“If you've been consistent with your pre-em over the last few years, there shouldn't be too much crabgrass pressure and you should be able to get away with skipping it for a year. That said, overseeding is best done in the fall.”

Users report persistent struggles with Poa annua (annual bluegrass) despite repeated treatments. Spring germination cycles undermine overseeding and pre-emergent strategies, leaving lawns vulnerable to recurring infestations.

Lot of poa in the lawn

“Essentially yes. Poa germinates in flushes throughout the cooler weather. So you can knock a bunch back in fall, but then you have to keep that protection active until like March-April. Our seasons here are so temperate it’s a difficult battle because it drags out. But with a couple years in a row of 90% protection, you’ll eventually get it gone by hand pulling the small chunks that slip through.”

“Interested in using this product to control Poa Annua as last year my lawn exploded with it after overseeding. However, websites are mixed on applying it when overseeding - some say its OK, others say to wait a couple weeks. For what it's worth, the label as far I see says it is safe. Just curious about anyone's actual experience. submitted by /u/Spazst1ck [link] [comments]”

“I had my calendar marked to put down pre-emergent last weekend but my notes didn't specify which pre-emergent. The local nursery posted a reminder for pre-emergent and has Hi-Yield Weed & Grass Stopper (active ingredient is Dithiopyr). I asked them if it will be effective on Poa Annua and they responded that it will be minimally effective because Poa Annua is so hard to treat. I have Bermuda grass. The reason I calendared fall pre-emergent is because when I researched the post-emergent,”

“That pre emergent not working in spring is frustrating, happened with my lawn too last year. For overseeding, you want a starter fertilizer with higher phosphorus, something like 12-24-12 ratio. The watering schedule needs big change though, 20 minutes per zone two times a week is not enough for new seed. You need to keep it moist, which means light watering 2-3 times every day until it germinates. With KBG taking 14-21 days sometimes, that dry schedule will kill your germination rate.”

“It will take 2-3 years to get really good. So start now. If you can improve 50% this year that is wildly successful”

“After battling this lawn for years, I'm starting over. I've tried different lawn fertilizing companies, and they seem to do OK, but never great. I've used glyphosate on half the year yard (have to keep half open for the dogs. I've ordered some Twin City KYBG and fescue mix. Only thing is, some of this stuff doesn't seem to want to die. It's been about a week since I sprayed. I did use some blue dye in the sprayer, so maybe that's why some still looks green? What do yo”

“If you are not overseeding this fall and fight Poa Annua (and other winter annuals) in the spring, now is the time to start your fall pre-emergent campaign. (Zone 6a here) submitted by /u/-Anonymously- [link] [comments]”

“Zone 7a here, I thought about going early as I seen people have success on the 2nd week of August. Thought about Monday the 17th, last year I did August 31th and had to deal with Phytium on small area, boy it take off fast but I was able to knock it off. When you guys will go for your renovation/seeding? Air temps seems to be on the higher side while soil temp (76) seems to be almost ideal. Thoughts? submitted by /u/CosmoElon [link] [comments]”

“Poa also germinates in the Spring, so don't think you won't be fighting Poa just because you chose to overseed in the Spring.”

“Definitely like your plan! I prefer liquid Prodiamine, I think it get better coverage. You'll need to do this multiple years in a row and slowly you'll beat Poa. I still have a bit coming through in areas in the spring, but it's totally manageable and you can barely tell come late summer when it usually dies.”
