“Northeast. Looking for advice on weedy areas around property. How do I get rid of all the overgrown weeds? Do I just have to pull it out? Is there an easier way to kill it and reset? I tried using a string trimmer, but it…”
“Is there anything I can do to address the bare areas of the lawn? Pre-emergent is already down so my options seem limited. For background, I’m a renter and this lawn was covered in weeds and leaves and had nearly no grass. After cleanup and fixing the irrigation, the zoysia started coming back. There’s also some Bermuda near the bare areas which I don’t really know what to do with. Any advice is welcome as we’re getting a puppy soon and wood like to avoid running in the mud all winter. sub”
“Hi all, new to lawn care! Or at least caring about my lawn. Moved into a house with a bermuda sod lawn, but came at it with a northern mindset of just mowing and watering, and it mostly died off. Didn't bother me much until I got dogs, and now I really want them to have a nicer place to run and play (and drag in less sand when they're done). If I didn't have the dogs I would just start over from bare dirt, but they will need to keep using the yard throughout the process, so I'm a”
“Hi I’m located in 8a Central NC. Our front yard is waiting for some new sod. I’m thinking about Zeon… I have a couple of questions regarding lawn care: - I have a front yard that neighbors dogs will pee on when they walk their dogs. We have a lot of dogs in the neighborhood…. I assume every day there might be one dog ends up doing business on our lawn. Will that wreck Zeon lawn if we install Zeon? - If I plan to sod Zeon, should I do it this fall or in the spring? (A company said they could come”
“Hello! Total lawn care newbie here. Recently moved into a new home with a lawn that was neglected by the previous owner for many years. I am struggling to get grass to grow. I had a company do aeration and seeding in the fall of 2025. Then I had a different company do moss removal, aeration, and seeding in the spring of this year. And just recently on 9/26, I had yet another company do limestone application (for the crazy amounts of moss we have), aeration, and overseeding. They used a tall fesc”
“Me and my wife are moving from Georgia to north Texas outside of Dallas next month. Our backyard is our new home and pretty big but there’s some patches that need to be fixed. Any recommendations? submitted by /u/captain-keg [link] [comments]”
“Howdy folks! Hailing from the north Houston area of TX. I have recently purchased a home and have become increasingly interested in maintaining a proper lawn. I moved from a townhome with relatively little grass and thus have little to no experience in this department. That said, could you gurus please enlighten me in what to do to this area of the lawn (front of home close to street curb)? I have an irrigation system set to water this area for 30 minutes three times a week. Other parts of the l”
“I’m planning to convert my scraggly grass lawn to a no mow yard next spring. My front yard is east facing with no shade and my backyard is to the west and full shade all day. The backyard yard doesn’t get much traffic and considering maybe moss? The front yard gets a some of traffic with kids and dogs. I love the look of creeping thyme and micro clover. What are things I need to do to prepare for this transition this fall? I’m in the southeast corner of Iowa. I’ve never done any sort of lawn car”
“Hey all! I just bought a home in northern California. I am new to lawn care, and want to get this right. The first three pictures are in my front yard, and the last two are in my side yard. So far, I've identified inefficient sprinklers in the side yard, and various weeds. The front yard is full of mint, clover, and weeds. I think bluegrass is mixed in there, but I can't really tell. Are there any pointers the community could recommend? Thank you! submitted by /u/ItsATempThin”

“Hi there I am looking for advice to understand if the brown patches of my lawn (mostly Bermuda) are dead or simply dormant. I am also curious if someone can help me ID the grass in the last three pictures (planted prior to me moving here). I was away for a month and lawn was not watered in the brutal Texas heat. Almost entire lawn turned brown aside from the grass I am looking to ID. Thank you! submitted by /u/Civil-Increase8286 [link] [comments]”
