Parents Fearful of Baby’s Feeding Changes

Mothers are experiencing anxiety and sadness as their babies transition away from breastfeeding, questioning if they're doing things right and fearing the emotional impact on both parent and child. This reflects a common parental worry about milestones and letting go.

Gave birth to my second baby yesterday. At the hospital breast feeding was amazing, no issues whatsoever. This afternoon he’s cluster feeding and wasn’t getting enough. I tried so hard and I made the decision to supplement formula, which was super hard for me, but…

I have an 8 week old who has started to latch for a couple minutes then start crying and unlatching. It all started when I started a new medication for my PPA/PPD and it completely killed my milk supply. I had no clue that my milk supply dropped because at the time I was hardly ever pumping and was an oversupplier. He started getting fussier (as an already fussy baby) around 5-6 weeks old and I just told myself he was in the peak of his crying stage. He ended up with crystals in his urine indica

Today I made a bottle for my 10 day old newborn. We wondered if he was going through a growth spurt because he drinks 3 oz bottles every 3 hours. He still seemed to be hungry after 3 oz so we upped to 4. Today when making his bottle, it looked mixed like normal but I didn’t see the powder drop down at first unless it just pre mixed it too fast? An hour and a half later, my newborn is still showing hunger cues. We made a 2 oz bottle and he drank an oz. He seems wide awake and not tired. Keeps che

My daughter is almost 2.5 years old and tonight we sent our milk back to the moon. Currently laying next to her after a very emotional bedtime and I am really feeling low. Almost like she seems so betrayed by me 😢 I nursed my son until 2 but he weaned easily and she is my last baby. I can’t believe this day has come. Any mamas had a really hard time with emotions around weaning even if you are proud of how the journey has gone? submitted by /u/trixr4kids93 [link] [comments]

I keep seeing that I need to transition my LO from a bottle to a straw cup when they are 1 and we complete the whole milk transition. Is this really necessary? I can understand using a straw cup during the day but what about a bottle of whole milk at night/morning? I feel like pulling the plug on the bottle is rushing them to grow up but, of course, I want to do whatever is best for my child. Any thoughts on this? submitted by /u/Western_Clock_259 [link] [comments]

Seeking advice/shared experiences!! Starting yesterday, LO has started refusing bottles. Solids? Houses them. Drinks from a syringe and happily breastfeeds.. but screams as soon as the bottle comes to mouth. I tried open cup, which we previously LOVED every day, but we screamed at that tonight too and threw it. We have 0 teeth at almost 11 months so I’ve just been anxiously waiting for them to start. My baby just reached 10 months and she has been exclusively breastfed her whole life (directly fed, no pumping except some in the first two weeks to get my supply up). I have hoped to breastfeed her for as it is working for us both. My partner and I are now planning on trying to conceive baby#2 once our little one has reached a year old, for a variety of reasons. I worry my supply will drop off quickly, especially as I had HG in my last pregnancy and most likely will get sick again. (I am workin

We introduced our baby to the bottle at 3 weeks and she happily took it until she hit the 3 month milestone where she started getting distracted and having a hard time nursing. During that time, I focused on fixing that, nursing her when she woke up and was drowsy and not yet distracted we also were traveling a bit. After a short break from the bottle during that time, she didn’t want it anymore. We have now been working on it for about a month slowly re-introducing it, building a positive assoc

I’m writing with this with voice to text, so please bear with me - my daughter has had a feeding a version for, I think the last three months. She’s currently six months old and every single feed every day, every night, all through the week, every month has been just difficult and I know that it hopefully won’t be forever but I’m freaking exhausted. She never shows any hunger cues and even when she does what I think our hunger cues, I think I’m possibly getting it mixed up with teething. I’m jus

How do I get through this without ruining our breast-feeding journey? For the last three days he’s probably had 3 to 4 bottles a day whereas he used to only get one every few days. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. So some backstory this is my third kid and my first kid that I’ve actually been able to exclusively breast-feed, and I worked so hard to get here. 10+ LC visits, full commitment. Hello everybody, just need to vent really quickly. My son (5 months) has been in day care for a month now. I am a just enougher and leave him with 2x5oz bottles of breast milk. That lasts him while im at work just fine when his primary is there. The issue is when his primary is gone. The secondary keeps giving him his bottles erratically, which is leading to me leaving work early AND him certainly being overfed and uncomfortable. Today it happened again. He got his first bottle at 10:30 like he

Hi everyone, I will be traveling away from my will-be-11 month old for 5 days in about a month. Some background: We EBF until 1 month ago, at which I started combo feeding due to some biting that got really bad when she was sick/congested. Since then I have only been nursing 2-3 times/day, usually for any night wakes, the first feed of the day, and maybe one other time per day. Thankfully she loves her kendamil and takes it without issue so I'm no longer worried about being away from her in

Hi folks :) I’m EBF my first baby, he stopped taking bottles around week 6/7 so we are just vibing. I’m going back when he’ll be 11 months. He’s only just started solids this week, so I’m not sure what kind of an eater he’ll be by the end of the year. I’ve read that feeding is down to around 3-4x per day by 11-12 months to encourage eating. I live near the job site, and could conceivably have baby brought to me at lunch or at some point in the early afternoon. I have 2, 30 minute pump/feed break

