Cardholders Chasing Cashback, Fighting Nerfs
Consumers are actively optimizing their credit card portfolios to maximize cashback rewards on everyday spending like groceries, gas, and online retail. They are frustrated by card 'nerfs' (changes that reduce rewards) and constantly seeking the best combination of cards to cover their spending categories and take advantage of promotions. This involves significant effort and tracking of multiple cards and rotating categories.

“I hold the Harris Teeter World Mastercard for almost 9 months now. I saw the posts about this card being converted to Smartly, though I haven’t received any letter or email to that effect. I guess it should be coming shortly. Any idea when this…”
“Recently downgraded from chase sapphire to the free Chase freedom card. Surprisingly for no annual fee it still offers 3x on dining. So far I’ve had no luck with ubereats grocery stores that sell alcohol, like gopuff or bodegas in nyc. Any luck for anyone using the Chase freedom for meal delivery service like cookunity or freshdirect or anything on ubereats? I know the restaurant needs to be coded a certain way to get 3x. Any way to find that out? I use Amex platinum to trigger the uber credits”
“I am savings so much money on food by eating Wendy's, little Caesars, Dunkin, dominoes. This gotta be one of the best credit card offers in a while. I have 11 cards so I can get 1100 value from this promotion. I wish I was here when Newegg gift card were still buyable with Paze. submitted by /u/Prestigious-Put-6518 [link] [comments]”
“Maybe a dumb question, but find it hard to switch from Prime to using Rakuten for the points boost. The shipping costs from other stores makes it harder. Been able to put my Chewy orders through it for my cats but. Like just now I needed dish detergent but buying individual bottles from like Staples or something didn't make sense. So I'm just kind of curious, what do you use Rakuten for ? How do you make the most of Rakuten? Transferring to Bilt then after. submitted by /u/k0”
“I use the Venmo debit card and all my expenses go on that first until my Venmo is out or to less than $20. Rinse and repeat”
Yep, took a few days for me, got $10 credit and 10x points.
“3% general card (with Samsung Pay). Surely that will be a temporary thing, or that would be honestly insane. That is the RH Gold card without the "AF".”
“Your savor is a mastercard (and might soon be a discover), so what do you use at costco? I'd recommend against the schwab investor card - amex acceptance will be lower, it only gets 1.5%, and it has a FTF. I'd recommend a visa for costco and a flat rate. The fidelity card fits the bill, comes with GE/precheck, and has no FTF”
“There is going to be a good deal for giftcards.com on capital one shopping in a couple days. I’d probably like to spend $1-$2k on this but does AMEX allow a purchase like this to count toward their SUB? I have the blue cash preferred but I don’t want to trigger something or be ineligible for the SUB. submitted by /u/addicted2_urmom [link] [comments]”
“who knows! I am going to PC my UCR to a CCR in October, it'll be interesting to see if it's a 4.5% CCR or a 5.25% CCR. features like no FTF seem to follow BOA cards, so maybe the grandfathered tier bonus will follow as well.”
“Awesome, glad to hear it! Good for you and sounds like yall are doing great! I apologize for my knee-jerk reaction, based on the reason people normally ask this question”
“Nice list. Most would realize that credit card offerings are dynamic and to confirm offerings directly with the issuer. Any static list like this kindly provided by a fellow card tracker is much appreciated as a starting point. Thank you @ UniversityThese3363 .”
“Chase ink cash/unlimited, $0 annual feel and 100k sign up bonus. Cash out out for $1000”
“Get the paypal debit card, it's 5% cashback at costco and walmart. Caveat, the cashback after august will only be redeemable for gift cards or paypal checkout, but that isn't a huge deal unless they nerf the rate. All you need is a paypal account, then request a physical debit card for it if you like. Set it to autoreload from your regular debit card and it will reload instantly (like ive done it seconds before checkout at costco.) Just set it to reload more than you will typically be sp”
“I find it less complex. I have a portfolio and a credit card for my lifestyle spend. That’s it.”
