“basically what the title says. my school dosent offer any EC’s surrounding my major will this be a problem or nah?”
“Hey! Below are my extracurriculars. I want to preface with saying that I'm not looking for hate/blunt criticism (so don't post, ik,) but I wanted to see if others think these ECs are cohesive and work together. It took me a while to discover what I truly love to do…”
“I have some kind of "prestigious" ECs, mainly research and an internship at a really big finance company. However, I don't think these mattered as much to me because they only lasted a summer. My other ECs are mainly in-school teams or volunteering but I have done them all for 3…”
Multiple students are questioning if their chosen extracurricular activities adequately demonstrate interest or preparedness for their intended college major, specifically engineering. One student is considering quitting a long-standing activity due to time constraints and worries about the impact on their application.

“Hey! Below are my extracurriculars. I want to preface with saying that I'm not looking for hate/blunt criticism (so don't post, ik,) but I wanted to see if others think these ECs are cohesive and work together. It took me a while to discover what I truly love to do (humanitarian/mission trips/leadership.) My gpa is sorta mid due to some health complications so I'm trying to present my ECs the best I can. Where would these ECs accepted? (for undergrad) Thank youu! :) Intended major: P”
“I have some kind of "prestigious" ECs, mainly research and an internship at a really big finance company. However, I don't think these mattered as much to me because they only lasted a summer. My other ECs are mainly in-school teams or volunteering but I have done them all for 3 or 4 years and have national recognition in some of them. And I am president or vice president in all of them. Is it fine to rank those higher? Even though they are really basic like Model UN, debate, etc &”
“i’m hoping to major in history and i’m now just realizing i don’t have many history related ecs. i have some related to stuff i'm considering doing after undergrad (legaleaglebee award, speech/debate) the only one i can think of thats slightly related is volunteering for the smithsonian transcription center online. my other ones are like theater, working a lot, filmmaking, etc. i was also homeschooled which doesn’t help with getting ecs. theres only a few weeks left and i’m feeling pretty do”
“Hi! I’m a rising senior and I’ve been trying to find extracurriculars that are fit for economics/finance but it’s been EXTREMELY difficult to find except for a few summer programs. anybody have any recommendations? i rlly would like at least one to add my ecs so i show academic pursuit/interest in my major. Preferably not expensive! submitted by /u/Abject-Nectarine7593 [link] [comments]”
“Aspiring Physics major here. My plan is to have 2 STEM-Related ECs and 2 "Human" ECs. My awards and summer stuff is heavily STEM, so I needed something to balance it out. Keeping it vague, but here is the jist of it: Cosmology research: Investigated whether an observational limitation could bias measurements of a large scale cosmological effect. Designed simulations, tested an existing analysis method, and examined when its conclusions remained reliable. Worked with a research mentor t”
“ive been doing art all my life, the only things i can think of for my essays are art related... like really its only been until junior year when i decided i DIDNT want to go with art as a career. I want to apply to colleges as a science major, but idk if it'll work out considering all my ecs and honors are stuff like theatre, drawing, winning graphic design comps... will it still be ok for me? im top 2-5% percent in my class but im still worried with that aspect when it comes to applying and”
“Hi guys, I’d love to major in medical biology, bio (or anything pre med) and I was wondering if my ECs are too humanities related rather than STEM or medical related. -got a 4.0 uw gpa if that helps -Associate Editor of my school’s Campus Journalism Club for 2 years (also a science writer so ig that’s related) -Debater (awarded best debater in the interschool British Parliamentary Debate) -High School Representative for Community Service Club -Planted around 20+ trees -Taught literacy and numera”
