“Hi everyone!! First off thank you all so much for taking the time to help me out. This is my first time keeping a tank, as I was gifted an empty 20 gallon, and my friend unfortunately is unable to keep his ADF as he is moving, so I volunteered to set up my tank (currently empty) and adopt his frog (plus get a friend or two for him). I have been googling a lot over the past few days, and I would reallyyyyy appreciate some clarification and advice, as keeping the critters alive, healthy, and happy”

“Picture is of all the dead snails I've found in my tank over the past 2 days. I had to temporarily quarantine 2 serpae tetra in a 5 gallon tank where I keep all my extra plants and snails. I had a colony of orange ramshorns that I was quite fond of in the quarantine tank. Over the past few days, I've found quite a lot of them dead at the bottom of the tank. I collected their remains in a small cup and moved all the living snails into a separate tank. Could the serpae be killing these sna”

“Do you have hard water? Buy a water hardness tester ($9 on Amazon) to check your water. That will explain a lot”

“Hello! So I recently bought what was labeled as a dwarf Mexican crawfish, but after a couple of molts I'm pretty sure he isn't 😅 (first pic is when I got him and the other two are today) I've got a nano tank with plants, shrimps, cories and cpds, a large crawfish would absolutely bulldoze the setup, I don't really feel like starting another tank, I guess I'm looking for confirmation he isn't a dwarf and advice on what to do, thank you! submitted by /u/_the-on”

“Not sure what these dots are. There is a ton of them, and they exist on the aquarium glass and on the wood inside. “I’m wondering if anyone knows where I could find 0.5 inch or bigger white pebbles that are safe for aquariums? I like the ones pictured, but cannot tell if they have a coating that makes them unsafe for an aquarium. I like the natural shape (versus circle glass beads). “Hi all, I noticed 2 things in my tank today. 1st pic shows brown and long things (not moving). I didn't notice this until this morning. Is this possibly a fish poop? Lol 2nd pic shows white (a hint of pink) bugs. I see them jumping on the water surface when light comes on, then disappear after a bit then come back the next day. Anyone know what these are? “I’m on day 5 of a dark start (lights are just on temporarily for this picture). My driftwood is appearing to have a little bit of growth on it and I’m trying to determine if this is just biofilm or some type of algae growth. Although I’m not turning the aquarium lights on, the room does get some ambient light as it’s a home office (no direct sunlight though). I filled the tank 5 days ago, added the recommended dose of Fritz Zyme 7 bacteria, and turned the filter on. Any ideas on if this is algae”

“Is this just biofilm in my axolotl tank or somthing else? Its forming these odd bubbles that i havent seen before. The tank always had some biofilm but this problem only started after i removed like 50% of my floating plants because they had formed a white mold. “Hi! Above is my shrimp tank a few months ago. I recently acquired a larger tank and I decided to give my shrimps a fresh start and a larger home. I’ve had problems with various pests, like hydra and some parasite that has killed all but one of my adults, leaving only one adult and 6 shrimplets. I tried very hard to help get rid of the pest, but sadly many shrimp died. I haven’t seen new deaths in a while nor have I seen the parasite, but I still want to be cautious. My goal is to move the wood,”

“I noticed he was just sitting on the edge of the tank near the glass, which usually he moves around a bunch. He was doing fine this morning when I left but he’s just not acting like he usually does, plus he’s moving really rigid and is sorta curling himself up. “I’m on week 5 of a new tank and a bunch of these little creatures have appeared! What I first believed to be mystery snail eggs are egg masses from these guys instead. I think they may be some sort of copepod, but I don’t have a microscope to check? Anyone have any ideas? “Relatively new fish-keeper here! Got some Frogbit and the roots are covered in this brown algae. I’m seeing mixed ideas on what it could be online. How can I remove it? The rest of the tank is spotless thanks to my shrimp and snails. Also, my Frogbit seems to be yellowing in some areas and the leaves are all staying around a smaller size. I have a lid on the tank to prevent any jumping fish and to prevent quick water depletion. I know condensation dripping onto the leaves can cause some yellowin”

“So I met someone on Facebook to purchase some items for an aquarium. I currently have about six fully functioning tanks, but when I got there, the guy had a giant fish room. He had torn down and was getting rid of much more than I originally thought. If someone can identify the parts in the pictures so I know what they’re called because he told me there was a set up for a 55 gallon sump and a 40 gallon sump and I’ve never used the sump so I’m unfamiliar with these pieces and a couple others.
