Chase Cardholders Trapped by Product-Change Rules
Customers are frustrated by the complexity and restrictions around changing their Chase credit cards (product changes, downgrades, cancellations). They face unexpected annual fees, limitations on product change timing, and conflicting information from Chase representatives and online resources, leading to uncertainty and wasted effort.

“Like the rest of you, I was grandfathered in with no annual fee for a while. But I'm not sure what to do because I've had the card for over 10 years and there's a pretty big limit on it. I could use the $100…”
Why not downgrade to a no annual fee card to keep the line open?
“We have both cards. We are closing the sapphire reserve as it’s hard to make money back from the card benefits. The platinum coupons is a money maker for us. We do not try for the exclusive Amex events. We use the lounges no issues. But we fly earlier in the day.”
If you don’t get approved you might be left with neither.
“I've had my Chase United Card for years. How do I take advantage of a Chase welcome offer on another card. It's my only Chase card so no problem with 5/24 . submitted by /u/ProfessionalSink4415 [link] [comments]”
“The Slate card doesn't offer cash back so it's really of no use except for the rare occasion like the Paze promotion going on now. I've had this card for well over 10 years. I currently have: 2 Freedom cards 1 Unlimited 1 Sapphire 1 Amazon Prime card and 1 Slate I select a card to use depending on which gives the best cb. I use the cards mostly for gas, grocery, Walmart and restaurants. Is there a Chase card that pays more than 1.5% on everything else? Is the Flex card a better chang”
“It happened to me again, but this time with Chase. I'd done a product switch from the Chase Sapphire Reserve to the Freedom card. I have a companion card for my wife. They sent new cards, both in the same envelope. This time I did activate them (through the Chase app), but immediately put both cards in the safe and haven't touched them since. 6 weels later, both card numbers were run at the same online POS for different amounts.”
“I suspect that they will remove 2x$10 credits. After DDs restriction on pickup I stopped using it.”
I still get $10 min at DashMart, but 7-11 and Safeway deli changed to $20
“So many tweaks and changes in addition to the elevated SUB recently on this card. All signs point to it struggling to attract users since the refresh. Wouldn’t be surprised if they totally overhaul it again in the near future.”
“this definitely changes the organic spend calculus of getting the card, as the $5 was essentially worthless.”
“Differ from account probably. Me and P2 have CSR, mine is $10 min, P2 is $20 min.”
“I want to get the CSR w/bonus. I got my CSP a November last year, and plan getting the CSR right around the 1 year mark of holding the CSP. Now that Chase have changed the rules. How is the luck with getting CSR bonus while hold the other? Are most people seeing pop-up jail on this? submitted by /u/primordial_slime [link] [comments]”
“i am canceling my gold too. Just annoying to have to use the credits every month”
“Anyone with experience doing a product change from the More Rewards to the Flagship Rewards? I think the Prime benefit makes it worth it for me. submitted by /u/TheDapperDeuce1914 [link] [comments]”
“I want to close one of my hotels credit cards to change when the anniversary night hits the account since there’s no way to change it manually. I know I can change it by a few weeks by changing the billing date but I want to change it by months. My aim is not another SUB but it’s definitely a nice add-on when reapplying. Regardless, my main question is whether the 24-Month rule is still intact? Anyone faced an issue closing and reopening a card 24 months later and getting another SUB? subm”
“I’m not sure if you meant to reply to my comment, but from a quick Google search the fee hike happened at the end of 2025.”
“In my opinion, the credit card YouTuber idea of “offsetting an annual fee” doesn’t add up: It’s not actually a discount and with hotels it actually costs more vs. signing up for member pricing on the hotel’s website. I ideally prefer avoiding buying airline tickets or hotel rooms through a portal. With aggregators like Google Flights for airlines and Google Maps for hotels it’s super easy to find a good value and book direct. From what I’ve seen from American Express Lounges, Priority Pass “The”
“Yeah I’m not worried about the points since I have a freedom unlimited but I’m more worried about losing 93k legacy points at 1.5x redemption which works out to about $400 vs 1x redemption. I know the VX is worth it for me just because of how easy it is to offset the annual fee and I live in NYC so I have lounge access. TBH I wouldn’t have seriously considered the plat if not for the 150k SUB”
“I have not received credits consistently even after a week on chase card. Like one day, I was able to do three transactions but only received one credit. Did this happen to anyone? If yes, what did you do? Should I contact chase/paze for resolution or just wait few more days for the credits to post?”
“I recently got a Chase Sapphire Preferred and added my wife as an extra card. Now, I've learned that the smart things would have been for her to sign up for her own card to get the bonus points. Is there anything stopping us from cancelling the "extra" card and her signing up for her own? Will they flag that or something? We both have great credit so that's not a concern. Thanks! submitted by /u/mattgrommes [link] [comments]”
And it’s for the sapphire preferred and sapphire reserved
“Get the Plat for the current bonus offer, then pick up the CSR at a later date. As others have said, 100k is a low post-refresh offer for the CSR.”
