Sales professionals are expressing frustration with a lack of effective strategies and solutions within their organizations. The reliance on personal relationships ('trust me') and the pressure to maintain high activity levels without clear direction is leading to burnout and questioning career paths.

“No. Because you're going to hire someone with proven sales experience and there's an entire team/dept dedicated to having you sell according to proven messaging and strategy. For context I work in Saas Sales. [re: It's Not Ai or ATS. Since Millennials Entered the Workforce Employers Just Don't Know How To Hire]”
“TLDR: I’ve had a successful sales career but am getting crushed right now. Don’t want to make excuses but territory genuinely is ass. Been in sales my entire 10 year career. 5 years in automotive sales/F&I, 3 years in AM, 2 years as an AE. Currently 6 months into my first territory based outside AE role and it’s crushing me. I did some sleuthing around this past week, and discovered that my territory is ranked as the worst territory in my region. 4 reps have worked here in the past 1.5 years”
“TL;DR: I grew sales 133% in half a year, but the Sales managers spend all their time micromanaging my marketing assets instead of making calls. Ready to start auditing their Salesforce metrics just to give them a taste of their own medicine. Sales is up my ass, constantly. I am SO SICK of it. Aside from my boss, who is consistently pleased with my deliverables and management style of my team, I feel like 80% of my workday is taken up by fulfilling the nonsensical demands of my socially and techn”

“I will preface I’ve always been in outside sales and have only done HCM/payroll (current industry) sales for 2.5-3 yrs, so I’ll concede up front that I might be missing something. If you know the HCM/payroll space, then you know it’s very relationship-based, where the best reps keep nurturing clients they bring on in order to extract referrals and keep upselling them in the future. Our org has recently launched a new 401(k) program to upsell and our managers have been pressing us to hustle it. W”
“I’m 4+ years into a B2B sales career, currently working in payroll sales. My day-to-day is primarily cold calling, prospecting, booking meetings, running presentations, managing my CRM/pipeline, sending proposals, closing deals, and onboarding new clients. I’ve done well, and have been recognized for my sales performance. However, there recently have been some changes in my commission structure that make me second guess whether I should continue to build a career here. That along with it becomin”

“I’m the only SE supporting our whole sales org at an ERP company — 12 reps between net-new and expansion. Six of them are newer hires I basically have to hold the hand of on every single call. I’m exhausted and honestly starting to hate this job. I’m not overly technical, for what it’s worth. I’m a sales person who happened to know the product I sell really well, and I took this role because I thought I’d be brought in on the more technical, interesting deals — genuinely sounded more interesting”
“Yes, it stems from sales culture. Most sales teams have some form of "gong" for when they close a deal. These days it's not usually a physical bell, though I've seen more than one of those. Usually it's a Slack/Teams channel or an email announcement. There's even a customer meeting management tool called "Gong" because it's such a well-known term in the sales world. It's a great tradition though, and I think the physical bell is the best way to do it =”
“I’ve been curious about getting into some fractional or contract SDR/BDR work on the side and wondering if anyone here has actually done it successfully. I have 10 years in sales and 6+ in BDR leadership. I’ve built and managed outbound teams, generated $60M+ in pipeline, and have experience with outbound strategy, prospecting, GTM processes, and AI/automation. I enjoy my full-time role and am not looking to leave it, but I’d love to take on a small engagement helping a startup build or improve”
“Hey everyone I got into tech sales at 21 and have been consistently a top performer from sdr to commercial at large and small organizations. But since going up to mid market and now enterprise I feel like something has changed and I’m not sure what. My prospecting is great my process is okay but I seem to get ghosted more. I will feel like deals are healthy and signals behind that. But then I just lose them in a way seems out of no where and I’m really not sure what I’m doing wrong. It happens i”
“I need to get this off my chest because I feel like I'm losing my mind. I’m 22. I’ve been in shipping/liner sales for 4 years (started at 18 as an assistant, clawed my way up to Senior Sales Executive at a major carrier here in Dubai). On paper, I manage 70+ active corporate accounts. In reality, I’m running around the UAE in 50°C heat doing cold visits, chasing arbitrary targets, and dealing with high-stress operational escalations. I take home a flat 9,000 AED. No commissions. No housing a”
“Been at my company for a year now and cannot build pipeline for the life of me. No pipeline = no revenue. In fact, this is the only sales job I’ve had where I’ve underperformed and I can’t figure out why. Unfortunately, I don’t have a sales leader to help me course correct (small company problems) and the other AE’s (only 6 of us) don’t prospect, they just focused on growing their 7+ years of customer base when inbounds are low. So they’re no help either. Every sales role I’ve had has been a hun”
“I get that you have sales experience, but it’s still questionable on the stage side because later stage once sales is a repeatable process is a completely different story to what you were pitching here, and your approach was off.”
This is actually really impressive. Everyone says no one is buying shit, but companies are still hiring the worst sales people or still just have awful processes. A friend of mine asked…
“I was the BDM/National outside sales manager for a pretty large healthcare company. I had 28 direct reports, and at least 50 more indirects. My team(s) were scattered across the country and there were some really great sales professionals in that bunch. One girl in particular though was on fire every single month and on top of the sales chain by a lot. She was hot, friendly, and happened to have a license in a niche that few had. When other sales reps would roll in with a $50k sales month, she&#”
“This is tough because to the outsider, it looks like a simple decision to fire the person. Before doing that I would recommend trying to transition relationships over to another sales rep or share the key relationships”

Of course, no one can override the team or create a bad environment.

“I think I am Rusted Out! I sell retained physician recruitment and my entire team is really struggling. The only people who are doing half way decent have been doing this for 20 years. The only thing my boss tells me is to "just keep digging", "keep your activity up! You will get there!" For a while I really thought I was the problem and maybe I am but essentially what we sell is "Trust me BRO!!! My recruiter is going to work so hard for you" I think that the proble”

“I've been reflecting on my career and would appreciate some perspective from people who've been in sales. I currently work for a forex broker converting leads into funded clients. I've actually been overachieving in my first three months, but I've realized my sales approach is different from what our company prefers. Rather than focusing on potential profits, I focus on the product itself: platform walkthroughs, demos, risk disclosure, and helping prospects decide whether it'”
