“Could be auditory hallucinations or not. But I believe there’s a chance it’s real. Regardless it’s distressing af. They’re on a mattress up until the am through the night then when I get home from school. They try to be silent but sometimes just banging…”
“I recently moved into my first apartment and shortly after a young couple moved into the unit next door. 4-5 times a week they have incredibly loud marathon sex for several hours throughout the night. We share a wall. I am at my final straw after doing a presentation during my 6-9:30PM zoom class and at about 8:45PM they start going at it. The woman’s voice and exclamations could be heard clear as day by my classmates and professor and it was a horrible, awkward experience for everybody involved”
“Its also worth noting after the sounds depicted in the video our bathroom developed a extremely potent smell that smells of burning it was so strong jt made me nauseous”

I have a pretty high tolerance for noise but when I have to listen to their creaky bed like 5 times a week when I'm trying to go to sleep, it drives me crazy. Obviously there's no comfortable way to confront them about hearing each time they have sex. It doesn't go on all night long, thank god, but usually at the same time of the evening right after I shut my eyes and try to fall asleep. Or even during the”
“I moved into this apartment 4 months ago. It's an old historical building with very thin walls, so thin you can clearly hear conversations from upstairs and downstairs at a normal speaking level. I know that's not the fault of the renters, and I'm not bothered by any routine noise. Except for one thing: my upstairs neighbor does not know the pineapple rule. The first two months I moved in, every other day I'd hear loud mattress creaking and the headboard knocking the wall. They&#”

I can hear their squeaky bed sounds, and even sometimes moaning, from ALL the way on the opposite, left most end of the apartment (when I'm sitting up against the wall in my living room). I can even hear it when my bedroom door's closed. I hate it, I don't need to hear when they're doing it or know when they're doing it. I'll be doing my own thing and all of”
“For those who didn't see it, I had some serious issues with not only my upstairs neighbors but the kids at my apartment complex. TLDR: Upstairs neighbors were horribly loud for excessive periods of time, and the kids were running around the complex trashing stuff, harassing people, doorbell ditching, etc. Just being general menaces to society and the apartment manager was doing nothing despite myself and at least five other tenants complaining. I had decided to contact the regional manager a”
“Yes it’s very loud and isolated to my bathroom in my apartment. But my downstairs neighbor says she hears it too. I’m not sure I see a PRV inside my bathroom. I don’t think so? But all the water in my apartment complex is connected. We don’t have individual meters. Our landlord pays for water. And whenever major plumbing needs to be fixed, the water for the entire complex shuts down. Could the valve be inside the walls?”
“We're in a rented apartment and during the winter months (basically once the heating is turned on) we get crazy noises in the night and a constant low-level noise during the daytime. It doesn't matter if it's super cold during the day, it never gets as loud as it does at night on nights when it's less cold than the coldest day time temps. That itself is weird. The noises that I recorded have the following names (water factory, devil's dragon factory, buzz, buzz2, ships diesel”
“So, long story short. I've lived in this apartment for a little over a year. My upstairs neighbors, the entire time, have been so so loud. heavy, loud footsteps, banging at all hours, loud sex, big dog that sounds like an elephant running around upstairs, and they're musicians. I made a noise complaint through my complex awhile back and I think they may have talked to them because it got better for a little. But now its back in full swing. I feel bad because it's not necessarily thei”
“this was at like 8:30 pm on a weeknight iirc. video is blacked out bc some of my neighbors kids ran through it but this is what my apartment complex sounds like EVERY SINGLE DAY and my landlord doesn’t do a single thing about it! it sounds like i moved into a six flags or something 😭😭 submitted by /u/Grand_Blueberry_2726 [link] [comments]”
“my neighbor installed 2 giant HVAC units in our shared alley, NO permits. that part i usually dont care. BUT they are crazy loud and vibrating. both units are suspended in the air, about 10 feet high, about 6 feet away from my 2nd floor bedroom. this part i care! neighbor said he will take care of it. he hasnt for the past 2+ years. i filed 311 report. they told me to call 911. i call 911, they told me to file a 311 report. im stuck in a hell loop. “I’m not even going to get into the story right now but this woke me up at 5am. I hear sex along with my fan, can you hear that? submitted by /u/First-External6946 [link] [comments]”