“I saw a rumor on this forum that this might be going away September 1 (unconfirmed). If that’s true, I’d like to take advantage of it before it’s gone, before applying for the Infinite version a few months down the road. Just wondering if anyone has a recent DP on this- whether the 100K elevated SUB is still showing up for the regular Autograph Journey with a Premier Checking account. If an existing premier account could verify this by logging into their account and see if the offer shows up, th”
“My credit card annual fee is in 3 days. I assumed they would give 30-45 days after charge is posted like Chase. But just realized there is no guarantee for refund. I went ahead and made transactions to trigger the travel credit and lifestyle credit today. Chances are very low that my credits will be posted before my annual fee gets added. If I downgrade now after 2 days (1 day before annual fee posting) and credits have not posted yet, will the credits still post to my account after downgrade? &”
“5.25% used to require $100k, now it requires $1 million. Everyone is affected, if you have an existing card under the old terms then your account has a date when it will transition to the new terms. My comment’s first sentence is saying, if you still have a 5.25% CCR after the nerf (aka $1M+) then it makes sense to get more CCRs”
“The only way upgrade is if it had zero fee and kept the 3% cash back. That 3% for our daily card is too good.”
“You replied to a bot. Wtf is "primary card in Chase app"? That's not even a thing. Btw you know that you don't get +10x on United cards unless you're targeted for a promo. Have you tried logging in with P2's email on Paze?”
“Thanks! That's good to know, I saw somewhere that the transfer is not available from the app and you had to call or do a secure message. Was that your experience too?”
“i moved 8k from my freedom unlimited to new card few months back, no issues at all”
“You can still transfer the limit. Now the entire limit might not transfer but it doesn’t hurt to try”
“I can't find the 6-month waiver of the monthly fee in their terms when I go to apply. gonna call to see what they say. thanks for all the info”
“This is still wild. 10% of your entire savings (assuming you're using after-tax numbers) is going towards annual fees and you're eyeing cards that increase that number more.”
“I currently have both the Chase Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited . One of them was originally an Ink Business Preferred that I later downgraded/product-changed to a ink cash/unlimted card. I’m seeing the current 100K UR welcome bonus on Ink Cash/Unlimited and I’m wondering if I’m still eligible for the SUB. Has anyone been in a similar situation? 1. Does the Chase application eligibility popup tell you that you’re not eligible before the application is finalized? 2. Is it safe to submit the applicatio”
“People online hate the Chase Sapphire Reserve's price increase and think the added credits are not worth it. But for someone who checks off most boxes for their target audience (DINKs that go out and live in a big city) so far I can easily make it the $800 AF worth it $300 travel credit I don't even think about, so I consider this to be a $500 card $150 stubhub x2 - I live in LA and we hit up NBA games, comedy shows, and concerts from time to time. Even at less than full value that's”
“I'm trying to find out why this offer is only on my sapphire offers and not any of my other chase cards and it is not on my wife's sapphire offers either. Is there any difference in this offer compared to the normal paze $10 statement credit? submitted by /u/addicted2_urmom [link] [comments]”
“I think they reevaluate me in Sept 2027. Unless I somehow get $1 million+ in my BofA and Merrill, I'll lose that extra 25% bonus. Assuming that happens, that means that my CCR will go from a 5.25% card to a 4.5% card, and my PRE will go from a 2.625% fallback to a 2.25%. Both of those are still pretty decent cash back rates IMO/IME, but I'll check out other options as the date approaches.”
Same. I tried last week and it gave me the $25 minimum reminder
Don’t use them in the portal in the first place, transfer them to partners
“Thanks! Yea the Schwab route seems to be the way to go for me. For C1, I already downgraded Vx to V1 a while back. Don't see any offers in app right now to downgrade. Also have Savor already to hopefully they'll offer me QS at some point to switch to.”
“The points themselves aren’t expiring. Chase is ending the old guaranteed 1.5¢/point Chase Travel redemption for grandfathered Sapphire Reserve points after Oct 26, 2027. After that, Chase Travel is generally 1¢/point”
“What are the changes? I don't have it but I considered getting a CFU at some point. Are the changes bad?”
“It definitely changed at some point. My wife downgraded from CSP to CFF a couple of years ago.”
“Chat GPT Summary Chase appears to have accidentally sent some existing Slate cardholders a 0% APR offer that was intended for new cardholders. Chase later said they would honor the offer for qualifying purchases made during the promotional period. Now Chase seems to be processing that correction by crediting the full amount of qualifying purchases back to the credit card account , rather than simply removing any interest that may have been charged. That's why people are seeing large “Purchas”
“Is it possible to stack the Rakuten $150 bonus with an affinity CCR, or do I have to apply for the vanilla CCR? I opened the vanilla one 13 months ago, so I wouldn't be eligible yet if so. submitted by /u/NoDress3043 [link] [comments]”
“I have had an ink business cash linked to my Instacart account and am just added an ink business unlimited to the account. I am still only seeing one $20/mo credit even though 3 months was added my instacart+ membership. My understand is that these are 2 different ink products and should provide 2 $20 monthly credits or am I mistaken submitted by /u/luckyaces4 [link] [comments]”
“My Global Entry is up for renewal and I no longer have a Sapphire card. My wife has the IHG Premier card. Can I use her card to pay for my Global Entry fee and get reimbursed, or is it for the cardholder only? submitted by /u/Accurate-Flow8078 [link] [comments]”
“It sounds like someone messed up the coding; there’s no way that Chase would intentionally refund the base cost of your purchases. They’ll definitely figure it out eventually, and probably reverse the adjustment because it’s too much money to just let go. But who knows, with Chase you might randomly get lucky like all the Canadian cardholders with outstanding balances that Chase just forgave when it withdrew from Canada.”
“Look for an email: "You may have received a Slate email in error". I received this one where they said they would waive fees for a time period; I just figured they'd already done so, but I got my credit today too. ... They also raised my rate on my other card with them by 2.5% so, they'll be making it back pretty easy.”
