Small YouTube Channels Get No Impressions at All
Small YouTube creators are frustrated by inconsistent and unpredictable video views and impressions. They're experiencing significant drops in visibility despite creating content, and are struggling to understand why some videos perform well while others don't, leading to uncertainty and discouragement. This impacts their ability to grow their channels and build an audience.

“Such a huge discrepancy likely means your intro is shit.. People preview your video without clicking on it which is now being counted as a view, but not an engaged view. So big difference like that means that the preview wasn't good enough for the viewer to click and watch”
“Hello Guys, so today i uploaded the 2nd video of my drama content channel, and 1st video just got 400 impressions in 5days while 2nd video ( uploaded 19hrs ago) got 30 only. Idk what’s happening. Feeling very anxious. submitted by /u/cachedthoughts_ [link] [comments]”
“I have a new channel that I warmed up. I uploaded 4 videos (content wall) from Nate Blacks methodology. After 48 hours each video is under 7 impressions. Should I be concerned? Did YouTube suppress my videos? submitted by /u/Inevitable_Ear2138 [link] [comments]”

“I think the main issue is really about perception. Seeing a higher view count makes you think the video is doing really well, so finding out that the “engaged” views are much lower can be pretty disappointing. That said, I think it’s still too early to understand the real impact this new system will have on video distribution. We’ll probably need some time to see whether it actually changes anything or if it’s simply a different way of counting views.”
“My latest video that I thought popped off has 10k views, 2200 engaged. Looks good to anyone that clicks on it in future but would rather it didn’t count”
“Sameee omgggg it's happening to me recently, but for some reason on yt studio, it says I have 60 views (for example) but it's at 0...”
“Everone seems to dislike the new views system, and I personally think it has pro's and cons, but it's very disheartning to see and think that a video is popping off, just to realise that it's not doing considerably as good as you thought. For example, my last 4 videos have the following stats: August 24, 19,314 Engaged vs 29,469 Total August 26: 2,408 Engaged vs 7,663 Total August 29: 9,261 Engaged vs 21,670 Total September 2: 2,391 Engaged vs 5,089 Total (YT Studio app shows 8.2k to”
“Hello, I just started posting shorts content on youtube, I read alot of advice and watched alot of videos about this view jail but none helps, My stayed to watch becomes %80-70 sometimes even spikes up to a 100 and my view duration sometimes peaks at %200+ but Im still locked up on 1K+ views. the videos start up like on %60 stayed to watch then falls down to %30-40's then spike up to %70+ please help me.. submitted by /u/KaririnSama [link] [comments]”
“the same video on other platform gets tens or hundreds times more views than on Youtube. I uploaded another short yesterday - almost 24 hrs ago and my Thumbnail Impressions is 9. So... My video was shown on feed to viewers whole 9 times? :D This short has 8 views on Youtube atm - all from notifications. On other platforms (scheduled everywhere at the same time) the same short currently sits at over 700 on one platform and over 1000 on another platform. All my 5 recent shorts (i add one short a w”
“Appreciate the advice! I'll run a few A/B tests and start the next vid. In hindsight, I'm guessing the viewing patterns are a lot less important than CTR and watch time”
“Hello, ive posted for eight months no but youtube still doesnt push my videos. At all. Like it doesnt even lift a finger when it sees the video is mine. For context: i upload once a month, then post once every two weeks or so, and my most recent video has like 3 impressions and 2 views. My niche is Minecraft Survival, which other channels are doing well. All my other topics on other channels do decently. So am I shadowbanned??? Does Youtube hate me??? submitted by /u/SubMinhPiChannel”

“So i was watching yt shorts and i came across this, for some reason the video showed 0 comments and 1 like (from me) but it actually has way more than 1 like and 0 comments Edit: i got my answer 😭 submitted by /u/Ok_Sorbet6416 [link] [comments]”
“And the phenomenon is still on-going. Before the update, my uploads got mostly Suggested feed (>90%) during the first 2-3 days followed by Browse. Does anyone see either the reversal of order or a flatlining based only on Browse? submitted by /u/Exciting_Ad_6837 [link] [comments]”
“I’ve personally found that if your video slows down at any point, YouTube will kill it and move on. They have millions of videos to show, so the algorithm isn’t going to give us chances based on the views we “could” get. It sucks because often times if the video had been shown to the right audience, it would have been successful.”
“what's your click through rate on this one vs your successful video? if CTR is similar but watch time is way lower, the length is probably killing you. if CTR tanked, its the packaging not the content”
“Right check, and the row count is the half that matters. Mine would've caught it too, activations are server-side. The from-where half is where it breaks, same as your 6 of 31. Server-side you get how many, never where from. So the db catches "did anything happen at all", which was my actual failure, and still can't tell you which post did it.”
