“I know that obviously playtesting is the best way to flesh out the balancing for any game. However, how would I go about coming up with the values. I am making a game in a similar vain as balatro. How would I even start with coming up with numbers for such a project?”

Several indie developers are grappling with game design challenges, particularly balancing gameplay mechanics like posture and health in RPGs, animation timing in action games, and overall system balance. There's a sense of frustration and seeking feedback on these core elements.

Either you can’t play without a heavy poison build or poison is absolute useless. The problem I am facing now, that I think shows that the whole system is broken: Everything is pretty neat right now and working well. But just one small addition like adding runes or enchantments to weapons would completely and utterly break the games balance.”

one thing I've noticed pretty consistently across the small projects that I've been working on is, and I'm sure this will shock you, game balance is hard. when I'm developing a new…

“My background is mathematical modeling of complex systems I am an applied mathematician in social science. I make games as a hobby but I think this idea could help the more serious game-makers. Like everything I am sure their is literature on the ludology of balance first game development. if any of y'all have any readings I would be supremely interested. If not maybe it is some y'all have experience with or ideas on. Think of how nice it would be to write a game and it is already balanc”

“Hi everyone; this is my first post here and its about my first rougelite; I am having some difficulty balancing it / finding a definitive "system". Game: Its a simple, small scoped rougelite; kind of a horde mode with balloons, you pop one it splits into two; think the flash minigame "Bubble Trouble" but rougelite. I wanted to make an easier rougelite with ofc metaprogression - currently how runs work is that at the end of each room (rooms are short ranging from 30sec to 90se”

“We are a small team of 3 working on a Loop Hero inspired roguelite where each run you build out a town that powers up the hero as they patrol the perimeter, fighting any monsters in your path. Outside of placing tiles to build up your town after battle, you can also upgrade the tiles in your town to get more power within the same limited space. Our original design was to use gold for upgrades, which was kinda fun because you basically always had a decision as to when you should spend your gold a”

“I’ve been improving the fatigue system for my game, Ego Lifting Simulator ! The wobble is intentionally exaggerated, do you think it is too much? Next step is recording ugly struggling audio myself, because I think sound can do a lot of the heavy lifting here. Would love to hear feedback from you all, if any! submitted by /u/Curious-Gaby [link] [comments]”

“hi guys! im newbie as a developer and an ancient relic as player; I have an idea of the game and the story, where you need to make different choices and have different consequences because of that. I dont want this to be just a visual novel (read text -- choice -- read text), but something about different dynamics and options for playing in between. Any reccs about mechanics I can add? I played a different one, but it seems like they mostly didn't cover options when you dont have the main he”

Have dev experience, yet never in games, and I want to use the emulated version to add Ratio mode (IYKYK), and rebalance characters (frame data, a few character moves, health, etc). Id love to add moves and even characters, but I figured start small since all I’ve read about making fighting games is that it’s one of the most difficult things to do right”

“We’re working on VPetlings , a desktop vpet game. We have over 20 small behaviours and this is one of the rarest ones, happening about once every 2 hours. Would you find this too disruptive? You just give it a little wiggle and he stops doing it. submitted by /u/sargantanagames [link] [comments]”

“We’re making a restaurant-action game, and this is our new Special Serve animation. The goal is to make serving feel like a satisfying combo payoff rather than a normal interaction. Does the animation feel good, or is it too slow/too busy? Would love feedback on timing, readability, and impact. submitted by /u/PepperStones96 [link] [comments]”

“So designing a ttrpg for my fantasy world. I’m trying to figure out healthy system. I have a posture and health. The posture is a number that goes down first and heals easier. Health is like hearts in Zelda and only heal if used special potions or long rest. My idea was to start everyone at 3 health plus a couple depending on class. Posture would be like agility modifier (one of the stats) plus 10 to start. I’m having trouble designing balance on this and how monsters would work. I wanna balance”