“This is a solid, well rounded setup. The CCC feels out of place though. I’d recommend putting dining spend on your Freedom Flex or Bilt. Also, Chase’s travel protection on their business cards are limited to business use only and they’ve been know to enforce that, so if you rely on those protections consider getting another travel card like the CSP”
“You need a business charge card like Plat or Venture X. Traditional cards with a credit line seem like they will not support the spend you need”

“There are generally three major flavors of revolving card products: - Traditional credit cards — fixed credit limit, usually can’t exceed it (sometimes will be charged a fee if you try). - Charge cards — no published credit limit (“no preset spending limit”), purchasing power fluctuates dynamically based on information available to the issuer (e.g., income, payment history, credit report data, etc.). - Flexible spend credit cards — a hybrid between traditional credit cards and charge cards, have”
“It's legal and doctorofcredit.com is legit. Personally I find its more work than it's worth chasing bonuses and points these days but I never really got into churning anyway. Btw, the fees associated with manufactured spending usually make it not worth it unless you are doing a bonus.”
“No this is all completely legal. What he's doing with the prepaid cards is called manufactured spending. You can read up about it over on r/churning .”
“Capital One Savor card gives 3% cashback on grocery stores, dining, entertainment and streaming services. It's also Discover (or about to be Discover)”
“Consider these cards with no AF or FTF: WF Autograph for travel with no AF or FTF. 3x rewards on dining, travel, gas, transit, streaming. You can redeem points for statement credit 1:1. US Bank Altitude Connect 4X travel, gas, EV charging, 2x grocery, dining, No AF or FTF. Need US Bank acct for 1:1 cpp cashback, or you can get gift cards for 1:1 redemption.”
“Amex Biz platinum is 2x on construction supplies too FYI. Realistically, ignore talk about signup bonuses. That’s for lower spend levels. People who say that are justifiably viewing it through a more normal lens where a 200k signup bonus is 10x what someone will earn in a year. You, at your spend, will get that every other week and the faster you optimize for pts the better. You can chase signup bonuses for sport later. For you, spend limits / velocity of signups will be the main holdback. Biz c”
“With this level of spend, you not only need to consider reward multiplier, but also credit limit and reward limit. A flat unlimited reward card is likely your best choice. BoA PR can be as high as 2.625% unlimited. It is also easy to get high limit with BoA by consolidating CL from multiple cards.”
“Robinhood Gold = 3% Cash Back on everything and 5% Cash Back Visa their travel portal. It's my go-to daily driver and I love it!”
“Depends how cash flow looks and how they value points. Seems plausible both ways depending on the details.”
“Appreciate it, I think I’ll probably go for the US Bank Cash+ and watch and see if it affects my credit any since it’s a fairly short history and maybe go for an Elan down the road to catch more categories.”
Hello, I am new to this. How often can you buy Dunkin gift cards?
“$12 per transaction or total? As min is $10 per transaction to trigger the reward”
“Robinhood Gold. 3% cash back across the board with 5% cash back on travel through their portal. The only card you'll need. It's my go-to daily driver!”
“I may be wrong, but I read the Citi double cash is one of the few that counts bill payments/loans as purchases and not cash advances. I currently pay my car insurance with (non-rewards) credit card with no fees.”