“My backyard is pretty rough after the heat, and I know a mower is not going to fix that. I need to deal with watering, weeds, and probably some reseeding before it looks normal again. I’m looking at the Navimow X4 because I do not really want to bury perimeter wire around a yard that I will probably keep changing while I fix it up. The open area is not huge, but the fence lines are uneven and I may redo parts of the edge later. Once the grass starts recovering, I like the idea of keeping it cut”
“Hey all, moved in to my house and had an awesome lawn, kept it nice for close to a year winter came around, we have had a fair bit of rain but I also did weed and feed a couple times wondering if it’s normal for buffalo grass to be like this in winter or if it’s something else EDIT: yes guys I realise it’s dead what I am curious is how, it’s worth noting we have a large dog and a kid that plays footy out there submitted by /u/Briglet27 [link] [comments]”
“I am new to this home and the lawn has a decent amount of weeds throughout. These are the pictures of my front yard a few days after mowing. What steps should I take to reduce the amount of weeds in the yard and improve the overall lawn this fall and next spring? This is in NJ. submitted by /u/Slow-Pen3331 [link] [comments]”
“Zone 6a/b northern ohio. Lawn right now is much better than when we bought it (foreclosure and 98% weeds). Done by aerating, overseed, and 2-4D. But how a big mixture right now. Considering just more overseeding with target grass type (TTTF Resilience 2) and hoping that takes over the majority over a few years of overseeding. Have a lot of projects so don’t really want to nuke, reseed, and topsoil. Though I do need to add topsoil sometime to level and even it out. Thoughts? I don’t care for the”

“Hey Everyone: My wife and I are trying to take back our lawn after two things: Our dogs killed a bunch of grass from tearing around all the time After regrowing lots of grass in the dead areas, it was taken over by crabgrass So I'm pretty sure we messed up this year by planting new grass in or around June of this year while not putting down any crabgrass prevention in the spring (didn't think to because there wasn't much grass due to the dogs). We brought in some new tops soil to ren”
“I moved to the south east coast ( zone 9a) 10 years ago, first time single homeowner. The previous owners were an elderly couple, and I imagine they had a lawn service, as the yard was immaculate Bermuda grass- not one weed in the front or back yard. I did notice that the grass on the other side of the fence in the back yard was different than Bermuda...it is a fatter blade and the turf just generally feels spongy to walk on. Note, the home's back yard sits on the edge of a drainage pond. So”
“We just moved into a new home and I'm trying to figure out what we have going on with the lawn. We're in US growing zone 7a, in northern jersey and I believe the existing lawn is primarily Kentucky bluegrass, although I'm not 100% sure. There is a noticeable strip/path running across the middle of the yard where the grass looks different from the rest of the lawn. The area is also slightly lower than the surrounding lawn, almost like a shallow divot or depression, and there are quite”
“Rake the dead grass, spread fertilizer it & water the shit out of it regularly in the evenings. He doesn’t have a sprinkler system and he’s not watering it regularly. TBH if he’s not going to build a pool, he needs to invest in irrigation/sprinkler system.”
“It needs water. Badly. You’ll want to put and 1” to 1.5” of water down a week. Once it completely greens up in a couple of months, rent an aerator from Home Depot and break up that soil. Don’t aerate in the heat of summer on a stressed lawn. Apply a preemergent in the fall for winter weed prevention. I highly recommend acquainting yourself with thebermudabible.com.”
“I’ll ask him about the sprinklers. The previous owners also had a playground set in the middle of the yard.”
“assume people don't seem to understand you have to live there the and you want to enjoy the yard. If you're area allows it bermuda is pretty easy but you gotta stay on top of the mowing.”
“I would 100% rent a tiller and mix in some decent soil. I did 6" in my crappy Colorado soil and it made a huge difference vs me trying to just seed in the front. I would also say, I regret not just bucking up and spending the money to install a proper sprinkler system. Watering my lawn feels like a 2nd job. Install a sprinkler system, till and mix in good soil.”
