Individuals Struggling with Debt Repayments
The shared pain is the overwhelming burden of debt, characterized by high EMIs, multiple loan sources (including credit cards and loan apps), and difficulty managing repayments alongside living expenses. Many are facing job loss or reduced income, making it impossible to keep up with obligations and leading to stress and a feeling of being trapped.

“Could look into other options for loans, just because the first option didn't work you might find other ones through places like Upgrade, Upstart or Achieve loans. You probably still have options to find something that'll work for you.”
“yes, and I have looked into private loans but I am trying to earn as little interest as possible and thought this seemed like a reasonable way to do it. But want more insight on if I am overlooking complications which will make this harder than I currently am making it sound”
“the €500 is merely living money (rood staan, dus €-500 en dan €1300 inkomen betekent €800 over en dan €-250 na vaste lasten). i have a study debt of over €50k and a separate loan of €500 (it was 4k with 10% interest). i wish it was just €500. but what matters to me is how me and my cat will manage to eat the next few months, that's it.”
“I know this is an older post, I’m in a similar situation. Do you know when you’re typically able to defer payments? I’ve gotten different answers every time I call”
“Thanks for the info. My question here is, what stops you from default besides perhaps personal code of conduct? Is default punishable by laws in China? I'm not suggesting you to default. As I said since the very begging: try everything possible to pay back. Family borrowing is very common in China. You might also find a spouse who is willing to support you, like Jeff Bezos' first wife who supported him. Who is to say you won't be the next Bezos? But it's getting harder and harder”
“Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice from anyone who's dealt with Suncoast Credit Union or has experience with auto loans and repossessions. I received a Notice of Repossession dated July 8 stating that my loan was past due and that I needed to pay x amount of money to bring the account current. The same day I received the notice, I made a payment (one full monthly payment). After making that payment, my account is two Months behind vs 3 months. I also submitted a Promise to”
Because you do not make enough to justify two large loans like that.
“i took education loan of amount 5.07 lakh(principle) during 4 yrs of technical course started in 2022. the interest of 9.4-10% kept on adding, but some interest amount was repaid by CSIS subsidy (in 3 installments 5.5k + 19k+ 32k) during these 4yrs of my course. In recent days the outstanding amount was around 5.62 lakh and in accnt. statement the interest was getting added every month, so i planned to arrange money and repay it as it's interest(9.5%) is feeling high to me, and will repay to”
“I’m a college student and I currently have an outstanding balance of $800 that I need to pay before the next semester. The financial aid office said they cannot do anything in this situation unfortunately so I’m looking at loans that I’d pay off next month when I get more financial aid. I get paid ~$1,400 a month and have ~615 credit. I’ve gotten approved for one already but I’m looking for the best option ofc so if yall have any suggestions it would be appreciated submitted by /u/Ke”
“Srry typo. I meant to say I’ll just train a crow to pickpocket people until I can pay the $300 back. Thanks for the help! I appreciate it.”
“If they are parent plus loans, they are responsible for paying them back not you, regardless of whatever verbal agreement you had. You need to sit down with them and discuss this. Figure out what the principal amount they borrowed is and where did it go? Ask for an accounting and go through your personal account to figure out how much they actually paid to your school. No way should you pay back money that they over borrowed and your dad invested. Have your parents pay the loan back directly to”
“Some will. It is a coin flip. I’ve got them to cut the interest rate. Refund some late or over the limit charges. Just asking nicely went a long way. And every little reduction in interest is that much less you pay on the loan. Going from 25 to 20% would save you roughly $650 per year. See if you can get to 9.99% or less ideally. Keep making the same payments and your debt will decrease and an accelerating rate. Also chunking down $4,000 will turbo charge the paying it down. Any refunded fees (m”

“I've(21m) been trying to stay on top of my bills, but an unexpected expense this week completely threw off my budget. I don't have enough in savings to cover everything, and I'm trying to figure out the least damaging way to handle it without creating a bigger problem later. I've never taken out a personal loan before, so I'm honestly not sure if this is the right move or if I should be looking at other options first. For anyone who's been in a similar situation, what did”

“I applied covid loan but failed to pay till last year. I paid $1000/month then increase to $2500/month. However I got a letter that my account was transferred to treasury program where they sent it to collection. Total I paid $20000 till May 2026. The collection now sent me bill with $32000 on top of my loan. Anyone got same issue? Any advise on this? “I have an education loan of ₹2.76 lakh. The loan is disbursed semester-wise, and every month the interest on the disbursed amount is being debited from the loan account itself during the moratorium. My doubt is: suppose the sanctioned amount is ₹2.76 lakh. If, due to accumulated interest being debited from the loan account, the outstanding reaches ₹2.76 lakh before my course ends, what happens? Will the bank: Continue disbursing the remaining education expenses as per the original sanction, with”