“I'm on the top floor of a wood frame building, and every night from around 9pm-1am there is a strong intermittent localized vibration that shakes my bed. It lasts a few minutes then stops for a while, accompanied by a constant gentler vibration which I think is the downstairs HVAC. I feel like if it was a medical thing like an oxygen tank or a humidifier etc then it would be happening all night. Any ideas what it could be? submitted by /u/barking-potato [link] [comments]”
“My neighbor left a note today saying they can hear me having sex and was just “letting me know.” I am absolutely mortified and I feel just horrible. I know the walls are kind of thin but I had no idea it was this bad for them. They also said they can hear me talking on the phone and stuff? Fucking creepy. I feel watched in my own home. I know it isn’t really anyone’s fault, and they were kind in the note. Tonight I was watching tv in my room and they kept knocking on the wall. It sounded a littl”
“So I want some feedback on how you would deal with bad neighbors. For background, I believe these neighbors probably do some drugs, definitely an upper type of drug because it seems they never sleep and walk by like a hundred times a day. They will literally be up at 12-6am, walking by. They have caused problems for me such as intentionally making noise right when they get to my apartment, bedroom windows are located in the walkway towards the stairs, so they will stomp, bang on the railing and”
“A week into my new place—which I picked because it was so quiet. Around 1 am, I hear loud thudding and banging noises. It quite literally sounds like someone is moving furniture and banging it into the walls….except against the ceiling. I’m on the top floor and all the noises are coming from below. I would’ve just dealt with it if not for the screaming. Arguing, cursing, at one point one of the couple members was screaming for a full minute just at the top of her lungs while their partner told t”
“I'm just needing to vent and rant to someone. My wife and I moved into a "luxury" complex last October. We've had all the "luxury" apartment staples, including shitty sound insulation, leasing office being unresponsive, maintenance being unresponsive, poor quality construction, etc. The latest in the series of bullshit has been a nearly constant dripping sound in our apartments bathrooms. We've reported it to maintenance at least 3 times. Everytime they've clo”
“Hi Everyone, For at least a week now, there’s been loud scratching sounds every night around the same time. Im hearing them from the corner of my bedroom which has one outside wall and one shared wall (townhouses). Before I was hearing the scratching, I was hearing scurrying noises coming from the downstairs of my home. They didn’t come from one particular spot. I had my attic inspected and no signs of anything were found. The pest control guy also looked out front and saw no signs of anything.”
“This may be a very dumb question, but I moved into a new apartment. My old one was the top floor, so I didn't get very many if any sounds from the other rooms. I moved into the second story apartment, sandwiched in-between two others. I've only been moved in three days. There is a semi-constant 'thumping' vibration (no sound) that is more easily felt when sitting or laying down on a bed or couch. It doesn't sound like or feel like people walking upstairs. It happens all throu”
“A few days ago I made a post about our downstairs neighbors and their passive aggressive notes and filling noise complaints. Just wanted to give people an update. last post here Now they’re continuing to watch our balcony. If I step outside on the balcony and they’re outside they’ll just stare and point at our apartment. This has happened 3 times that I’ve seen. Now they’re banging on the ceiling whenever we walk around or move a chair. They refuse to talk to us so I don’t know how we resolve th”
“(Excuse the heavy bass - I increased the audio, but this is very close to what I hear in real life.) I [30/F] recorded this last night and showed it to management in person today - my 4th complaint in about a month (all other complaints are in writing via email). I have been trying to maintain what little sanity I have left. I've lived in my apartment for 2 years and have never complained about anyone. I'm never disturbed by light stomping, kids playing/being loud outside, or the usual t”
“I dont want to be next to one and I suspect the one next door is one because of the things I noticed. - i was told that this apartment was rented for an entire year but the "real" renters only stayed for a month - saw different people come and go even after the real renters left - heard sex noises from it even when the real renters were still around and the landlord says its supposed to be a family who stayed in it (noises were repressed omphs and repeated movement of a furniture like”
“That's where I'm at. I genuinely smiled with fondness when I heard my upstairs neighbor stomping around after hours of my downstairs neighbors bass. Yea🤪 submitted by /u/anon-i-mouser [link] [comments]”
“Something similar is going on at my place but it comes and goes. Knocking for a day then silence fr a few days and so on.”
