Job Seekers Battling Broken Hiring Processes
Job seekers are frustrated by a job market characterized by ghosting, irrelevant listings, and overwhelming noise. They feel traditional job boards are ineffective and require excessive effort, leading to wasted time and a sense of powerlessness. Many are building alternative solutions to address these issues.

“I have had a few well-meaning tech retirees offer to connect me to their business colleagues when I mention my job search. It usually looks like ccing me on an email or LinkedIn thread, then I send an introduction. About half the time the person…”
“Thank you. Good suggestions. I forgot to link the slides to the link actually. Thanks for pointing that out”
“I have been using indeed but it is never popping up jobs I can actually get to, whats a good website to use? Most jobs in my area are taken up by people recomended by families so it might even be my best option to look for remote opportunities. If anyone knows anything or has any tips thay would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/Lasagna6278 [link] [comments]”
“There's a quiet assumption baked into how most of us were raised to think about a career: your value gets recognized when the right person — a manager, a boss, a teacher — decides to vouch for you. You do good work, you wait, someone with more authority notices. Jun Yuh's point in this clip is simple but worth sitting with: that mechanism used to be the only mechanism. It isn't anymore. He's built an 8M+ follower audience and a multi-million dollar business over six years, and by”
“That’s a great reminder that standing out matters. A creative job title won't replace finding the right people, but it can attract candidates who are curious, do their research, and genuinely connect with your mission. Sometimes personality gets you noticed, and substance keeps the right people around.”

I'm also from LA. How did you find these recruiters via LinkedIn? I'm job seeking still. Thank you.
“Please, please, please, please, do not pay for a certificate, and please ignore half of the product 'influencers' out there. A good number of them only did it for a year or two and/or only worked in one flavor of it (big tech vs startups), and the role is just very different depending on the company. Also, overall, the certificates are not really as helpful as you would think. Most are outdated or very theoretical and are not a real example of the job. I will be honest that the product j”
“and would you be down to hop on a user feedback call?? Would really appreciate your persecptive.”
“I'm in Customer Operations; Technical Support Manager, Director of Customer Operations (Call Centre or otherwise) etc., I usually search Indeed and LI as there are no Canadian specific boards.”
“Most tool lists for job seekers are just fifteen free things nobody had to think hard about. My filter is stricter now: a tool earns money only if it saved me time I'd have spent, removed an annoyance I actually felt, or made me better at something I do a lot. Templates failed the test for me. The screening software reads your resume, it doesn't look at it. Monthly resume builder subscriptions failed too, you finish the document in week two and pay through month four. What passed: checki”
“That list is solid, but don't forget about outreach. Building a portfolio is one thing, but getting your first job often comes down to how you market yourself. Start emailing local businesses or small shops that might need a website. Even if you have just a couple of projects, show them what you can do. Skills alone won't get you hired; you have to hustle for it.”
“I mean, based on the searches I have running in the NY metro area it certainly seems like A LOT more listings are suddenly coming up. Also, while the last few years were full of companies that seemed like they were just honeypotting resumes, I'm seeing a lot of smaller company's now who are unlikely to do that. The thing is, they're almost all AI-based roles so it seems that it will be difficult to get something without some form of experience on that.”

“I wasn’t looking for work then but was hiring. The biggest difference that I notice is the direction by which applicants miss the requirements. In 2020-2022ish, if I would post a job looking for five years of experience, I would mostly get 1-3 YOE. Now, I get people with 10-15 YOE applying for those same positions. It’s changed the kinds of conversations around hiring. Four years ago, the conversation was often about how to get someone ramped up quickly. Now the conversations are more about whet”
“It tracks intent signals on linkedin. So, it finds people posting, commenting about, or reacting to posts about services like yours, checks if they're in your icp, then reaches out if they're a fit.”
“Okay, maybe everyone already knows how to do this manually, but I’ve been using this little tool to find jobs that were actually posted recently, and it’s been pretty useful. You put in the role, location, level, and how recent you want the posting to be, and it builds searches across Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby, etc. https://jobwizard.ai/fresh-job-search-tool I mostly use the 24h and 72h options because I’m tired of opening a “new” listing and realizing it has already been sitting there f”
“I was scrolling through listings yesterday and saw one that advertised flexible start times between 8 and 9am as a major benefit. Like they wanted applause for letting people show up within a one hour window. Another one bragged about letting employees leave early on their birthday. Once a year. If it falls on a workday. It feels like employers are repackaging the bare minimum and calling it generous. Saw another place list on time payment of wages as a perk. Thats literally the law. They were a”
“Hey everyone, Apart from LinkedIn, where else do you look for visa-sponsored jobs? I'm planning a global job search, so recommendations from any country are welcome. If you've had success with a particular job board, company career page, recruiter, or any other source, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. Which sources have given you the best response rate? Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/Both_Television_4231 [link] [comments]”
“"Every job market" is certainly not cooked. Cushy desk work is cooked. Many big tech companies doubled and tripled their headcount over the past 10 years. Once the inevitable pullback/correction came, everyone lost their minds that high-paying, do-little, desk work is contracting. Medical, air traffic control, trucking, police, military, trades, construction, and on and on continue to offer solid careers. But people have experienced lifestyle creep and demand to send emails for $150k.”

