“I am wondering if anyone had this issue before. The last name shown on my PR card (green card) is no longer showing on my country of citizenship passport due to a change in policy that only allow 5 names on the passport. Would this cause any issues when reentering the US? P/s I…”
“Hi! I just want an opinion on this cos my husband is really upset about me not having his last name (we filed I-130 immediately after getting married so i didn't get to change my maiden name). I told him I cannot change my name right now since it is in all my legal document and…”
“Hi everyone, I received my Green Card today and noticed a very strange issue. My legal surname is my married surname, and my maiden name was listed separately on my I-485 as a previous name. However, my Green Card was printed with the word “MAIDEN” as part of my surname. Instead…”
Several immigrants are reporting that their newly-printed Green Cards incorrectly include their maiden name alongside their married surname, causing confusion and potential legal complications. One person’s card lists “MAIDEN” as part of the surname, while another is seeking advice on whether to file an I-90 or wait for naturalization to correct the issue.

“If I got married and didn’t change my name for SSN /passport yet can I just use my new last name throughout all the applications or only the first page where it asks for legal name. When it asks me about I-94 or my Canadian address — can I use my new name or old one since that’s what it is on those documents. submitted by /u/Rare-Satisfaction159 [link] [comments]”
“I recently received my 10-year U.S. green card, but my first name and surname are reversed in the name fields on the physical card. I have an urgent upcoming international trip to Istanbul. Has anyone experienced a similar first-name/surname reversal on their green card? Did the airline or CBP cause any problems? I’m planning to carry my passport, green card, and USCIS approval notice. Any firsthand experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! submitted by /u/Shahno”
“My spouse is a lawful permanent resident with a hyphenated legal surname (hyphenated since birth, confirmed on her birth certificate, passport, and marriage certificate). It's also hyphenated correctly on the I-130 petition. The only place it was ever entered without the hyphen was the DS-260 immigrant visa application, which did not allow it to be entered. That single unhyphenated entry carried over to the green card and Social Security card, both printed without the hyphen. She filed Form”
“As title says my wife just received her Green Card delivered in her Maiden Name not married Name. I-485 was filed with Married name. Is this their error? Do they change this for free since this is their error? Is it just a phone call to correct? submitted by /u/GullibleTowel1242 [link] [comments]”
“I am writing this on behalf of my brother in laws wife. She has been in the US for 20+ years (yes she could get her citizenship I have expressed this many times she is scared of the test 🙄) When she received her updated card it had her old married name on (the name she had when she originally immigrated) so we went in the form and letter to get it looked at and didn't receive anything back stating it was received. Then they received a letter in the mail for an updated biometrics but it stil”
“Hi, Just wondering regarding the passports that we had within the last 5 years that we need to include in the application, I renewed my passport because I assumed my husband’s last name. Now, I am from the Philippines and my maiden last name was automatically became my middle name in that passport. But in my IDs here in Canada, my middle name is still the middle name I have since birth. Will it be an issue for the application? Thanks! submitted by /u/carrot0610 [link] [comments”
“So I got my I-485 approved recently and I was wondering how travel internationally would work. Would I have any issues with re-entry if my passport is under my maiden name but green card under married name? Me and my spouse were planning to go to my home country for Christmas and I would have to have my tickets under what shows on my passport, right? So would they find problems if that doesn’t match? Do we have to bring marriage certificate with us? I would appreciate any answers you’d have for”
“I’m a US citizen (born and raised.) My fiancé is from/living in another country and we’re getting married soon. I plan to keep my own last name after we get married rather than taking his. For those who have gone through the U.S. marriage-based green card process, did keeping your own last name cause any issues or extra complications when filing the I-130/green card paperwork for your spouse? I’d really like to hear from people who have actually gone through the process. Did USCIS ever question”
“Hey everyone, I am the beneficiary. We are about to file i-130, and on my Passport, my given (first name) is Mary Jane and my last name is Doe Smith (two family names). On my population registry (birth certificate), my given name is Mary Jane, but my Middle name is Doe, and my lastname is Smith. I don’t know why it is this way, but how should I address this? Will this cause issues? I’ve never done a name change. And the passport and population registry is from the same country. Any help apprecia”

“Hi everyone, I received my Green Card today and noticed a very strange issue. My legal surname is my married surname, and my maiden name was listed separately on my I-485 as a previous name. However, my Green Card was printed with the word “MAIDEN” as part of my surname. Instead of just my married surname, it now reads: MarriedSurname MAIDEN MaidenSurname The machine-readable zone on the back also includes “MAIDEN” as part of my surname. Looking at my I-485 copy, the preparer wrote: MarriedSurna”
