“I have a 14gal Cube planted aquarium I originally wanted for a Betta, but now I've decided on a shrimp-focused tank. I wanted to add a nano fishy, but can't decide which one or if I can even. I'm so worried about the shoaling space, so I've researched that chili/strawberry…”

“I hope I'm not asking a repetitive question. I am looking to build a 35L (approx. 9 gallon) Dennerle cube. Ideally I'd like to add neocaridina blue dream shrimp. Could I potentially add pygmy corydoras and/or rasboras? I really don't want to add fish if it's too small. I see…”
Several posts express concerns about acrylic tank durability, fish health (scoliosis, Popeye), and breeding challenges. Users seek advice on tank maintenance, species selection, and addressing unusual fish behavior.

“Hi everyone, I’m looking for firsthand accounts from aquarists who have kept zebra loaches together with Amano shrimp. Is this possible, or do the loaches almost always eat the shrimp? I’ve found both types of reports online—some where the two species coexist without any problems,…”
“Hi all, Looking for some advise to keep my shrimp happy, i have a 91l tank which is planted. At the moment there are just a small number of fish in residence some cory dory, a single sparkling gourami and then 3 shrimp. My plan with this tank was a slow set up. Everyones been in a month now, all parameters have remained stable. My shrimp just don't seem to move about too much, they definitely do move but very very little. They are always in this little plant, there was one day I saw one zoom”
“I have wanted to purchase some fun, tropical freshwater fish for years - but since it will have to go in the living room, she wants a tank that looks clean and minimalist. I’m a little overwhelmed by the options - could someone recommend some 10-12 gallon tanks with a sleek look, super-clear glass, and decent quality? Only looking to put 1 or two fish in there with minimal to no plants. I like the look of the 12-gal Fluval Edge, but unfortunately it appears out of stock in most places in the U.S”
“My partner just picked up 2 small 5 gal tank from fb market for free. They are plastic. I'm concerned putting a heater in these will melt the plastic. Might put betta or shrimp in them for my kids. Don't know what else other than snails can go in this small of tank. submitted by /u/Additional_Skin_3090 [link] [comments]”
“I currently have 2 BN plecos in my tank, a large bushy calico male and a smaller (lemon blue eye?) female. They’ve been in the same tank for about a month now and NOTHING. Has anyone been successful? I want to get some cute calico babies submitted by /u/Secure-Excitement844 [link] [comments]”
“This crap on my acrylic. If it's hydra, what fish will eat it that will get along with my angels? I have a pack of no planaria, and there are few to no snails in the tank, but I have hesitated to use that stuff. submitted by /u/Jzzhn [link] [comments]”
“Hi all. I recently inherited a tank with a pleco and an angelfish from a neighbor who passed away. When I picked up the tank I asked the child or the passed owner, what they fed the pleco since there was only food for the angel fish. They said that the pleco just eats whatever falls to the bottom that the fish doesn't eat, and algae forming in the tank. Well this doesn't seem like enough to me. I did my research and saw that they should have algae wafers but have seen some info about oth”
“Hi everyone! I’m new to the hobby and have had this aquarium for a few months. It’s around 20 liters and currently houses 5 guppies, 2 snails, and around 10–15 shrimp. For the past two months, I’ve been trying to figure out why my water parameters are the way they are. My GH has consistently been above 16 dGH, my KH is around 15 dKH, and my pH fluctuates between 7.6 and 8.4. I’m having a hard time understanding why these values are so high and why my pH keeps fluctuating so much. I live in the N”
“I bought a secondhand 180 gallon setup which included the tank, stand, and sump. It's been a struggle getting the sump set up and working, but I'm finally on week 3 of cycling and was hoping to get fish soon. Every time I check underneath though, there's a hint of water at the bottom edge of the sump (sitting on a waterproof flooring), and it can take a couple paper towels to absorb it. I've never done sump stuff before, and at this point I'm looking at over $130 to replace i”
“So I've been in the hobby since I was young and this is a first for me. I have a designated brine shrimp and vinegar eel tank to feed my fish with, the tank is the cube tank pictured, it has had all the same things in it for several months now, a stick, hornwort, and a couple of snails. I have hatched out batches of brine shrimp multiple times in this tank over the months. A week ago I added another batch of brown shrimp eggs and when they hatched some spirulina for them to eat. Yesterday mo”
“So I’m currently deciding what I should put into my 60l/16gal rectangle tank. I currently have Neo shrimps. However, my water is very hard (like 17 dGH) so I only really think that these are the only two good options (I really want to avoid live bearers). Also, I’m thinking about adding a honey gourami, and my water temperature is like 24degrees without heater due to the room being heated (ik it’s a little warm for wcmm, especially maybe in summer). Has anyone had any experience with any of thes”