“I grew up in apartment in Asia and never had experience with lawn mowing/care until I bought my property in Australia. I’ve been pulling these weeds by hand, but I’m getting tired of constantly doing it. The side of my house is covered with gravel and has become overgrown with low weeds. I also have weeds growing between pavers, which are directly beside the lawn. What products or methods would you recommend for killing them and preventing them from returning long-term? Do I need to have differe”

“***This is how both yards look*** So I’m new to the yard thing, been in an apartment for the last few years. Finally got a nice new house to rent but the yard is awful. Front yard and back yard are identical as far as “grass” goes. This is in Northern Oregon, so it’s very dry right now. I have two bulldogs and a wife that deserve a decent yard but I don’t know where to start. I have already sprayed a good amount of weed killer all over the yards and it’s only been 24 hours. Any help would be gre”
“Complete noob here. I live in Switzerland where contracting a gardener is expensive and would like to take care of the lawn myself. Over an year ago, I got a house with a garden and did minimal care of the garden as instructed by the previous owners. Fast forward one year later and oh boy is it a mess. The situation is as follows: the garden is not big, maybe 100sqm. It is a lawn and on the side it has bushes, trees and flowers. The lawn now is completely taken over by local flora and the most p”
“Have 5 acres of grass surrounded by wooded area on one side, hay fields on another side. I mow it regularly. I have overseeded some of the areas that had weeds about 3 months after treating with weed-and-feed. Did not really notice improvement. What species of weeds am I dealing with? Could it be there are rocks under the soil making it crappy soil to grow grass on? I live in an area with rocky ground. If I don’t mow the area with weeds will grass get established there or will the weeds get wors”
“DFW TX area Bermuda grass This side yard on the south side of my house has essentially always looked like this. Is this a watering issue? The area in the shade grows super fast and the dead looking areas don’t get much shade. Directly near the fence though looks like the driest land on the moon (third photo). I’m watering three days a week, and those days are split into 3 cycles about 2 hours apart because it seemed like water would puddle near fence (and assuming that’s why the grass directly u”
“Looking for lawn care advice!!! As the title states I am first time homeowner and have added lawn care to a long list of new responsibilities. This is the 2nd summer with the lawn and it looks awful It’s hard to tell the difference between dry grass, dead grass, thatch and possible fungi or disease at least for me. I included a close up shot of what looks like just burnt/dead grass [I have not used fertilizer at all] I typically mow 1-2 times per week - I originally bagged all my clippings and h”
“Hello all I’m in Dallas Texas and have a zeon zoysia yard that is not doing so well in certain places. There are dead batches and bare dirt as well. Can it be fixed with plugs or do I need to cut out squares and re sod? Appreciate the advice. Thank you. submitted by /u/Either_Painter7513 [link] [comments]”
“Hello, Here is my lawn at the moment. The backyard is good for the most part but the front lawn is about 50/50 weeds and grass. It doesn’t help my dogs use the bathroom on it everyday. I am located in Massachusetts. Please give me some advice or contact of someone who can help. submitted by /u/StoryBackground973 [link] [comments]”
“Can always take the slow approach and just mow it. Many grasses will outcompete weeds if you consistently mow them down. Not super short necessarily, but by mowing it encourages some grass to spread, some weeds as well but many will just die especially if there is grass there.”
“I just bought my first home, and to be completely honest, I know absolute zero about lawn care. The yard is looking pretty rough and patchy, and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by where to even start. I’m looking for DIY advice to turn this around. Here’s the current situation: Current condition: Very thin, patchy, dormant/brownish areas, and weed infestation. Weeds/Grass ID help: I took some close-ups of the yard (images attached). It looks like I have a mix of standard grass, some purplish/reddi”
“Hello! We're located in SW Idaho, and my husband and I just became homeowners! After apartment living for so long, we don't know squat about lawns. We want to do the best we can for ours, but we're starting to get concerned about the yellow patches. Because the sod installation was a little lackluster in the backyard, I picked up some soil topper and grass seed to help fill it in over time. I also bought 10-10-10 fertilizer, hoping it might help too, but I haven't applied either”
“Context Wife and I just moved into a new house we are renting in Texas (north of Houston). When we first moved in, the lawn was super patchy but relatively weed free. Well, fast forward a few months, we are in summer now and the lawn shot up with weeds like mad. I'm guessing it was filled with the seeds from last year's weeds that the former tenants let run rampant. Anyways, I am trying to make a plan of attack. Weed Identities There are three main weed types. The worst of which seems to”
“I bought a newly constructed home in the northern Texas region about a year ago and started noticing the front yard looking like this. Did the builders use two different types of grass while building this lot? That's the only thing I can think of with how the shape of it looks. submitted by /u/Ol_Daggum [link] [comments]”
“Hi All, Second summer in a home and looking for some advice on weed control. Did a Milorganite app back in May but of course that doesn’t have any herbicides - should I switch to a Weed & Feed (Menards? I used that last year) or supplement Milorganite w/ something? Already did a weeding session earlier this month but running low on time as my wife and I are expecting our first baby this fall. Planning on over-seeding in the Fall and just want to make the correct steps before then. subm”
“You can actually stick it back in the ground and water it and it might take. It is called sprigging and some people grow their yard that way or fill in gaps using that method.”