“My manager just asked me to install a basic Chrome extension to automate sending 100 LinkedIn connection requests a day for our company outreach. I am really uncomfortable with this because I’ve heard LinkedIn is permanently banning people for using these cheap browser bots. This is my personal, professional profile and I don’t want to lose it just to hit a company quota. Are there any actual safe ways to automate LinkedIn, or should I refuse to do this? submitted by /u/curacland [li”
“I've been thinking about the future of student experience and hiring. Most students struggle to gain meaningful experience before graduating, while startups constantly have problems they don't have the time or resources to solve. What if founders could post real (non-confidential) business or technical challenges for students to work on? Students could form teams, collaborate, build solutions, and create a portfolio based on **proof of work** instead of just resumes or grades. It feels l”

“im graduating in may 2027 with a stats and data science degree and am planning on applying to jobs now. where exactly do i look on them? i tried searching on linkedin but the word filtering just gives me jobs that i cannot apply for. just curious if there's any sites out there that i could use. thank you! submitted by /u/Fast_Performer_1126 [link] [comments]”
“I feel like linked in premium is more about cross networking with other potential colleagues what do you think?”
“One of the biggest issues I face as someone actively looking for a job is finding the right jobs. I get so many jobs on LinkedIn, but going through each job to find the experience required or the skills was a task. Lately i came across this tool on Instagram which made searching for jobs at least super easy. It fetches me jobs across LinkedIn, Naukri, Foundit, career pages, etc submitted by /u/WelcomeOk913 [link] [comments]”
“Thanks, this is really helpful! Never seen anyone suggest 2nd degree connects.”
“Sankey: https://i.imgur.com/b4Ll1gj.png I see lots of Sankey diagrams with 1000 applications and a 1% hit rate, so I went a different route! I found every personal contact that made sense, looking for 1st and 2nd degree connections at tier 1 tech companies, and went only for referrals. This was actually pretty laborious and socially uncomfortable for me but it worked great: I reached out to 28 people for 10 eventual referrals, 8 of which got me in the door past the resume screen, and got 2 offer”
“Genuine question for this sub — would you actually use a platform where: - You create an anonymous profile (no name, no photo) - Companies see your skills and experience only - They have to message YOU with salary upfront - You decide who gets to know your identity I've been thinking about how broken the current model is (we all know it) and wondering if flipping it entirely would actually work in practice. The main objections I can think of: - Companies won't bother unless the talent po”
“Yeah that nuance isn’t reflected in the data but on a whole I’ve seen that to be true with the PMs I work with. Not all hiring managers approach it that way, but plenty do.”
“Yeah 2023-2024 were terrible. It’s slightly better now but still rough out there. That TrueUp report is a subset. It says UK has 434 jobs yet my report shows over 1,600. That’s a huge delta. I wish they were clearer that their data intentionally excludes companies hiring for product roles (they have their own rationale for this).”
“I think limiting how many applications each person can make in a day is better realistically a human wouldn't send more than 10 maybe 20 applications in a day, beyond that its spam same with job listings, I think if a company puts up a job listing and never hires anyone it should be liable to pay a small tax that'd go to bolstering unemployment benefits or something scaled to how many applicants they've turned down”
“CEOs should have to pay 1k per day after two weeks to prevent them from leaving up ads for non-existent jobs just so they can make it look like their company is doing well.”
“Last jobs I got were all through indeed. This time around I only got stuff on LinkedIn.”
“What are you thinking of doing? I’m starting to consider retraining, as much as I don’t want to, marketing doesn’t seem fun anymore and I’m starting to resent it just because of all the take home interview projects and ridiculous job specs”
“Back in the day you could get jobs on there, and then they laid off all their staff and it became useless overnight.”
“I thoroughly believe that Indeed is only used to collect data and personal info. It's almost entirely ghost job posts.”
“Congrats. I’ve always wanted to take on LinkedIn, but never sure what the right approach would be. I like this aggregate and apply flow.”
“I've spent a ton of time honing it primarily with the assistance of AI. The headline is very valubable on LinkedIn. Metrics even ones that bullshitty are neccesary (deceased X by 40%). Keyword stuffing but in controlled and targeted manner. One thing I have noticed is that I always have a spike after I made an edit even if minor. Modified last week - 3 recruiter calls as a result. Edit fairly regularly as it seems LinkedIn rewards changes. I am passively looking for a role but this is the mo”
“i’d use something like this if it actually reduced the ghosting. the swipe part makes sense to me, but the hard part is getting enough restaurants and enough good candidates on it at the same time.”
