Apartment renters see roaches return after sealing a hole
Renters are frustrated by persistent cockroach infestations despite efforts to seal entry points. They describe finding nymphs in bowls and suspect the problem originates from neighboring units or shared walls, with landlords offering minimal assistance.

“So my roommates and I live in this very old building that has a roach problem. For the past few months, we ONLY saw adult German roaches. We saw one almost daily. Since then, we got our apartment sprayed a couple times, cleaned behind our fridge and stove, and got rid of any cardboard boxes or other things that could be attracting them. Now, the adults are finally gone (and have been for two weeks now), but recently we’ve been seeing a baby roach or two every few days? Is it possible that they’r”

“Hi, I just moved into a new apartment a month ago and I have since spotted these roaches randomly. Can someone please identify what kind these are? And how to deal with it. I am planning on messaging my landlady today about scheduling pest control services. I found 2 in the kitchen sink, 1 in the bathroom sink, 1 was inside the toilet and another randomly on the window treatment. Please see pictures below and advise because I’m really getting nervous. submitted by /u/Lifemustchangeid”

“I have seen about 5-7 smoky brown cockroach nymphs a week since moving into my house in June. They are not specific to any particular area in the house, I find them in all places. I am really frustrated because I've had pest control come out multiple times, in addition to spraying Ortho Home Defense and leaving glue traps, one per room at least. I am mostly finding them alive and crawling on my walls which are made of plaster. I don't know what I can do but I hate them. My neighbors say”
“So for context i’ve been living in a townhome that has four total connected units. I’ve been here a little over a year and have never seen a roach until this past weekend. No one has moved in or out recently so I spoke with management and they let me know that apparently my neighbor brought in infested furniture and called for pest control once they noticed. They have since removed the furniture. They’ve treated their unit twice and will be treating mine tomorrow. I’m not sure exactly what they’”

“I’ve been seeing roaches around my kitchen and bathroom for the past few weeks. At first it was only one late at night but then I started spotting them every few days. My landlord eventually sent someone to spray and things seemed fine for about a week but now they’re slowly coming back. I keep the apartment clean, take the trash out regularly, store food in sealed containers and don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink. The building is pretty old and there are noticeable gaps around some of the pip”

“Two nights ago I found what I’m pretty sure was an adult German roach on my bedroom wall. It scurried under my bed, but I lifted the bed and couldn’t find anything else. I killed it and deep-cleaned my room the next day, and I haven’t seen any others. We also haven’t seen any anywhere else in the house. I’m currently moving on the 3rd next month, so obviously I’m freaking out about bringing any with me. This move is completely unrelated to the newly found roach. We’ve been using cardboard boxes”

Had pest control come treat asap with alpine, gel bait, IGR, etc. Hard to tell from Google pics if it's American or oriental. Pretty confident it's not Germans having dealt with them in the past. “Hi - looking for advice. I’m moving into a brand new unit, (new construction) never lived in before. I was doing the last walk through & noticed a live (seems to be German roach) in my tub. Immediately I freaked out. Management seem to be taking this issue very seriously and reaching out to pest control to take a look and also treat my unit as precaution. Apparently my terrace door was left open (they are saying) and thinking it got in that way…unsure what to think here. I also toured other”
“I’ve been living in my complex for about six months and there were bugs that were brown and in my apartment. I couldn’t identify them as roaches, but they were small and I only have seen 1 to 2 of them . Pest control, then came in laid down more gel and some traps and I checked those traps very often and I haven’t seen any roaches or what I would think to be roaches get caught on those traps. However today, I found this bug crawling on my wall, which it’s in proximity to the bathroom and that’s”
“I’m currently looking for some advice regarding American roaches. I live in an apartment in FL and from time to time I do see the big American roaches that wander in from outside and lately it’s been raining a whole lot (typical summer in FL Ik) but the past 2 weeks I’ve seen about 3-4 American roaches in my apartment. 1 I killed with raid that was in my kitchen and didn’t think anything of it but I saw another dead one in my living room a few days ago and then the other day I’m pretty sure I sa”

“Hello! I am continuing to find roach poop in the corner of my shower door. I have cleaned my shower, my bathroom, and my entire bedroom multiple times. I've poured boiling water, vinegar, and enzymes (not at the same time) to break down the hair they eat down the drain, and I guess it isn't working. I cover my drain at night and it seems only the little ones can get through, and while I don't frequently actually see them, it grosses me out to shower where i know roaches have been scu”

“I know now this isn’t bugs coming in from neighboring units. I Woke up early for work this morning, went in the kitchen turned on the light to make coffee and breakfast and I saw a female carrying an egg sack that got spooked when it saw me and started scurrying under the dishwasher. In a panic I grabbed my can of bengal gold and sprayed her and saw her fall but then she disappeared. I then saw a small nymph not far from where she was. So I sprayed between the cracks of the dishwasher and cabine”