“Didn’t see cell coverage. Good call on the AAA 5% grocery card. That’s been added to the plan”
“Probably better to get a debit card that’s either from a local credit union or which supports retail cash deposit like Capital One”
“I was expecting to get two smartly's from my two Kroger cards and product change at least one but I guess not. We will see”
“I feel like my current lineup covers my spend pretty well and while I like the idea of getting a new shiny card, Im not sure where or how I could optimize my spend more than I already do. Or am I not doing it right? I know some of yall have 10+ cards. Blue cash preferred - grocery, streaming and gas citi custom cash - 5x on restaurants hyatt - keeper card and 1x on all non travel Amazon - 5x on amazon No airline card. I dont travel enough for it to make sense and if I'm only going to get 1x”
“Getting back in the credit card game after a few years on the sideline. Put together a list of cards based on my bills and wanted to run it by everyone to see if i am missing anything. Starting with just monthly expenses and will branch out to travel cards, etc later. ~rent - Bilt - for rent cash back ~car loan - Citi double cash - 2% back on loans ~student loan - Citi double cash - 2% back on loans ~car insurance - Citi double cash - 2% back ~renter insurance - Citi double cash - 2% back ~elect”
“I don’t think the Blue Cash Everyday is a good choice here. Your Savor is better for groceries, and the BCE’s gas category is quite restrictive: excludes wholesale club, superstore, and convenience store gas stations, EV charging, and all non-US gas stations. I also wouldn’t go for the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Your Savor already covers dining at 3%, and there are too many 2% flat rate cards out there to bother with 1.5%. From your list I would definitely pick the Fidelity Rewards. But I think I’”
“Fidelity Visa will be best option between the 3 card options. You will have a solid duo with a floor of 2%. Savor cover groceries and dining at 3% beating blue cash. Freedom unlimited doesn't even come close except for drugstores and Chase travel portal.”
“When I got “into the credit card game” a few months after getting my first card I also decided that I would simply adopt a single ecosystem that gave me most optimal multipliers. I made a spreadsheet and compared the effective AFs of each ecosystem with their different travel cards (ex: Citi with all three Stratas, Chase with the CSP, CSR, and both at the same time, etc.) and I was a bit frustrated cuz at that time none of the ecosystems stuck out to me. I decided I’ll feel it out and honestly i”
“The fact they not only don't prominently say that in marketing material leaves a bad taste. Since they are holding the points for two cycles, there's no way to know their actual value. People have reported but they say only might be lesser value. Meanwhile, the second I trip a sub at NFCU I can redeem them. I see nothing valuable about their checking account. They must spend millions on Rube Goldberg machines like $20 SUB on Shield if you can remember to make monthly charges.”
“I’ve been happy with the card. I use it heavily. I’ve also had to deal with customer service for a chargeback and they were easy to deal with.”
“Capital One Savor is good for now. You don’t need an ecosystem if you’re doing cashback. Just go wherever the cashback is that fits your needs.”
“It's normally when your statement close that you see the 5% cashback. It's a 1% for a minute, but it gives you the rest. At least that's what it seems to be.”
“Just curious who else puts a super high income when applying for credit cards for the hopes of getting a higher credit limit? submitted by /u/ObjectLow2856 [link] [comments]”
“Okay bet, thank you! I was reading so many posts that got into percentages and how much the points are worth based on what you use them for and I don’t know if it’s because I’m really tired but it was just not making sense to me lol”
“Cash back. Whether it’s into a Chase bank account or as a statement credit, it’s just cash back to you. Very simple and easy.”
“Categorical cards: maximum rewards at the expense of playing a game. One card: average rewards at the convenience of a predictable and flat rewards rate. No game to be played.”
“I need help deciding between using my points on cash back or pay yourself back. I’ve been reading more about it today but I’m a little confused because I’m new to chase, I’ve only been using discover for the last 5 years lol. Basically, what would you rather use 24k points for? The pay yourself back program or get it as cash back? I’d appreciate any advice! submitted by /u/mind_goblin_77 [link] [comments]”

“I have a total of 6 cards. A rotation of 5. Amex everyday (which I don't use because it doesn't have cashback.) Amex blue cash everyday, Chase Prime Visa, and I am a Amazon Prime member, two citi custom cash cards, and a citi double cash card. The Chase Prime Visa I always use for Amazon purchases and whenever they have a 5% bonus category special, like for gas. The Amex Blue Cash Everyday I use for the 3% online purchases. And when Chase is not running a gas special, I use that one for”