“This video was taken while my upstairs neighbor was blasting bass-heavy music. Unfortunately, it is really hard to hear the bass in the video, but in person it is much louder and sends vibrations and rattles through my apartment. This has been happening almost every day since I moved in two months ago, sometimes from 10 AM until 2 AM the next day with brief pauses. I have complained to management multiple times. It has improved a little, but the problem is still there. I honestly think it is par”
“How do others feel comfortable in a studio apartment? Privacy? Organization? Strange noises? Voices emitting through ventilation ducts? My space is basically an old hotel room. Shower, bed and desk. I have been struggling to pay my rent on time, lost job and found new one but due to late fee and lockout fee / poor choices - I am behind... This is not an ad but I wanted to hear from others in similar situations. Also I found a solution that is not a loan or scam but again this is not promoting. A”
“Since moving in a month ago, I’ve discovered my upstairs neighbor rarely sleeps. They like to move furniture around at 2am, slam drawers, repeatedly drop heavy objects on the floor, roll across the floor back and forth in their rolling chair, etc. And then get up early in the morning and do it all over again. So I bought some noise canceling Bluetooth ear buds and sleep with those playing fan noise every night, all night. I check the decibel level on my phone and always play it at a safe volume.”
“https://reddit.com/link/1vauwse/video/3mgjknc0ldgh1/player Maintenance at my rental apartment keeps trying to brush it off as wind as I live on the 19th floor but I dont think thats the case. Noise happens mostly in humid/wet weather. submitted by /u/Living_Kick5189 [link] [comments]”
“Hi so, for context and background... My boyfriend and I are both 25. We've been living together for almost a year. The house we were previously renting had a major roof leak that caused mold growth that made me ill. We had to fully relocate due to the poor housing in general where we were living, so we moved to a completely different state. We have 3 cats and it was a rough search to find a place that allowed more than two, but we managed to get into a nice complex that allowed it. We just m”
“Hi LL friends. Sharing an update to the post HERE . Unfortunately, the noise has continued despite our landlord reaching out to them multiple times. Another outreach of some sort was done yesterday, and today, our neighbor played music at an even higher volume, and has begun slamming things as well. I am speculating, but it feels absolutely retaliatory. As a landlord, what are the general next steps you take in a situation such as this? We've asked our landlord for any insight as to next ste”
“They blast bass heavy music for hours on end, quite frequently. You can't really hear the bass all that well through the recording, but it's enough that even my phone was able to capture it a bit. I don't even mind the noise itself. I've got great earplugs that pretty much block out all the noise from the pool right outside my unit. They just don't do jack shit against the shaking from the bass. If this is normal, then I'm just going get a better job and move into a small”
“Sorry for a lengthy post. As title says, our downstairs neighbor has something in their bedroom (presumably a ceiling fan) that is causing a constant noise and vibration to happen in our bedroom. It’s tolerable during the day because if we are in our unit, we’re usually watching TV, listening to music, or talking. As you can imagine, it’s considerably worse at night when everything is quiet. I have tried a white noise machine, noise cancelling headphones with white noise, and sleeping on the cou”
“For context, I posted before regarding this, and got some advice to call the non-emergency police line and make a complaint, which I did last night. TL;DR: moved in a few weeks ago, neighbors sound like they are constantly face planting, slamming doors, dropping things, running around at all hours of the day AND night (including 11pm - 4am) like these people do not work or sleep idk what they do all day and night. It has been impossible for me to get sleep for the past few weeks and yes, I'v”