“Is opening a second bank account a good idea to help get out of an overdraft? Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on my debt, I’m currently around £4,000 into my overdraft and it’s slowly getting worse and can never seem to pay it off. I work full-time and earn roughly £2,500 a month after tax. I own my home outright (no mortgage), but over half my wages go on bills. The issue is that my wages go into the same account that’s overdrawn. When I get paid, the overdraft reduces, but once all my”

“Call your mortgage company and see if you are eligible for loan modification to either get a lower monthly payment, or to tack the missing payments onto the back of the loan. I realize things may be different in the UK, but SOMETHING should exist.”
“Best you can hope for is to talk to your bank and see if they will refund any over draft fees if you have any.”
“I’m in the UK and I’m looking for genuine, legal ways to raise £2,000 asap I know some people will probably wonder how I got into this situation. The truth is, I was always good with money. I owned my home, paid my bills on time, had a good job, and never imagined I’d end up here. Then life changed dramatically over the last year, and I’ve fallen behind on my mortgage payments. I’m now at risk of losing my home if I can’t catch up. I’ve already looked into loans and I’m struggling to get approve”
“It says yes according to the questionnaire. If I’m reading it correctly, the eligibility stops after graduation so the years since graduation wouldn’t be eligible but the interest charged for the time I was actually in school is. So that would be from age 17 to about age 45.”
“I need some advice on getting a personal loan. I need about $2, 000 to move for a job. Tried getting one through my bank, but they denied me because I don't have a long credit history, and my account finances are never consistent, even though I have a job. Tried to get one through Discover, but they told me I also don't have a long credit history and “too few accounts in current status”. So I need some advice. I have about a 657 credit score, and I have never missed a payment of any kind”
“Idk what to do, in my head I feel like I’m in a position where every pay check I need to gamble it to try pay off debts but I know that’s not right”
“Thanks for the advice and yes I know the first step I need to take is changing my habits I just have to follow through with that. What kinda things do you think the loan company would offer or say back to me if I tell them I can’t pay again for the 2nd month ?”
“As others have mentioned, first step is to pay off any owed money. I would imagine some of the online banks will take you.”

“I pulled my credit and score is around 620. No bankruptcy, liens, or judgments. Good. However, I have one medical collection around $1,000 that I didn't know about. I’m paying it tomorrow, plus I have some 60 day past late payments on my auto loan. Fine. That's not a deal breaker. Once you pay off the medical debt, it should fall off immediately. They are more worried about people with legal problems, bankruptcies, serious financial liabilities. They don't require employees to have p”
“Not true at all. The 383 is correct to pay the loan on time. People PLEASE check maths before posting on a finance sub. “Seems so dishonest to give a payment amount that doesn’t actually cover The amount of the loan over 72 months if 383 a month didn’t cover it why give her that number?”
“There is no way 60 payments was made and 11k is still remaining. If this is true, there is no way the loan will be paid off in 12 payments at maturity at 383/month. In your shoes, I would call asap the institution holding that loan and demends in details everything about this loan. If indeed 60 out of 72 payments was made on time, the remaining balance would be the balance value of end of year 5, which is around 4k. That is why we are worried. Either the app is wrong or some missed payments, etc”

“The downvotes are because there are a ton of posts from people who justify taking payday or similar predatory loans to cover an emergency. And there are tons of posts of people who took one loan to cover a shortfall and are stuck in an endless loop of taking one loan to pay another off or having multiple loans at once and are drowning despite having repaid multiples of what they originally borrowed.”
“Everything you’re saying - really on all of your replies on this thread - makes complete sense to me, and I don’t understand all the pushback and down-voting. Good grief, not everyone is physically able to tolerate the same solutions as others are. (Example: This sub recommends plasma so often that I wonder if the name should change to plasmafinance, but I’m not physically able to get it drawn out of me because I’m too petite.) In any case, if the OP is prioritizing staying alive then that shoul”
“We are just praying, literally praying, every day. Our SAI is $25,000 (I don’t know how, but it is). We planned around Parent PLUS loans being PSLF-eligible and some kind of reasonable repayments; we worked and would continue to do so until we were 70 if we had to, so that our kids could go to college just as we did. Now, we just pray every day that the same government that took that eligibility away in a matter of weeks will restore it, or something like it, in two years. It is all we can do: p”
“The set back is the interest fees for the week? Suggest you calculate the amount and see if you’re comfortable. If not, I would seek other options like asking for one week extension from landlord or borrowing from friends and family. If you truly have a job you can prove that to the landlord and they should be pretty accommodating considering future rent payments will be timely”
“No I’m not a little light. It’s like the whole thing. I worked this entire week to be able to pay for it and i didn’t realize that it wouldn’t get paid out until next week and i feel so stupid. “Yeah just try and get someone on the phone. Usually with financial aid they have guidelines and the they ca make exceptions if you write a letter or talk to someone to plead your case. I’ve done it with student loans and hospital financial aid. In both cases my raw numbers didn’t fit their criteria, but my extenuating circumstances made me qualify.”
“She doesn’t need the original agreement. She needs the current agreement, because if she didn’t agree to their updated one, the card/loan would be closed.”
