“So my baby is EBF and I only ever really pump when I'm away from my baby or if I feel engorged. I have an MRI coming up and wont be able to feed her for 24 hours because of the contrast dye, so I've been trying to pump a bit but I'm literally getting maybe a quarter of an oz out…”
“LO is 7w, latch looks fine but is incredibly painful (pain is basically constant, while feeding is the worst but also between feedings there is pain). I believe it’s a lot of friction pain from her tongue/bottom jaw. Have worked w IBCLC, OB, chiropractor. Problem is LO latches…”

“I have awful nipples vasospasm on my left nipple that always occurs early in the mornings (4 am - 7 am) and lasts hours where I cannot fall back asleep. It is shooting sharp burning pain deep in my breast. I always put a heating…”
“My baby is 1, we have been EBF since day 1. Currently I’m pregnant and breastfeeding really hurts and it’s very uncomfortable. She is usually on the boob multiple times at night. We never tried a dummy but now that I’m really uncomfortable I’d like to try although it might be too late. What’s the best dummy to replace the boob? submitted by /u/Excellent-Art6744 [link] [comments]”
“I've tried to find answers about this online (or maybe simply solidarity?) but genuinely can find none. Does nobody else find it ridiculously painful to feed using a nipple shield? I believe its because my baby latches only onto the sticking out 'teat' of the shield, so that just compresses the breast tissue thats been tucked into the pain, causing a very painful suction achey hickey type pain the entire duration of the feed. Ive tried to get my baby to latch deeper on the shield, wi”
“I am 2 days postpartum, my daughter and I came home today and I DREAD every single feed. Nursing hurts so bad and I keep getting blisters (I’ve found doing a good saline soak and scrub really helps). But I think I’ve determined that my baby just has a really shallow latch because my nipples always have the lipstick shape when she’s done nursing. I have big breasts (I was a G cup before pregnancy) and extra big areolas. I think my anatomy is partly what’s preventing her from getting a good latch.”
“We had a tough breastfeeding journey. Bleeding nipples, poor milk transfer, three specialists before the second month, meds, endless tears - the works. I managed to primarily breastfeed/pump for the first 7 months, but after going back to work I just couldn’t keep it up. My already-low milk supply tanked, and nothing I did (and I did everything) got it back up. For the last few months, up to her first birthday, I only latched her once a day. Not sure how much she was getting at that point, but I”
“I've been struggling with breastfeeding since my baby was born 7 weeks ago. It's been a very rocky ride. Let's just say I have a toxic relationship with it. I'm still having latching issues, even though I've been to lactation support groups 3 times now (they're weekly). After the group I feel better and enthusiastic, but then I get home, where I have to do it all on my own, and all that good feeling goes down the drain... Sometimes he latches well and sleeps for 2+ hours”

I have an MRI coming up and wont be able to feed her for 24 hours because of the contrast dye, so I've been trying to pump a bit but I'm literally getting maybe a quarter of an oz out of each breast. I never had an issue with this before and my LO is almost 4 months old. I've been pumping since she was around one week old and even if I wasnt getting a lot I was getting 1-4 oz in betwee”
“My second baby is 13 months old and we are having issues with breastfeeding. Last week, I was out of town for three nights a for a work trip. When I returned, baby stayed latched almost the entire night. I’m not sure if it was just how much he nursed when I got home or if my nipples somehow became fragile again during my time away, but my nipples are pretty damaged and they are not getting better. The pain level is similar to the first few weeks postpartum which is shocking to me. I’m floored th”
“LO is 7w, latch looks fine but is incredibly painful (pain is basically constant, while feeding is the worst but also between feedings there is pain). I believe it’s a lot of friction pain from her tongue/bottom jaw. Have worked w IBCLC, OB, chiropractor. Problem is LO latches perfect when they’re around. Mentally (and physically bc the pain is so bad) I’m at a point where I think we need to quit but I truly do not want to. Just ISO some reassurance we can work through it and any options you’ve”
“Finding this so difficult, I’m a FTM and had no idea breastfeeding could Have so many problems. I have never got a latch and proper feed with my guy. I was getting some progress with the sns tube at 6 weeks and after he’s happy to suck on my breast now (instead of clawing at it) but since his nutrition is primarily from combo fed bottle I always thought his flutter sucking was just bec he was full but now I think or maybe realise he doesn’t know how to get milk from my boob…just finished an sns”
“I’ve been ebf my daughter for 11 months. I’ve never had any problems with pain even when she first began teething. But now randomly it freaking hurts. It’s like she doesn’t get a wide latch anymore or something. It doesn’t feel like she’s purposefully biting me but man does it hurt. I had no intention of stopping breastfeeding until now. she has rejected formula. I’m not sure if it’s the bottle or the milk but she’s had formula bottles before, though it’s been a few months. Meaning I have to hop”
