Any ideas what might be going on? submitted by /u/PotentialTraining927 [link] [comments]”
“Lennox system, with following furnace: SL280UH090V60C Hello. Last night my AC stopped working and the thermostat says Error Code 201, relating to a IU Blower Motor. I called the emergency number and the guy on the other line said it's likely the motor malfunctioning so there's nothing he can do. So now day 2 I'm waiting for a technician to come out, but it's anytime today, and it's getting int the 100s. I guess my furnace also controls air flow. Fwiw, the thermostat is functi”
“My system was running normal after My area had power outage for over 2 hrs , when power back on my ac unit out side running and have frost over but attic unit not running or blow any air I did shut off whole system Any suggestions what is going on ? “Blower motor is an ECM. When I command the fan to turn on, the control board starts buzzing faintly and the motor doesn't move at all. The fan easily turns by hand with no resistance. Briefly before the fan stopped working entirely I noticed it stopped intermittently for a fraction of a second at a time. Only a few times before it stopped entirely. My suspicion is that the control board is bad but do you have any suggestions for how I could rule out one or the other as the issue? submi”
“Hello all, so in one of those ac on, hvac running and all, but no air coming out we've been doing laminate floor cutting, i think dust blocked off air filter, and now we have no AC blowing any air. looked at many thread, goto fix is replacing ac capacitor, ive located where its at, just wondering is it safe to touch from main circuit braker, ac is blank, i have that that instead. as long as i pull that, ac has no power that will kill me correct? and its been disconnected more then 1”
“Hey! Thanks for reading I’m feeling very toasty at the moment. Wife txted that it was hot and the ac wasn’t running. Standard 17yo Rheem ac furnace combo. Got home nothing was moving no blowers fans compressor. The ac line was cold and had condensation. Immediately turned everything off, let it all rest for a few hours. I turn on the thermostat to cool and the compressor kicks on but the blower never starts. Same with heat. Heating element fires but the fan never starts. So I get a replacement c”
