“I got a massage 6 days ago and I’m dealing with weakness/soreness on the right side in my traps and lats. It feels difficult to hold my right shoulder back with proper posture and it keeps caving forward if I’m not actively thinking about keeping it back lol. I asked for firm pressure but not deep tissue or anything. She worked out a lot of knots on those muscles which was not uncomfortable or painful during the massage. The massage felt great, and I felt fine directly after, the weakness didn’t”

“Had a great massage Saturday after teaching group fitness classes and got great relief from some shoulder issues I’ve been having (right side). Sunday was a day off. Got back to things on Monday (.easy classes). Tuesday I taught a higher intensity strength class and now the long head of my tricep is extremely sore (on the same right side of the sore shoulder). Shoulder still feels great. Could the massage have worked things out so that my tricep was able to work properly and I’ve just got some e”

“New massage therapist here - I have been licensed for two months, working in a day spa. I am having a hard time giving firm or deep pressure. I have talked to classmates, teachers and other massage therapists - the answer is always body mechanics, and to "just go for it, don't be scared ". None of this is working. I feel like it's more of a mental block. I get into my stance, but when I go to apply pressure, it's like my body (nervous system maybe?) just won't allow it.”

“I’m just now starting my career as a massage therapist and I’m feeling lots of aching in my wrists and a popping in my thumb. I try to use my forearms, base of my palms & try to not use my thumbs or fingers much but I’m now feeling it in my wrist / palm….. any suggestions on what I could do to help ? Thank you ! Also I didn’t post this on r/massage therapists bc i haven’t commented enough to post :/ submitted by /u/donkey_kick69 [link] [comments]”

“Hi! This might be a silly question but recently I’ve been wondering how important it is to have soft hands/ skin if you work as a massage therapist. I rock climb and often have calluses/ torn skin on my hands and I was wondering if that would negatively impact the quality of a massage submitted by /u/clarence_zz [link] [comments]”

“A little background info on me, I work construction and have been working out 4 days a week and have had some bad muscle tightness so I went to my chiropractor and they offer massage therapy. I got an hour long deep tissue massage. Today I am so sore, is this normal? submitted by /u/beardedevil702 [link] [comments]”

“I am a client, not a practitioner. I've been looking into getting a massage for chronic pain and I found one that has really good reviews but the bruising looks a bit extreme. Is this a normal amount or excessive? I want to see someone who practices safely. Their website does not state any techniques that they use submitted by /u/_insomniac_dreamer [link] [comments]”

“Was wondering if anyone else dealt with this. I been working for about three years, it started July 3rd, I had gotten a deep tissue massage and I think the lady might have pressed on the inside of my elbow. I left bruised on my bicep area. Has anyone dealt with this and how is the recovery, it is getting better. I also dont know if its from working out and not doing proper stretching before a push day, maybe elbow flexion at work, or also maybe elbows that flare in while sleeping? Could use some”

“First off I have a super sensitive body, but that meant I went into school being very observant and protective. But when you are let loose to give a massage to a fellow student on your fourth day of class, it’s really possible not to have the best body mechanics. I definitely wasn’t squaring my hips and doing appropriate stances. What started out as a 2 inch patch of burning nerve skin on my upper thigh has turned into an entire thigh on fire that doesn’t want to touch skin or clothes at the end”

“Went to a new massage therapist because the place I've been going to for years closed. Therapist is not gentle, no matter how often I asked them to ease up. This was their attempt at cupping. 3 DAYS AGO. This is my upper bicep/shoulder. submitted by /u/audible_narrator [link] [comments]”

“Hello, English isn't my first language. Ever since I was very little, I've given my family and friends back massages. I didn't do it because I actually enjoyed giving them since my wrists and hands hurt way too easily but anybody I've given a massage to has said how my touch is "different and/or special." Of course, when I was a kid, I just loved hearing praises so I continued to do it, plus the relaxed expressions on their faces always cheered me up as well. But later”

“After day 3 of massage school, I’ve developed a pretty significant burning sensation in the tip/pad of my dominant thumb. We only spent about 2 hours doing hands-on work yesterday, mostly effleurage. I’ve worked at a computer for 30 years. I did have carpal tunnel type symptoms many years ago, but they’ve been gone for probably 25 years. Back then I got past it with carpal solution night bandages and by backing off activities that irritated it, like grip strengthening or holding the handles on t”

“I got my first deep tissue massage in a while about a month ago. My problem area was my upper back. My masseuse was working my lower back pretty intensively - I could tell I was probably tighter down there than I expected when she started working so it felt kind of nice initially. However, that portion of my back has been hurting ever since that appointment. This is well beyond that deep tissue soreness you get for a few days after the massages I can feel it when I’m walking or standing, can fee”