“My doula suggested I try nipple shields because my nipples are sore/bruised due to my 3-week-old’s poor latch (shallow). I have only got her to do a good latch a handful of times; majority of the time breastfeeding is painful. I waited for them to heal before I tried the shields and it seemed to work most of the time (filled with milk, she was able to feed comfortably). But I noticed today that I have bruises again. Questions: Can you still get bruising despite wearing the shields? Will wearing”
“Weaning was a gradual process. Immediately after last feed on the 11th I felt fine. About a week later I felt a small bit of firmness under my aerola and iced it with nurofen and it felt better after a few days but I’d say that breast still sometimes aches. Can this happen after weaning? It’s only been 2-3 days and I’d say it’s gotten better but will book into doc soon if it doesn’t fully go away. I am 12 months pp. submitted by /u/Commercial_One5048 [link] [comments]”
“My baby is a little over 3 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. For 3 weeks I have suffered through immense nipple pain and trauma. It truly felt like my nipples were being sliced off every time my baby latched. On top of this I had bloody wounds & scabs on my nipples causing so much anxiety and apprehension every time it was time to feed my baby. Clusterfeeding was a nightmare. I spent so many days just crying and dreading feeding my baby. While this was happening, I tried everything. I tri”
“Help! I am stuck in a bad cycle. I was an under supplier to start due to some birth complications, so baby was latching inefficiently and my nipples are sore and cracked now. I’ve been feeding + nursing and have been getting my supply up thankfully but my nipples are so sore now. I am also experiencing vasospasms - my nipples turn white and slightly misshapen and radiate pain after feeding. No tongue tie for baby. I am using heat and wool pads for the vasospasms which helps that lingering pain,”
“My LO is 7 weeks and she is EBF. I have really big breast and per my OB really soft ones too. From day 1 I have had pain with nursing. On and off but almost always need to take pain meds. The first 2 weeks i struggled with cracks, fixed that. The following week LO would suck strong on one side and normal on other! This got better with pumping which i assume its clog? I dont know! Now i have real bad pain post feed in deep breast tissue! Any one with similar stories? I feel like a failure of a mo”
“My baby is 5 weeks old. Due to a pretty traumatic birth and a very painful first latch, we gave her formula on the first day. Since then I kept trying to breastfeed despite excruciating pain, while also supplementing with formula as I could never breastfeed for long enough due to the pain. The last 2 weeks, the pain has somehow resolved completely, and breastfeeding is a lot more comfortable. BUT now my baby doesn’t seem to want to latch - she will latch, suck a little, unlatch, then latch again”
“I’m almost 4 month postpartum and within the last week or so I have been noticing an intense, borderline painful letdown sensation. I haven’t been able to really feel my letdown since the early newborn stages but it went away within a month and even then it wasn’t as strong/ painful as it is now . I do have a bit of an oversupply (about 8-12 extra ounces a day) and I think my supply has regulated but I really can’t say. I do feel engorged in the morning from the side my baby doesn’t nurse on thr”
“My soon to be 8 month old baby is a piranha and my sore nipples have had ENOUGH! I tell my baby that it hurts me and to stop but he doesn’t understand (which I’m not expecting him to anyway) so sometimes I just stop feeding him briefly but we do co sleep at night and it’s annoying to have to move away from him when I’m just trying to get some sleep. Any recommendations on how I can get him to stop biting or is this just a phase that will eventually stop? I’m really trying my best to get to at le”
“Writing this after a huge meltdown. I hate my breasts! I have been told to hold my nipple and areola together and take that to baby's mouth by the nurses in the hospital( not even sandwiching), according to them my nipple isn't big enough, my breast is huge ( well everything is wrong with my breasts according to the nurses) The LC says my let down is too fast so I should pump before feeds. We tried different positions but my baby is still comfortable with me pinching the areola and holdi”
“both a yay moment and a oh no moment lol! im so proud of her but one of my nipples is getting really sore 3 days in kinda like how it was even with the shields when she was a few days old. i have flat nipples so she couldn't latch without the shields at first she would just rub her face on my nipples. now it gets better as she feeds and i feel fine already (started typing when she latched and i was literally holding my breath in pain but now it painless?) so basically when she first latches”
“My son is 10 days away from being 5 months and still his latch is bad, he has a high palate and it hurts so much to latch him, it gets manageable throughout the feed but still hurts. My nipples are always red raw and my boobs are so itchy because of the trauma to my nipples, nothing helps and because I stopped using nipple shields for a bit, he refuses to take them anymore. At the start I was going fully without, then the pain got too much and I used them just enough to get the pain gone so I co”