“I have a 30 gallon tank with two yoyo loaches and a clown plecco. The yoyos are about 8 years old and around 5 inches and the plecco likely a year old. I know yo-yos get big and need a lot of space and prefer a group of 6-8 at least. What size tank would be a good home for them? I probably wouldn’t put anything in it besides the loaches and their plecco pal. submitted by /u/smellydong4182 [link] [comments]”
“Got my 120 L aquarium, with 6 rommynoses, some red shrimp, different snails, and 4 armano shrimps. Had two at a point CPO's but they died on me. Going to a aquarium/exotics fair this weekend. So wanna use some cash to update my aquarium. Maybe get some more fish some rummynoses or some other small fish like danios and some plants. Any ideas you want to share? 😊 submitted by /u/UserPiece3 [link] [comments]”
“I picked up this 55 gallon custom acrylic tank on fb marketplace since it has almost 6sqft footprint which is good for my bottom feeders, but was used as a reef tank before with a sump and I'm not sure if I should take it all out or if it would be good for what I'm going to have going? Will be sand substrate with a submerged "planter" of aquasoil for plant growth, with bristlenose and various small-med catfish (banjo and farowella), java loaches so all fish that like to dig in”
“hi! I was gifted a 10 gallon by my parents since they know how much i like fish, but when I measured the glass it was 1/8th of an inch, which seems less thick than my other tanks. will this be a problem for filling the tank up with water? I dont want it to bust everywhere, and if it is too thin for fish I could use it for some insects. thank you!! submitted by /u/thiiingamajiiig [link] [comments]”
“hello I am new to this hobby and wanted to get a 20 gallon tank the rimless ones look very cool is it worth it? is the glass quality that much clearer? also I am seeing a 17 gallon tank for a good price does this really make a difference compared to a 20? I want to do a planted tank with shrimp corys and some gourami or something like that submitted by /u/podrick867 [link] [comments]”
“So I just set up this new tank, and I’m worried about how small my shrimp are. I have 3 Harlequin Rasboras in there right now (soon to be more) and 5 cherry shrimp who are floating around in their container. I’m wanting to release them into the tank, however I’m worried the fish will eat them with how small they are at the moment. But my Rasboras also might be small enough to just not eat them. Should I release them into the tank or wait until the shrimp get bigger?? submitted by /u/”
“I really want a betta but unfortunately I can’t, is there any other options other than shrimp even tho I’ll most likely get shrimp 😭 submitted by /u/Just-Shock4940 [link] [comments]”
“Hello guys, I have this 5.9 shallow tank that I plan on putting my extra shrimp in since they are multiplying like crazy in my main tank. But I was wondering if it’d be ok to put in like 4 or 5 pygmy corys in there cuz I think they’re really cute but at the same time I keep seeing mixed answers on what tank size they need since I see people say 10 is a must or that 5 is fine. What do you guys think? 🤔 submitted by /u/Jazzlike-Block-8306 [link] [comments]”
“We have a 20 gallon tank and started with two male platy’s. Platy 1 started as the bully to platy 2 but now that the tank is cycled and stabilized, platy 2 has become the aggressor. They don’t hurt each other just chase/hide. I’ve read that having two can sometimes put all the attention on each other and that adding a 3rd might help spread out the hierarchy. Do any fish experts have any advice on the matter? submitted by /u/Enough_Turnip518 [link] [comments]”
“I have a mature moderately/heavily planted 20 gallon long with a Fluval AquaClear HOB. Originally had a group of neons but I am down to one sole survivor (the neons were bought in 2020) and about 2 years ago adopted three SAEs that needed a home. My neon friend is still very happy and healthy and enjoys his SAE roomies who are pretty mild mannered albeit a bit skittish. Wondering what some good additions might be? My first thought was adding some amanos or neos or possibly a mystery snail.”
“I’m wondering if I can put a soft plastic plant in my shrimp tank very temporarily. Long story short, I was ‘given’ (they were gonna flush all of them) some shrimp for my tank that had luckily just finished cycling. I have some floater plants in there right now, but it’s a newer tank and I haven’t been able to get non floater plants yet. Could I put a fake plant in for a day or two? I’m worried about it effecting the water quality, but the tank is pretty bare right now. submitted by”
“Need help identifying this little one. I purchased a 75 gallon tank last week of marketplace and the owner failed to mention he had this Pleco until I got there. He couldn’t keep it so of course I took him/her with me. If it’s a common I’m probably going to have to find it a new home. The owner has no clue what kind he bought. The previous owner said he bought it maybe last year or beginning of this year but doesn’t know what kind it is. It’s about 5-6” which is why I’m not sure if it is a commo”
“Hi! I'm an artist, I've been building my own aquarium hardscapes out of slate, wood, and 100% silicone for a bit. I'm wanting to make some other things for my tanks, but I'm not finding much on what is actually fish safe. I saw a five year old post about using flex seal on anything, but wasn't sure if painted polymer clay would be alright. I'm wanting to build a dock and a longship for my next 10 gallon project if anyone was curious lol submitted by /u/Sardoni”