“Hello I have been making videos for about an half a year and suddenly I started getting zero impressions. For both long videos and shorts. Impressions were always like 10k-50k and got few hundred or few thousands views, but now with the recent uploads what I have made I literally get like 100 impressions. And it has lasted like this over a week. And it also looks like that the imperssions are from people who has subscribed to my channel. It seems that youtube doesnt want to push it to anyone. An”
“I've noticed lately that videos seem to not be showing a like amount that correlates with the amount of views. At first I thought it could be view buying but I've seen it on way to many videos to be the case at this point. For example a video will have 10k+ views but the likes amount will still be in the hundreds. I know often there will be less likes than views but this gap seems ridiculous. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this or if it's a problem on just my end. It”
“as the title says, i have been getting advice on my channel, long story short everyone says funny moments are saturated, but WHERE, for real tho, where is the funny videos, i type all FPS popular games, its sweaty content, barely any funny haha monets, of course there are big youtubers, but its just sweaty content how there why doe people say the funny is saturated submitted by /u/chilli-nilly [link] [comments]”
“Hmm I did think it was a little low. I don’t really know what’s wrong with it though, would you mind if I DMed the video link + thumbnail to get your thoughts?”

“Hey all, I recently posted my first video to a new channel. It's currently sitting on 8.1k views with 228.3 watch hours (it's a 27 minute video) and a CTR of 1.0%. Apologies if my question is simple, but the video gets ~20 views/hour for a few hours, then drops right down to 0, then jumps back up again to 20 views an hour. Is it worth investigating why? Should I do a new A/B test or improve the thumbnail? Or should I just move on to a new video? Unfortunately Images are not allowed here,”
“Fair push. I do not have the median in front of me and I am not going to invent one, so take the average for what it is worth. What I will stand behind is the before number, 2 to 3K views an episode, and that it was consistent rather than one lucky upload. Distribution did change, but I would be guessing if I described the shape of it from memory.”
“My newest video is doing very well when it comes to views but I can't tell how much of that is due to the change they made in how views are counted since i feel like it has relatively few likes. Which analytic do you guys recommend using to check how well a video is actually performing during this kind of "transition period", is watch time a good one? I don't post traditional videos btw if that matters for the analytics, i post rap beats of 1-2 minutes in length abt 4 times a w”
“I plan on starting youtube here soon with a gaming-centered channel, but i’m a bit confused about the new views update. I mostly understand that engaged views can still be viewed in Studio, but isn’t this a good thing? If your views are counting from the moment someone clicks on your video, does that not make it easier to reach monetization goals? I might be mis-understanding it but if not then what does the community have to be upset about? is it just due to RPMs and payout amounts not accurate”
“Im only seeing a 1-3 % difference. This is on videos with 10k, 20k, 30k views etc.”
“Hello everyone. Im trying to understand how youtube works and why this is happening. A few months ago, I started a new gaming channel focusing on the game dead by daylight. I've posted videos about new things that a lot of people were researching, new killer update etc. But non of the videos got impressions from youtube. And then I realized all the videos were only visible in restricted mode because it's a violent game. I figured, maybe that's the reason why there are no impressions.”
“just checked out your channel and yes I can see you are passionate about your videos. you are getting better and better with them too.”
“Views are counted differently now. Go to the advanced analytics page in YT Studio and compare "Views" with "Engaged Views" which are how they used to be counted. My engaged views are about half the new view count, but the numbers are about the same as they always have been.”
“Everytime I see a video on my feed with the “#0 Hyped” tag it’s always just a video I’d watch. I’m feel like it’s not even doing what it’s meant to submitted by /u/Individual-Buddy-769 [link] [comments]”
“I have a long form video that “took off”. It’s getting 250-400 views per hour which is a lot for me. It’s been doing this for like 5 days. I have pushed back a scheduled upload waiting for it to slow down, but it hasn’t. In the past, uploading a new video kinda feels like it slows down the momentum of the video before. It’s more of a feeling with rough examples. Should I push back the video until it slows down? It’s been like 10 days, and I plan on moving to 1-2 videos a week asap. submitt”
“It seems counter-intuitive. You're uploading a video then make it inaccessible right when it matters most, during its first day(s). As such, it gets less recommended to non-subscribers, channel interractions drop too and then boom, straight into obscurity. submitted by /u/LazyFlamingRooster [link] [comments]”
“My short which has 98 percent Avd and 59 percent stayed to watch has only 3k views. submitted by /u/Ok_Drummer7329 [link] [comments]”
“So I uploaded a video, left it unlisted and sent the link to a mate for fact checking, it now has 18 views and two likes. Is there a way others may be watching it? Unless he’s shared the link on submitted by /u/Boss_Cocky [link] [comments]”
“I just put up a video today at 2pm and it's now 8 and NOTHING - and I mean nothing. urgh...”