“I am in a state of panic right now over the abrupt 180 our breastfeeding journey has taken in the last few days. My 10.5M old is mostly EBF (occasional bottle from pumped milk, no formula) and everything has been going great. He eats 5X a day still including a MOTN feed--we are letting him self wean. I do feel his volume has decreased significantly if not his # of feeds. A few weeks ago his top teeth came in and since then breastfeeding has been so painful. I've tried to rotate him so he lat”
“I’m struggling to find anybody that has had the same experience breastfeeding as I have. I’d love to find out that I’m not alone. My baby was born at 37 weeks after my waters broke and a failed induction, then emergency caesarean with forceps. He had jaundice and wouldn’t latch so went on a strict formula feeding schedule. At 1.5 weeks we saw a cranial osteopath who helped to relieve some tension and then we saw an IBCLC/tongue tie practitioner at 2 weeks. She managed to finally get him latching”
“im a ftm and my daughter is now 2 weeks old❤️ i’ve been exclusively breastfeeding and it’s going very well except with the initial latch. as soon as it goes in her mouth i get that toe curling pain and then she seems to readjust herself and there is no pain at all and the session goes perfectly. nurses and lactation consultants always tell me that mine and baby’s technique is great and that i’ve basically “mastered” breastfeeding, it’s just been kinda hard knowing i’m about to get intense pain f”
“Is it because she’s getting canines and molars?! No one warned me of this if so. The pain isn’t with EVERY nursing session, but it’s frequent and my left side is starting to not feel so good. Of course the left side is her fav lol. Nothing else has changed. Her latch still seems good. 🤷🏻♀️ submitted by /u/glittermeowsandpasta [link] [comments]”
“Okay guys… I’m 9 months PP and have been breastfeeding & pumping this whole time. I’m kind of at a point where I just want my body back to myself. My baby is also biting me which absolutely sucks. But at the same time, the thought of our last nursing sesh breaks my heart. I don’t want it to end but I’m also ready for it stop🫠 Do I need to wait until I feel absolutely ready before I wean? I just don’t want to commit to stopping and then regret it:( submitted by /u/katelynpippin [”
“For the ladies with large breasts and protruding nipples, how can I avoid nipple vasospasms? It feels like all of my bras or tanks are too tight on my nipples, smush them, and end up causing vasospams and start hurting? I end up having to just free boob in a tshirt. How will I ever be able to wear a real bra again? Maybe I just need larger sizes to accommodate my breastfeeding boob size! submitted by /u/Dazzling-Nebula540 [link] [comments]”
“Please tell me it gets easier. I constantly smell like milk, I sweat so much, my house is a mess because my baby wants to be in my boob literally 24/7. I can’t get anything done except for diaper changes. I can’t even sit and eat. I am so mentally and physically exhausted. Please tell me it gets better. Maybe leave some tips as well. submitted by /u/knitforbrains11 [link] [comments]”
“I'm 8 weeks pp and have been having a very difficult time with breastfeeding. When I get the baby to latch it hurts a lot. The worst thing is that it takes him 20-30 mins each side (an hour total) and after that I supplement with formula. Sometimes he cries and doesn't latch at all. I know I should have the patience to feed him but I honestly cannot do this for an hour every 2-3 hours without going crazy. I tried pumping using my spectra but my output is so low, like 1-1.5 oz max. I wasn”
“My babe will be 4 weeks tomorrow. The last week or so she has been extremely fussy while trying to nurse. Pretty much every time I latch her, she’ll suck for a few minutes and then begin screaming. She has milk coming out of her mouth so I don’t think it’s a frustration with not getting enough / or quickly enough. I sit her up to burp her, bicycle her legs, etc to relieve any trapped gas she might have. Has anyone experienced something similar? Feeding has become extremely stressful. I tried pum”
“FTM here. My LO is 10 days old, and I’ve been having a lot of pain with breastfeeding. I had a LC come in to help with latching, which has improved. One of the issues is that I have ginormous nipples and my baby’s mouth is still pretty small 😅. The expectation is that this will get better with time as I get the hang of positioning and LO gets bigger. However, my LC also explained that I have vasospasm, and it HURTS. After every feeding, I get shooting pain from my nipples inward, and my nipples”
“Having what I think is vasospasm as I type right now. It hurts for like 2 seconds, goes away then 5 seconds later it hurts again for hours. And when it doesn't hurt my body just anticipates for the next pain. It reminds me very much of labour contractions, which is something that traumatized me until now. It's the middle of the night and I can't sleep. I hate it so much. My baby is 10 months old now I thought by this time breastfeeding should be problem free (first child, how naive i”
