“a script that deletes half your calendar and reports success is my actual nightmare. crashes are at least loud. i used to run little watchdog scripts like that on my own mess of automations. same story, something small went sideways and i didn't notice until a human asked me…”

Several small business owners express strong reluctance to grant AI access to their financial data, citing concerns about security, control over data, and potential for errors. Many feel comfortable with simple summaries but reject giving AI write access or full control over accounts.

“yeah i couldnt agree more.. ai is an awesome tool but i definitely dont trust it fully either especially when it comes to actual money and business [re: If you have thousands of SKUs, do you still write PDP copy by hand for each or…”
“To you it may seem like Claude did the work…but Claude is only a text box until YOU direct it….claude doesn’t wake up on Saturday morning with an insane idea to create a 802 WiFi protocol from scratch with only bare chips and patience….”
“What is this plagiarism? Using AI no less. Blue Ocean Strategies written by Kim and Mauborgne is the absolute best business book I’ve read. Your AI slop is trying to take credit for someone else’s fantastic work.”
“a script that deletes half your calendar and reports success is my actual nightmare. crashes are at least loud. i used to run little watchdog scripts like that on my own mess of automations. same story, something small went sideways and i didn't notice until a human asked me about it. how do you catch that now, spot checks, or did you just retire the watchdog entirely? and what are these flows for, your own business or client work? real question: what if something handled all of this for you”
“that is true, I just like Silvia's research abilities. Allows me to go deep into various equities, etc. I suppose the frontier labs will get better at this over time, there is no doubt.”
“You said businesses are training models. They're not because they're not using the accounts you use. They're using accounts that meet those strict statutory requirements for data handling, like HIPAA. So if I work for a company and I want to have Claude running on our system, we sign a special agreement that talks about training and data handling, like every other SaaS product. I know what I'm talking about because I approved the agreement for our company. They're not legally”
“No not ideas. But they might sell our data, or customers data, which is all being passed in via prompts with little regard for security”
“We've considered setting something up for the same reason. We do consulting, and some customers have more serious privacy concerns. And then some customers send me 40 pages of nonsense that Claude vomited up and ask for a quote.”
“Honestly, the best defense for most small businesses is process, not software. Verify every payment or bank-detail change with a callback to a known number, turn on MFA for email, and set up DMARC on your domain so nobody can spoof you. That covers the majority of what's actually hitting small businesses right now, AI-generated or not. (I do email/IT setup for small businesses, and DMARC is the one I find missing almost every time.)”

“I get that. But those solutions are expensive. Do small firms actually subscribe to those? Also, as a cybersecurity guy, I totally don't trust sending any data to any cloud AI providers 😅”
“What is the person's role within the company if you don't mind me asking? It COULD just be some shadow IT and someone breaking protocol.”
“You're right to push back on that — we really need to delve into the reasons AI slop is so prominent nowadays.”
“Courts have consistently held that AI chatbots represent the entity that they’re representing. And I’m assuming this one is Grok-driven. Actually, I know it is. Yes, I’m aware of a variable rate and the fact they can change it. I wasn’t aware they can hold your funds from withdrawal after they reduce the rate. See the post.”
“Read it and give me synopsis and suggestions? Yeah why not. Do anything on my behalf? No.”
“I trust it's going to bring me a ton of resolution and cleanup work over the next 3-5 years. I wouldn't trust it with anything beyond basic cleanup and formatting. It's not in a place to make actual decisions.”
“If you trust everyone at the AI company and anyone else using that AI system with access - yes. I don’t so NO.”