“It’s close enough that I ended up posting it, we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the response though I appreciate the feedback!”
“2 to 30% just means you stopped getting impressions. It's very common for impressions to taper off rapidly after posting if you're a new channel irrespective of any action you take. For this reason you probably want to launch with a thumbnail a b test rather than trying to change it mid flight”
“LESS much less like NONE. It's like Youtube has now forgotten my video's. The ones before the 24th are still getting views. But when I put up a video nothing happens. I just put up a long today 5 hours Nothing!!”
“A lot of half truths here or just a common misunderstanding of your audience. Your content and your channel. But I’ll take a stab. 1.5k subs and an average of 500 impressions doesn’t jive. 500 impressions is the same as 20 impressions. Looking at your channel you post like once a month if that. Your titanfall videos did great and likely got you those 1.5k subs… over a a year ago. Now you’re doing Minecraft, TitanFall, whatever and your impressions and engagement will continue to be inconsistent.”
“that’s a great sign it’ll move the needle. while you’re at it, try tagging the exact timestamp where you drop that teaser line and note it next to your retention graph. once you see where the curve bends after that point, you can nudge the teaser earlier or later a few seconds at a time and actually pinpoint the sweet spot instead of guessing.”
“For some reason my new video is at 16 impressions after 2 hours. Usually this number is closer to 500/600 (same niche too). I know that impressions can vary per video but i feel like this drop is something else. My viewers have also told me they aren't able to hype the video even though it just released and i only have 1.5k subs. Does anyone have an idea to what's going on? submitted by /u/Chemical-Penalty4606 [link] [comments]”
“Does anyone know why it can take one person just posting one video in the same niche as you for them to blow up but you have posted like 10 videos in the same niche and the algorithm is like “yeah I think know what this is but it’s random to me” why does the algorithm do that ?? Is it a punishment for deleting old videos ?? I know lots of people don’t really have the answers it’s just weird how it works Like even the AI chat thig on the video knows what the video is about so why does YouTube con”
“i will say: the new view system is why the viewership chart looks like what it does: but the algorithm isn't why the video isn't getting pushed. under the hood, your video is following its normal view pattern since its all based on AVD, CTR, and engagement: there is no difference in a videos preformance before and after the update other than the fact that more impressions convert into public facing views. engaged views is the metric we care about though - that better represents where you”
“Usually my content tends to get views slowly and gradually, then spike. However this video completely flatlines in just 7 Hours? I’m curious if this has happened to anyone else. It performed a bit rough in those 7 hours, but AVD and CTR stared rising toward the end. Feels like the alg didn’t even want to give this one a chance though, which sucks because I dropped 15 hours into this one all in. And worked my ass off getting a collab with a pretty well known guy in this niche that has nearly a mi”
“This is a storytime video I posted on TikTok. It currently has 270 views with a 40.6-second average watch time, but only 3.26% watched the full video. I expected it to get pushed more because people who do stay are watching for a decent amount of time. Is the 3.26% completion rate killing the reach, or should I give it more time? I’m also planning a Part 2, so I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who understands TikTok retention/storytime content. submitted by /u/Bosshood12 [link] ”
“yeah the wrong audience thing is exactly it, once it starts pushing to the wrong people its hard to undo”
“I recently started 2 new channels. The first has 2 videos, one with 50 views (in 1 week), the other just over 100 (in 24 hours). Interestingly, youtube started testing / pushing this channels videos around 1 hour after I posted them with a secondary push after around 12 hours. The second channels first video however has not been pushed at all yet after around 40 hours. No real clue why haha. But if I notice any patterns or reasons I will let you know! Best of luck!”
“I would click your video though. Youtube does not know about your content yet, probably your truts score is low.”
“I think I had around 10 views on my first video, and 6 of those were probably my own.”
“Thanks, that makes sense. The new video still has a very small sample size, so I wouldn’t read too much into it yet, but the retention also drops sharply right after I finish explaining the aftermath, from around 75% to 43%. For this video, I removed things like asking viewers to subscribe or saying “thanks for watching,” and kept the ending very brief and focused only on the conclusion. Even then, the drop still happened. So I’m starting to wonder if viewers are simply recognizing the aftermath”
“It has 2 view which is the current and my other youtube account apart from that 0 impressions. https://reddit.com/link/p6r7h5o/video/lpq66iajxgmh1/player”
