“When it gets extremely hot here in Texas, the underside of my pergola will rain tar all over my patio furniture (so fun). My plan is to replace the shingles and underlayment on the pergola roof, but will that actually fix this issue? My concern is that the tar is already on the…”

“I found this small octagonal piece of shingle in my driveway this morning. Measured maybe 2 x 2 inches approximately Roof is just over 4 years old, black Certainteed architectural shingles. I do not see any obvious place that this came from. It has a…”
“6-year-old shingle roof, shingles ripped off during heavy winds all day (20-45mph nonstop at 12 hours and counting). Due to widespread damage around the area, the installer/inspector can’t come til Tuesday. Normal amounts of rain coming in the next few days (<0.2”). What, if anything, do we need to do to prevent water intrusion? Anything easy/idiot-proof? I don’t think a tarp can work due to the potential for more wind. We’re totally exposed on top of a small mountain. Also… this roof made it”
“Saw a shingle on the ground and it is almost like just one slid off. This is on a small overhang by my back door and not the 'larger roof' area. I don't see anything similar on any other parts of the roof. Any idea what would cause this and any ideas for how to fix it? My biggest worry is water running into the gap between the flashing and structure. Would flashing tape along that gap make sense? This is an older roof, probably 15-20 years old in the Midwest. submitted by”
“Bought a house where a tree hit the roof under the previous owners. I heard some creaking noises while outside coming from the part of the roof that the tree hit. Decided to go up to the attic to investigate and found all of this around the impact location. Reason to be concerned/ repairs needed? submitted by /u/AndrewFitzsimmons [link] [comments]”
“The smallest shingles closest to the ridge seem to be cracked right through where they rolled over. Is this something I can just hit with a bunch of blackjack and call it good? Or does it need a roofer ? Any insight is much appreciated 🙏 Thank you submitted by /u/fumblingwisdom [link] [comments]”

My plan is to replace the shingles and underlayment on the pergola roof, but will that actually fix this issue? My concern is that the tar is already on the underside, so it will continue to rain havoc on me. submitted by /u/sole_engineer [link] [comments]”
“Please recommend a shingle. I am in a hail prone area in the Midwest. Currently leaning towards Malarky Vista. I live a split level. The lower level has box vents. Temperature in this part of the attic is good. Roofing contractors are always pushing ridge vents. I am hesitant because this part of the roof is parallel to prevailing wind. I am afraid of rain penetration. The box vents are doing their job. The upper roof needs better ventilation. I had a powered attic fan that is dead. I don't”
“Just had the house painted and the painter mentioned some shingles needed to be replaced to avoid water damage. Went and had a look, and although there is damage, it seems the overlap is still protecting from potential water damage? Roof is 16 years old. Would probably hire local contractor for fixing, am not super comfortable on roof submitted by /u/a_green_coat [link] [comments]”
“A tree fell on our roof during a severe storm in August. The tree destroyed the dormer over our front door, bent up our gutters, and punched holes in the roof above the bedroom on the northeast side of the house. We are working on getting the roof repaired. The roof is fairly old and needed to be replaced anyway, so we are doing a full replacement. However, there is an issue with the decking. The house, which was built in the 1940s (Kansas, USA), was built with 1x8 decking. (Please be nice to me”
“Came home from work nothing wrong with the roof I could see. I was home all evening and when my husband came home he noticed a lifted shingle. We had a light storm mainly just thundering. Climbed our ladder to find this hole where it almost looks like something came out of my roof. No debris in our yard or neighbors yard. I didn’t hear anything, I’m so confused. Any advice is greatly appreciated submitted by /u/Miserable_Code_2382 [link] [comments]”
“Garage roof. I’ve got these two metal plates fastened on my shingles and through to a 2x6 under the roof in my eave. Any idea what these are for? Only noticed one of them fell in because I saw a bird flew out of my roof lol. I know the roofs in awful shape and have been meaning to replace it for 3 years. Ive been looking in the attic every couple months to make sure nothing has leaked through. Can I put strapping directly over these shingles before I put metal roof on it? Should I open up this s”
“Does this look like damage from tree limbs? Rodents? Hail? We had a severe wind storm 6 months ago and there were several large fir tree branches and debris. I just noted it during routine maintenance and unfortunately the deck is soft and warped. I am waiting on Insurance to evaluate and getting some quotes from roofers as well. submitted by /u/No-Roll2484 [link] [comments]”
“I‘ve had a roofer come and replace shingles but it always inevitabely rains in again. Always over the windows. The roofer told me he found 200 year old shingles!! All the shingles are made of clay submitted by /u/Suzuyaoi [link] [comments]”
“EDIT: there has been hail multiple times over the last year, and a tornado 2 weeks ago. Hey! So I bought this house about a year ago, the roof was estimated to be 15 years old, with maybe another 10 years left. My GMA recommended these people to look at my roof. I guess this is a public adjuster in the video checking out my roof before going through insurance for a roofing company. I mean is this a scam or is getting it replaced through insurance worth it? I know my premium will go up, but less”
“Earlier this year, a crazy hailstorm hit our neighborhood and surrounding areas—hailstones the size of tennis balls. As a result, basically everyone has been getting their roof and siding repaired. We're on someone's schedule for this fall, but ours isn't done yet. We have at least half a dozen gashes in the siding on one side of our house, and at some point, wasps moved in. They haven't been too big of a problem so far—nobody's gotten stung—but it's obvious that their nu”
“This winter I had a roofing company remove snow from my roof and they did some ice channels, used some axes I recall. Around the same time I saw some pieces of the roof shingle come off. I called the company and they said don’t worry it’s just the decorative piece. They said they’d take a look at more extent of damage when no more ice on roof. I was slow to get them back and finally had them back out in the summer and they said those shingles falling off weren’t from the channeling because the p”
“Just realized my wood shed has some shingles missing. Appear to be smaller individual shingles instead of the larger sheets I see at Lowe’s. Would I be ok to just buy a pack that’s near the same color from Lowe’s, pull back the top layer or all the way back to the hip ridge shingles and then nail down the new shingles underneath? Figured I’d use some elastomeric sealant over the nail holes to be safe. There is nothing critical on the shed but if I can avoid water damage I’d like to. Aestheticall”
“My neighbor said that they saw my shingles lifting up in the wind. I haven’t seen it myself and don’t know if this is serious and needs to be addressed immediately or if this is something that can wait. As far as I can tell all the shingles are still on the roof. The house is a new build 2.5 years old. Is something like this typically covered under a warranty? submitted by /u/bigjakyak [link] [comments]”
“Our roof leaks when it rains heavily. I am adding pictures for any insites. We had someone out and told us there was nothing wrong with the roof but there clearly is.The leak is on a corner of our living room. submitted by /u/HappyandFullfilled [link] [comments]”
“Hi, we bought a house that has a separate garage with a very old roof. The only thing inside the garage is our car, nothing that has to stay dry or protected from the elements. The roof on the garage is much older than that on the house and is in very bad shape. Whenever there's a major storm or high winds, we are finding ourselves picking up small pieces of roof shingles that are littered around. Next year we are planning to completely demolish and rebuild the garage. I would strongly prefe”
“https://imgur.com/a/PVzr50T Are they rain caps? And if so should I replace them? Since there is no easy access to my roof, can I leave it be as there have been lots of rain but I have not noticed any water intrusion inside. Thank you for your advice. submitted by /u/bluburuberi [link] [comments]”