“Our upstairs neighbors are loud all week long. Doesn’t matter the day or time, it’s constant. Banging, thudding, dropping, stomping. It’s as if they’re doing constant renovations. It’s bizarre. Literally just posting this here to vent. I wake up at 6am every weekday for work and would love to be able to sleep in at the weekends. But no! I have to listen to them doing their DIY projects or whatever the hell at ungodly hours on a Saturday morning 🥲 Anyone else relate ? submitted by /u”
“Hello! I have been at my new apartment for a month now and things have been mostly quiet but last night around 3 AM the neighbors on the other side of my bedroom wall were having loud sex that kept me up for about an hour. It was mostly the sound of the bed frame banging the wall or the floors that kept me up not so much their vocalizations. Now, I’m happy for them that they’re enjoying themselves so I don’t wanna be a jerk. I was thinking of writing a very nice little note saying that I’m happy”
“I've been living in my apartment for about 6 months now with only one complaint. My neighbor's bedroom and my own seem to be sharing a wall, and about once a week I'm woken up between 2-5am to the sounds of loud adult activities that last about a half hour. I'm probably a "medium" sleeper, meaning I usually don't wake up in the middle of the night over small noises. However, it's really hard for me to get back to sleep afterwards, and it's been really messin”
“Like the title says, it seems that their master bedroom is right next to ours and we share a wall. I mean, everybody is entitled to have their fun, but they're almost like clockwork and start around 22:00. I can freaking hear their bed banging against my wall for at least half an hour and sometimes an hour, from time to time there are some other noises (yeah, those noises) but the banging is the worst of them all. What else could it be? I've tried to talk to them about it but my wife say”
“My neighbor is kind of a promiscuous moron who used to house vagrant men in her apartment until I made her life hell for it. (it was justified because the noise at any time of the day and night was just too much). She stopped but I still basically wage a noise war with the genius. (The third time I went to speak to her about the noise I told her that it was the last time, if there would be a next time, I wouldn't bother talking anymore) Anyway, my other neighbors talk to her from time to tim”
“Hi all, Last week my new nextdoor neighbors moved in. Initially they were kind of loud (sounded like they were moving stuff at 4AM) but it wasn't the end of the world. I figured maybe they were getting settled so I gave them some grace. Then the kids showed up... From what I've been able to see through my peephole, there's at least 4 kids with ages ranging from 5-13 (just a guess). There also appear to be two adults, which would make at least 6 people in a 2BR apartment . These kids”
“Just moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago. I thought it was the perfect location. Until the first night I noticed a loud humming sound that vibrates 24/7 coming from above my unit. It’s so severe I literally cannot sleep in any part my own place. It’s a nightmare. Finally I opened up the attic/ceiling door where I suspected the horrific noise comes from and I see this. submitted by /u/psychoderecho [link] [comments]”
“Something is sending ~50 dbA/70dbC noise & vibration into our apartment. LOT of different frequencies going on, it is loud af and the vibration is similar to being next to an idling semi. I think, but don't quote me on it, that it sounds like it may be coming through the ducts or is at least can be heard more loudly near ducts. Can feel vibration pulsing the walls and floors, audibly vibrates items in the unit against those walls. The room most impacted I believe is directly underneath t”
“I live in a second floor apartment with a couple above me. Nearly every single night at about 4:30 in the morning I get woken up by them having sex. Loudly. It literally sounds like their bed is going to come crashing through the ceiling. I don't care that people are intimate. If it were 4:30pm I literally would cheer them on... but it's not, it's during quiet hours and right above my head. I have grown to harbor sooooo much resentment towards these people whom I don't even know.”
