“My son tried to file tonight, needed IP PIN, and uploaded two forms of ID but now they want a video “interview” and say it may take some p to 3 business days. He filed for an extension so it will be LATE if it isn’t submitted tonight. I told him just to physically mail it tomorrow. Best he can do. “In other fun, TaxAct now bounces me back to log in every time I try to open the return to check the status, which is where I assume I would need to go to enter the godforsaken IP PIN. So there's that. [re: IP PIN - didn't know I needed one, cant get one now because the service is "unavailable"]”
“Just take this as a reminder for next tax season. Have your IRS account created around January 5th, and note your new PIN. (They change each calendar year) [re: IP PIN - didn't know I needed one, cant get one now because the service is "unavailable"]”
“Can anyone tell me what to do? I am filing tonight and just got rejected for not having my IP PIN. didn't know I had one, but no big - I'll just go to IRS.gov and request one. Except - The Identity Protection PIN service is unavailable at this time Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) information cannot be updated. Please try again later. “IRS put out a notice that some PINs sent in early Jan were incorrect - had to have 2 different clients login and get the correct PIN. [re: IRS identity protection PIN issues]”
“Just checking: you are using the IP PIN for the correct year, right? They send me a new PIN every year. [re: IRS identity protection PIN issues]”

“I followed some IRS directions to create an IP PIN and was successful. The directions said that my IP PIN was available on the IRS site, which it is. I sign on to the IRS site using ID.me. It also said that the IP PIN would also appear in my ID.me wallet. It is not in my wallet. I have waited a few days. Does anyone know if it should be there? Also, I saw something about the yearly new PIN issued by the IRS showing up in the ID.me wallet when issued. Is that when it goes in and this year’s won’t”
“You can try calling 1-800-908-9946, or mailing in Form 4506-T . Though it's possible, if you're getting errors online, that the same issue will prevent those methods from working as well. Did you actually get issued 1099s? If not, then they won't be on your transcript.”
thank you! I'm freaked out! I know IRS issues can take forever.
“ok thank you so much! so basically the PIN is among the first steps in the submission process?”
“Is this going to be a problem? I was trying to get information about how to opt out and instead it was just a one-click to opt-out. I wasn't going to actually do it until my current return was successfully completed. I can't seem to reach a real person at the IRS. My accountant is so hard to reach but I left him a voicemail. Did I just cause a huge problem? submitted by /u/livvylooz [link] [comments]”
“I have been attempting to get my Tax Pro IRS linked with my CAF number for over 2 and a half years. After multiple attempts, I have never received the PIN in the mail. I use my firm’s address. I note the address on the 2848 when on the phone with IRS agents, and multiple have said they passed along to CAF. I have also faxed in a blank 2848. At first I thought there was a hold up after getting married and changing my name, but there has never been an issue on the phone. This is really causing fru”
“Having an IP PIN for the kids will stop her from e-filing a return that claims them. She can still print it out and mail in the return. If you and she both claim the kids, then the IRS will send each of you a letter asking you to prove that you can claim the children. They will want birth certificates to prove you're their parent and school, daycare or medical records to prove that you tell other people that they live at your address.”
“I appreciate the advice. I've already spent far too much time trying to get connected on the phone the past 10 days. I will try to make an appointment in person”
“Was the "note" from IRS a 0012C letter? https://www.irs.gov/individuals/understanding-your-letter-12c”
“Also worth mentioning, if you absolutely cannot retrieve your IP PIN, you can also have your accountant paper file a return for you. This will take 2-3 months to get your refund, but it is an ultimate last resort”
“It is Reject Code IND-995. Description of error: The Dependent/Qualifying Person Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) must match the e-File database. Please double check your entry and resubmit your return with the correct number. What needs to be done: Check if you've entered the correct Identity Protection Personal Identification Number and resubmit your return with the correct number.