“Hi All! Florida here! I just moved into a rental and I’m having no luck with lawn companies so I’m thinking of going back to doing my lawn myself. We previously owned a house with a decent size yard so I had a ride on electric. I’m a big fan of electric and it makes the most sense to me. My rental has a pretty small yard in comparison, less than 10k sqft and pretty much flat. I’ve done a lot of research but looking to see if there is any input here. Is a self propelled necessary or even that hel”
“Needing general lawn advice. Zone 6b. Been a homeowner for just under a year now. Grass is thin and wiry when overgrown, and looks healthy, but mowing reveals brown patches all over. Unsure of the species. Not sure if it’s dying or if it’s suffering brown spot. We’ve had tons of rain and crazy heat this summer..I also have an eye sore of a dirt circle where a tree company wrongly removed our tree during our move in process. Photo one is of the brown patches, photo two was to showcase the tall gr”

“I share this yard with my 85 year old neighbor Chuck. He’s not much into lawn care any more. So I keep it cut and edged. This BlueStem-King Ranch grass took over maybe 7-10 years ago. I was not much into lawn care then, and just kind of let it do its thing. You gotta hand it to the scientists that made this shit. It has not rained in 25 days. It’s been over 100 almost every day for 2 or more weeks. I still have to mow it every 5 days or it’ll get seed heads. It stinks when you mow it. But I have”
“Zone 6a. Pretty much what the title says. To the best of my knowledge there were grubs and voles the past year. Now most of the grass is dead and weeds are taking over. Do I just till everything and reseed? What’s the easiest/cheapest way to get this back to “acceptable”. Also should I wait till fall when it’s a little cooler? We layed down Milky spore the past 3 seasons. And fertilized in the spring. submitted by /u/BMO888 [link] [comments]”
“Hello All, I was wondering if I could get some help/advice. I am moving into a new property and just ran through a final inspection, and we noticed that the front lawn was about 50% "dead". The lawn was not this way back in June when the initial inspections were down. The area is Central Texas which has been having a huge heat spell right now. So I'm wondering if this is just affects from the heat or worse a fungus? the neighbors lawn does not seem to be affected by this. Should i”
“Just moved into a townhouse rental. Backyard is mostly weeds with some grass and ivy running through it. Looking at the photos, is there any seeding that could be done to bring this back or would my landlord need to re-sod? GTA, Ontario, Canada submitted by /u/Spray-Perfect [link] [comments]”

“Currently renting in Seattle. Moved in February to a patchy, depleted lawn. Soil is very hard and rocky. Lawn maintenance has been mainly watering + mowing since we’ve moved in. Now, weeds are taking over as grass is dormant. Want to mow to take growing weeds down, but research is showing that may do more harm to lawn than good…? Given we’re renting, not looking to go over the top. However, would appreciate any good next steps to treating weeds and getting the lawn back on its feet. We have weed”
“I purchased a new home recently and the backyard’s lawn is pretty bad. Attached photos showing that it’s currently looking to be more weeds than grass. What can I do to start helping to solve this? I’m in southern US and my front yard, which looks much better, is a St Augustine/Bermuda mix. My current plan is to spray some of the RoundUp for Lawns product everywhere and let it work, then lay down some topsoil and fertilizer. I’m open to anything at this point. As an aside, certain areas of my la”
“Hi everyone, I recently purchased a new home in New England, not far from Long Island sound, and I inherited a very sun dried yard. After meticulously watering daily for a couple of weeks, I have gotten some of the green back. However, it is still patchy in spots even though I tried to add some seed. As a noobie to Lawncare, could I please get some advice on how to make my lawn become a luxurious golf pitch? What kind of grass do I have? Should I aerate? How often should I water? Thank you for a”
“New to lawn care and first time posting here, but my girlfriend and I are moving into a new long-term rental (3-5 years hopefully) in North East Ohio - Zone 6a. I’m turning 30 this year and my inner desire to enlist to fight the good fight for a nice lawn is starting to call out to me. I have little to no experience in cultivating a healthy and eye-catching yard, so I’m hoping for some guidance from those with years of experience. First, I’d like to know what type of grass my yard is primarily m”
“Im in northern Illinois and have lived in my home for about 6 years. As far as lawn care is concerned, I've only mowed and trimmed throughout the years but I would like to make my grass fuller and presentable. Disregard the "weeds" in the backyard, that was a garden then this year I wanted to try wildflowers to see if they would take and have been working on that unless it fails then ill go back to grass :) any advice is much appreciated. “Hi all, Looking for advice on what to do about the weed overrun section of my lawn. See attached photo. I was thinking I had to pull them out but neighbour suggested taking a lawnmower to it and then pouring herbicide. My grass is good everywhere else, but have weeds all over the lawn I would like to get rid of, but not sure what is the best way to go about it. Would appreciate any advice.