“Just after signing my renewal, my new neighbor installed a surround sound system. After 2 nights of the bass bumping from their movie marathons into quiet hours, I knocked to let them know the bass was going straight through our shared wall. They turned it down for the next couple of days, but then it was right back to hours of rumbling bass into my apartment. Since talking to them was clearly not getting anywhere, I complained to the landlord. They were clearly pissed after the landlord contact”
“Spoiler: it worked. "Hi, it appears to be loud music coming from this unit. Unfortunately, it's shaking my furniture and my supervisor on Zoom thinks that I'm the one playing the music. If you could kindly adjust the volume, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much!" I had no supervisor on Zoom and my furniture wasn't shaking, I was just super annoyed. However, I strategically worded my note this way to COMPLETELY remove emotion from it, and instead of me offering w”
“Especially if you hear outside of the "quiet" hours? My boyfriend and I are quite loud, but we usually make an attempt to avoid loud sex unless if it's during "normal hours" or Friday or Saturday night. One neighbor has left a note asking us to be quiet, though. As inconsiderate as this sounds, should I ignore it? The only time we've had loud sex outside of "quiet hours" is during a Friday or Saturday night. I also live in an area with a lot of grad students”
“I moved into a new apartment that is not cheap and this is the noise that comes from the mechanical room all day (I'm guessing it's from the HVAC unit of my downstairs neighbor since I'm on the top floor). I informed maintenance about it, the guy said it's a normal fan noise, but I don't think that's true and I don't think that I should cope with this especially with not being able to sleep sometimes even with earplugs. I don't have access to the mechanical room i”
“I ended up moving to a different apartment because of that kind of noise. The heating system duct work came to an end at my apartment so the vibrations made this thrumming sound. Was this constant cycle. Not much they could do to correct it. The next tenants have not had any problem with the noise. Everyone has different tolerance to certain noises.”
“Absolutely nobody has told you that they can have sex as loud as they want, you said yourself that they're not very loud. They were loud one time and now every time you hear furniture moving you get upset because it reminds you of that. It really sounds like they are keeping the noise down but you're still upset by your own thoughts of them having sex”
“If they have loud sex all day every day I’d understand where your coming from but based on your post and comments they did it exactly once and now they’re quiet but you’re still upset because their furniture moves. You shouldn’t live in an apartment if you can’t handle the sounds of other people living. The walls are thin. That’s part of the deal.”
“Thank you. I thought most people here would say to tell off the neighbor or do something to make them stop. But I am apparently wrong in complaining about the loud sex noises my neighbors made. That my neighbors can continue having sex as loud as they can as I do not have a life if I interefere in their sex life. I dont know when people forgot that it is basic human decency to respect your neighbors which means people can have sex but keep the noise to yourselves.”
“I played Charley Pride’s “Someone Loves You Honey” to tease them and let them know I could hear. My neighbors stopped. That was the best I could think of. It was either that, yell at them, have an awkward conversation with a stranger, or have an awkward conversation with management. I chose humor. According to the assholes in this sub I should have to leave my apartment walk to the apartment of a person I have never met and explain to them that screaming sex sessions at 5am on Sunday mornings ar”
“If you can learn to sleep with a tv on I feel it helps drown out anything around you.”
“my neighbors who have since moved would do this across the parking lot with their windows open and it would echo. i think they got off on people hearing. i just tried to ignore it”
“"What would you do if you heard you neighbors have very loud sex?" .. get a life of your own.”
“You say that you don’t care that they have sex, but you obviously do. But people are going have sex, even loud and enthusiastic sex, in their homes. Not a lot you personally can do about that on their end , nor should you want to. And it’s a good sign of mutual respect that your neighbors have already made adjustments on their end, an adjustment in response to your simply playing loud music. The actual loud sex issue has been addressed by your neighbors. Like you said, you don’t hear loud noises”
“I realised that my neighbours must have the same landlord and furniture as me, because their bed makes the exact same squeaking sound that mine does. Damn those cheap headboards.”
“I had this issue and after a few times I actually went down and banged on their door and ask that in future they keep it down and don’t do it at 5am. It was so loud that it was waking me up at 5am in the morning and after enduring that for multiple days in a row I cracked and confronted them. To be fair the woman was extremely respectful and said she hadn’t realised we could hear. She was mortified and I actually felt bad, but thankfully we never heard it again. I honestly wouldn’t mind except t”