I really just need to vent rn. My baby is 13 weeks old I think (maybe 14 idk I lost track today lol) and around 8 weeks started going through a bottle refusal. I have ALOT of milk pumped and in the last few weeks I’ve probably dumped close to 30oz just trying different bottles for her to take. Spoiler: she won’t take any! Hello Everyone So the little one is turning one soon, and I am transitioning off of the bottle at that point, and no longer pumping. I have started mixing whole milk with breast milk to ease the transition to only whole milk after he turns 1. So the issue I foresee now, is every night, we do a book, and then I give a small bottle, and then lay him down to sleep. The bottle really isn't drank too much. Maybe 20ML. It helps get him drowsy and literally lasts maybe 3-4 mins before he turns his

I am currently in the process of weaning off and am starting to wonder what to do about my milk stash. I saw an ads for a company that freeze dried your breastmilk and turn it into a powder good for 3 years. It had me wonder if I could do this in preparation of expecting a second child and give them some when I need to supplement due to low milk supply. Help! Baby, now 10 months, was used to feeding to sleep/nap, usually breastfed. I’ve now introduced more formula - hence bottle-, and… having him hold the bottle. Feeds are still mostly before nap/sleep. The thing is, he wants the bottle but I guess wants to play more, so he rolls to his side while taking the bottle, stays there a second or two, continues to roll to his tummy and… crawls. So he ends up not really getting anything. Lol. I will let him play a bit (this is all in his crib), then wh

We have entered a new stage where my baby cries because she's hungry, I offer a bottle, she looks me dead in the eye and stares into my soul, and she then proceeds to play the most infuriating game of whack-a-mole with her tongue repeatedly launching the bottle out of her mouth. My 5 month old has been drinking 6oz 5 times a day every 3 hours for a while now, but I'm trying to change her over to 8oz 4 times a day every 4 hours to get her on a better schedule for when we start solids in a few weeks. Around the 3.5 hour mark she gets extremely fussy and half the time she finishes all 8oz perfectly fine but the other half of the time it takes her almost 45 minutes to clear the whole bottle, and that's if she finishes at all. We've been doing this for only 2 day

My 9mo has been refusing bottles for the past 3 weeks but will nurse. He hasn’t denied bottles before except when teething. FTM, nervous about my 10 month olds and the routines with formula we have. Currently we do three solids meals a day and he is a very good eater-he will eat anything you put in front of him. I’m nervous about bedtime. We usually give him a big bottle as part of bedtime routine and offer him bottle when he wakes in the night, which is rare. What do we do after 12 months? I’m so excited to not have to spend on formula and we’ve made all his baby food, so I’m excited to get away from processed foods

As the title states, I want to wean my baby off of the breast. The thing is... she has never really taken a bottle, has been at my hip since she was born so I would bring a cover with me anywhere I needed to go. I did pump for a few months and used a bottle here and there but eventually stopped. So she straight up drinks from the breast. I planned on pumping as she transitions and is over a year old. Do I start her on a cup, straw cup, or sippy cup? And then wean? I don't know if I want to r

My baby was nursing about 40% of the time and bottle fed the remainder of the time and since I went back to work (remote 90% of the time with MIL watching the baby), the amount of time I’ve been able to breastfeed has dropped and now at 5 months, baby basically refuses the breast 😭 We’ve tried nipple shields and paced bottle feeding, but my baby has been able to hold his bottle for the past two months now and will tilt and hold the bottle on his own a large portion of the time, unless there’s s

I’m currently 6 months pregnant with my second and wanting to level set my breastfeeding expectations (haha yes I may be delulu!) I triple fed for two months (insanity that I actually do regret) and worked with several lactation consultants before giving up the first time. 7 month old baby boy. We’re reverse cycling over here and this kid is so so distracted during daytime feeds. Plus we introduced solid (a mistake?) and he loves them. I’ve been mixing in BM to as much solids as I can. He also won’t take a bottle. Oof I don’t know what to do. Stop the solids? I serve very nutrient dense foods - sardines, salmon, liver pate, chicken stock, yogurt with mix ins. I (the father) used to give my son one bottle a day once he figured out breastfeeding. It then turned into once a week while my wife is out of the house. But all of the sudden, he would not take anything from the bottle. He'll gnaw on it, let it sit in his mouth, push it out, even kind of gag. TL;DR: I finally caught up to my baby's milk needs after weeks of relactation and a 14-day pumping marathon. A week later, his appetite increased again and he needs top-ups. I'm terrified this will become a never-ending cycle. Does milk demand eventually stabilize around 3 months, or will I keep chasing it? Sorry for the graphic headline, but I’m at a bit of a loss on this situation. I know spitting up is normal but I’m wondering what others think about this situation. I have a 4 m/o baby who has been breastfed/bottle fed with frozen and freshly expressed breastmilk. Weight gain excellent, growth excellent. No concerns there.
