“The bluegrass will fill in gaps the fescue leaves, but it spreads slower than people expect and needs decent sun in those low spots or it just sits there. Clover and broadleaf herbicide don't mix, so you're picking one or the other this fall. If the weeds are winning half the yard by August, I'd lean herbicide and skip the clover for a season, see how the bluegrass does before reintroducing it.”

“I used United seed super turf 1 ls in my backyard very happy with it considering no irrigation very little fertilizer mostly just cheap organic fertilizer I grab on clearance n one dose of crabgrass prevention.”
“Extensively. Works great. The problem is you have 24 to 48 hours to kill as many grubs as you can. If you are applying in a low feeding period, you may not kill enough grubs to stop further damage. That's why when using a curative grub control, you often need to apply multiple times to address different feeding groups. Ideally you'll want a preventative grub control in the future which allows coverage over a season or so. To reiterate, if they are not feeding when you apply, it will not”

“Have 3 persistent patchy dead spots on my lawn. This part of the lawn gets morning-early afternoon sun. Had more of these patches, but increased watering and they seemed to resolve. whole lawn (including the spots) gets relatively even watering every other day overnight through rain bird pop up sprinklers. “You're overthinking it. Tenacity is fine at seeding time for most cool season grasses, the bleaching you saw was likely from your rate or overlap. That said if your past germination issues were seed quality and not the mesotrione, skip it this round and just hit the weeds with a post emergent after the new grass is established.”

“Yes I'm a bad gardener, I didn't know grass needs a lot of water. I just found out I gave them a small amount of water twice a day, and extra rice water and coffee dregs (I heard those are good for plants) What I did, was buy a bunch of zoysia patches last week and put them on my admittedly pretty dry ground. “Depending on where you live, adding some perennial rye and/or bluegrass to your seed could be a good idea. They create stolons and spread to fill areas, which fescue doesn’t.”

“I live in northwest Ohio and I started trying to pre-germinate grass seed last Thursday (8/13). I soaked the seed for 24 hours and then pulled it to drain for 24 hours. The water was really brown and after giving the seed a quick 20min soak are re-hang on Friday and Saturday the water was still really brown. “Im in Nova Scotia, Canada. Ive been working on patching up some dead spots in my lawn. I have 2 female golden retrievers and their pee is awful for the grass. “Ah, any selective herbicide is safe for people and pets once it dries. Dry times can vary. Middle of the lawn on a hot day could be as short as 3-5 minutes. Cooler weather up to maybe 30 minutes. I work lawn care in north Florida. It’s probably easier to spray it with roundup and then rake it out. Then install sod and maintain it. Trying to recover a lawn that’s been over run can take a long time. Or, do sections at a time, maybe half this year half next.”

“The sod looks better than surrounding areas... I'd skip the weed-laden bags of Jon Green garbage, and go with more KBG. Sod is grass the same way as seeded grass...so it doesn't matter how it got there. If you think the shade and pH is hurting the regular grass, it's hurting the sod as well. The issue is the sod wasn't laid correctly, so it sticks out even worse...or it's just so much healthier than the grass around it, which is mostly weeds. Crabgrass is thick in areas. Weed”
