“I recently decided to make the transition from middle school science/math intervention to HS math. I know there's some stuff I need to reteach myself, especially with upper grades materials. What materials did you use to help you prepare for the test? I've passed all my praxis…”

“MS math (6-8) here. I already asked over on r/mathteachers and got mixed answers. I'm looking for a bigger sample size. Has anyone here had experience with the i-Ready math curriculum and materials associated with it and would like to share their opinions? I don't mean the…”

Has anyone here had experience with the i-Ready math curriculum and materials associated with it and would like to share their opinions? I don't mean the i-Ready website and that whole... mess. I mean the full on math curriculum. Any input is appreciated! submitted by /u/Vnightpersona [link] [comments]”

“You're welcome :) good luck to you and your students! Students get more fluid if they can "see" it. For a question like, "what multiplies to 12", they could imagine (or draw) 12 dots. How many ways can they arrange them into a rectangle? 3x4, 2x6, 1x12”

“Agreed. There is a reason this test in particular has a much higher score requirement to pass than the ELA, Science, and SS Middle Level Certification. Math is 173, ELA and Science 156, SS 150. The state wants its math teachers to know how to do math AND how to teach.”

“Are you overthinking & over complicating the math questions due to your math major? It’s possible that you’re reading too much into the questions based on your deeper understanding of the concepts.”

“I’m taking the Praxis 5165 (Math)this weekend and have been using Mometrix to study. I’ve been scoring pretty well on the Mometrix practice tests, but I didn’t do nearly as well on the official ETS practice test that came with my registration. For those who have taken the Praxis 5165, did you find Mometrix to be a reliable study resource? Were its practice questions similar to the actual exam, or did you feel the ETS practice test was a better representation of what you saw on test day? I’d love”

“I am switching to Math Nation for middle school, and I have the teacher's edition, student edition and independent skills practice book. For anyone who has used this curriculum, do you have recommendations on how to use the three together? I'm getting acquainted with it and trying to figure out pacing and how to use the books together for lessons, homework, etc. My classes are an hour and a half, so that is another change for me this year (instead of typical one hour classes). I don'”

“i plan on studying for the 5581 for praxis in the state of missouri. just checked, and the state of missouri is not eligible for the Free After 3 program at ALL, and i'm not in the mood to pay 130 each for a retake. i find it insane that praxis is so costly for educators, when i already completed a degree in the subject i want to teach (history/social studies) and now i have to pay 130 each retake JUST to retake a test on a subject i'm already knowledgeable in, and afterwards, i have to”

“:) Yes this is a good point. The Tom Lehrer song goes into an example of the algorithm in base 8. With my own kids we went through a Powers of 10 style representation from universe scale down to Planck length scale with the decimal places to get a feel for why the compact log N representation is important. But my point is that when teaching kids, it's important to realize that place value systems are about writing or representing numbers not numbers themselves. None of the ring structure on”

“Link: https://futurism.com/future-society/professors-incoming-students-dont-understand-math I'm just a student, but this is genuinely insane to me that professors are having to teach MIDDLE SCHOOL math. Are there no standards for college admission anymore? How are these students graduating high school? I understand it can be inequitable, but we serio”

“I’m look into Praxis prep options rn and trying to figure out which platforms are actually worth paying for. From what I’ve seen so far: Study.com - Official ETS partner - Upfront diagnostic helps identify weak areas fast - Full-length practice tests seem closest to the actual exam format - Better for people who want a more guided and targeted study plan Mometrix -very comprehensive”

“5th grade teacher here. A parent asked me to recommend a summer math workbook for her rising 6th grader (who struggles a bit in Math). Anyone have any workbooks they would recommend? Edited to add: I’m looking for workbooks, not online practice. Our parents are concerned about screen times (at least for learning programs)”
