“Have found several pantry moths the last few months (in my unit in a multi-unit building). At the first sighting, I already barely had anything in cabinets and any and all food was kept in the fridge; after seeing a few, I threw out all spices, salt, wiped cabinets, vacuumed. “Hornets are always pissed off and easily stired one another up when they get pissed off. They ain't no paper wasp or bee. If one attacks, they all attack. If you wish to let them be then it's recommend moving the compost. Otherwise I'd call professional to remove them.”

“That’s a workable solution, the bin is really too near the nest and using it repeatedly might spook them especially in late summer. Or can you move the bin away from the nest? (Do it at night if so).”

“If you're going to keep the compost bin that close to the house, I would think the bigger issue is to make sure you follow proper procedures to reduce flies and rodents. If the hornets are a problem in the US they make foaming anti-hornet/wasp spraycans. In the evening a few squirts of the foam into the nest box are more than sufficient. You don't need to coat the whole thing in a giant mound of foam. Just pssspt-psspt is all you need. Or they make wasp traps, or if you're inclined e”