“I just moved into an apartment and immediately started seeing roaches in the bathroom. Landlord calls them “water bugs”, and they don’t look like German roaches. Most likely American or Oriental. I’m uncomfortable either way and have decided to move out. I never unpacked my boxes and they’ve been sitting in the apartment for 3 weeks. As I started to gather up my things, I noticed these tiny bugs under the tape of pretty much every box. Are these roach babies? Or pantry beetles that made their wa”
“(LOCATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA) I have seen a few cockroaches in my bathroom the past few days and I’m starting to get scared there’s an infestation. My apartment building had a flooding problem in the basement and shortly after that I started spotting cockroaches in my bathroom (about 1 per day). I have a big fear of cockroaches and I’m really nervous this is a serious infestation. I already deep cleaned my bathroom today. I put some advion bait in corners and spots around pipes etc. I dusted”
“I’m terrified that these are roaches, never had them or seen one before besides at an air bnb in Florida. We deep clean often, no current known leaks either. This is a sticky trap from behind the oven. Somebody else said it looks like a plant bug and two beetles but not roaches. Please give me your two cents. Plant bug makes sense as there’s a plant stand with a dozen plants on it four feet away from this trap. Located in Nebraska, U.S.A. submitted by /u/Hot_Understanding671 [link] &”
“Moved into an apartment about two months ago. Building is old. Started seeing roaches in my kitchen and bathroom… both of these rooms have walls shared with the unit next door. I’ve only seen 4 roaches and killed 3 of them. Now I am seeing little baby roaches crawling my walls. A pest company is coming to spray my apartment but what should I expect to see afterwards? How many days until they’re all dead? submitted by /u/Informal_Web1952 [link] [comments]”
“I freaked out and killed it before I could take a good picture. Been dealing with an infestation in my bathroom, I sprayed Alpine a week ago and since then I’ve seen a couple baby roaches and about 4-5 adults (some dead, some alive like this one). Just want to check that’s normal activity after spraying? I should wait before spraying more, right? I have glue traps out but have only caught 3 baby roaches in them so far. submitted by /u/roseplated [link] [comments]”
“Hello, what type of roaches are these? I moved into an apartment and saw 2 or 3 identical to the first one in the same area. About 2 of the second picture its near the room where that window is. “I found this next to our shower and I am not sure if this is roach droppings. We have been living in our apartment for over 9 months and it has always seemed very clean. We do have a leaky shower so this area tends to stay pretty wet and we have to clean the floor often. I noticed this a few weeks ago and simply cleaned it but then just noticed this again. “Found at my office in New England. I saw one small roach right by the front door months ago, but never saw another so I assumed it had wandered in from outside. But today I found this on my desk. I’m terrified of bringing them home submitted by /u/Glad_Kitchen_6234 [link] [comments]”
“Found 10-15 of these little bugs across 2 bedrooms. I separately found a clear German Nymph in the bathroom (last picture). Are the first set all early stage German roach nymphs or something different? Their antennae seem shorter but I might just be too optimistic. Are any of them different bugs than the others? We are trying to get an exterminator asap but wondering if we have one cockroach (bad), a massive roach infestation (horrific), multiple different bug infestations (bad but unsure how ba”

“I moved into my apartment almost a month ago. I found what I thought were two small dead roaches. I cleaned them up and checked behind all the appliances and deep cleaned. Thought nothing of it. I am in Florida I have an attached garage and found two new dead ones today. Then I found a live one in my entrance near the garage door that crawled under the baseboard when I turned the light on. “TLDR: American roach problem ruining my mental health. Hello I moved into a 100 year old place in coastal southern california at the end of July. This city is known for having a lot of American roaches out and about. I live on the ground floor in a 1 story duplex. I have seen a handful of adults in the house either out and about or in sticky traps since moving in. I also have caught a handful of tiny nymphs (def american) in sticky traps (never have seen them out and about). There is lots of act”
“We bought an older ground-floor apartment that was renovated around six years ago, but we now suspect some of the work may have been poorly done. We are dealing with American cockroaches that appear to be living or circulating inside the construction itself: hollow/false walls, false ceilings, bathroom cavities and possibly plumbing/drainage voids. We have already had professional pest control and extensively sealed visible gaps, but they still appear in different parts of the apartment. After t”

“I found this in my bed. It’s quite small, but I zoomed in. About a week ago, I found an exoskeleton in my bed of the same bug. ChatGPT and Gemini said it was most likely a German roach nymph. “I found this small cockroach in my bathroom and I’m trying to figure out whether it’s a German cockroach nymph or an outdoor/wood roach that wandered inside. This is the first one I’ve seen, and so far I haven’t noticed any others, droppings, egg cases, or other signs of an infestation. The insect looked dark brown/black with a more reddish-brown area near the front. I’m especially interested in whether the markings/body shape look consistent with German cockroach nymphs. “hi all, my on-campus apartment has so many american roaches. my understanding is that american roaches dont infest, they just end up getting in through pipes and under doors, so do yall have any advice on how to stop them from getting in? ive already gotten one of those silicone door sealer things (haven't installed it yet), but was wondering if there are any sprays or anything i should also get, as well as anything that can help with them getting in through the plumbing. tbh i don't rea”
“About a year ago, we had roaches and had them professionally treated. They were showing up in my bathroom, mainly the sink. I was guessing they were living in the overflow? We had to have the whole house treated because they eventually made their way to the kitchen. Now they're back, in the same bathroom and no where else in the house (yet). Why/how could they survive after a year and suddenly show up again? I thought they always had to be tracked into the house. But they seem localized to t”