“I have an assassin snail in my 10 gallon and I want to keep snails in a separate tank as a food source. It won’t be very many as I only have 1 assassin snail (I might get another, still not sure). “I have a 14gal Cube planted aquarium I originally wanted for a Betta, but now I've decided on a shrimp-focused tank. I wanted to add a nano fishy, but can't decide which one or if I can even. I'm so worried about the shoaling space, so I've researched that chili/strawberry rasboras are the best fit for a cube. I just want the best life for my fishies :( So, would nano rasboras be okay to live in a 14gal planted cube? Thanks for any comments submitted by /u/R7ZZ0 [link”
“We started out with 8 cherry shrimp and 10 tetras in this 15 gallon tank. All was well until the shrimp population exponentially exploded. The tetras became afraid and would cower in the back....turns out the shrimp were eating them. The survivors were moved to a different tank and missing fins or eyes!!!!!! One of the forums said to buy guppies. So we purchased three. They were happy playful little guys.....until the shrimp ate one of them!!! I regret ever starting a shrimp tank. This thing is”

“I’m going to make a mangrove lagoon setup for invertebrates (mainly upside down jellyfish and rock flower anemones) and am going to go with a 60 gallon breeder but I see the aqueon is 16 in tall and the imagitarium is 18 in tall. (They both have the same 18x48 foot print) I can’t figure out if shorter is better for ease of maintenance and light penetration or if it’d be better to have the extra hight to fit things in easier and have extra water (I’ll have a 20g sump so extra water may not mater)”
“(Pic unrelated to question) I’ll be replacing my currant 55 gallon with a 60 gallon breeder for more floor space for anemones and upside down jellyfish and wanted to do a sump with my extra 20 gallon tank instead of or to complement my canister. iv got most of the things figured out but was wondering what pump you guys would recommend for that. I guess a recommendation on what overflow box or other overflow mechanism I should use would be helpful too. Ideas on what else to put in this invertebra”
“I have a 1954 stainless steel framed aquarium. It didn't have a lid and pictures online aren't the best for what I'd need. I'm going to try and recreate one for my 29gal tank and was hoping maybe someone had an original and would be so kind as to send me some pictures. I need good pictures showing how doors were mounted, the underside, and a good set of pictures from the sides or at an angle. Potentially a picture on how it sits on the tank as well. I truly appreciate any help. &”

“Hello all, I am curious if anyone has hired a structural engineer to assess their unit for a medium aquarium, and how the process went if so. I have kept plenty of aquariums in the past, but have always lived on the ground floor, and in buildings two centuries newer lol. You can see why I'd be hesitant... My new apartment was built in 1870 according to the tax records and our large living room floor does deform if you bounce a bit in the middle of it lol. Plants nearby bounce their leaves fo”

Could I potentially add pygmy corydoras and/or rasboras? I really don't want to add fish if it's too small. I see some say it's okay, but is it truly? If yes, how do I keep the population at bay? “Hello, I have a mature/cycled 55 gallon aquarium that is lightly planted and currently has: 2 adult bristle nose plecos 2 baby plecos that will be rehomed when they are a little bigger 7 Juli cori cats 1 sole survivor swordtail (I don't plan to replenish this species) I would like to add shrimp and a schooling fish but could use recommendation on species and amounts. I think neocardina type shrimp as my pH is in the mid 7s. Please let me know some ideas! Pic is a recent one of the baby pleco”
“I really want to have a tank with these animals. I have a betta right now and I think he would be fine with other animals. What would be the best sized tank for them? I would also appreciate if anyone knows any good substrate/soil to use for a tank like this as I tried to have cherry shrimp in my current tank but they sadly died because of substrate/soil I have used in that tank because of the PH. Or even some good plant recommendations would be amazing! Thank you submitted by /u/She”
“My plattys had babies and now they had babies! They got their own dedicated tank to grow in and give me the third generation. “I am thinking of some scorpionfish on a smaller scale that could fit in a small tank for a bedside aquarium, I cant get stonefish. I have other species of scorpionfish like an Ambon scorpionfish and a leaf scorpionfish, i have a 65 gal with 2 Rhinopias in it, I don’t enjoy repetitive species so I need a new one that can fit in a 13.5 gal or less, any suggestions? submitted by /u/Conscious_Mouse6885 [link] [comments]”
“Hi all, I have got a mixed tank. Neocaridina shrimp, Amano and Neon Tetra's. My problems is that the latter two always steal the food meant for the neocaridina. I have tried a few self made items made from plastic cups, with holes only large enough for the small shrimp, but that is a bit ugly. I bought something from a store now, something like a reverse dish with a hole in it, but the Amano's unfortunately can enter the hole as well. What are your best options for this? I have a friend”
“Hi everyone! just looking for some help with my tank. I currently have a 20 gal long with 1 Clown pleco, 3 male red wag platy, 1 male guppy (the other 2 passed), 6 kuhli loaches, and 5 amano shrimp. I do weekly 25% water changes, I have a fluval AC50 on the highest level but with a baffle to slow the current. I got the platys and guppy(s) as my first fish in my 10 gallon and I knew the platy have a big bio load and they are poop machines but i feel like they are just producing a lot. They get fe”
“I’m planning to get a small Arowana (around 15 cm) and 3 Oscars (around 13 cm each) and raise them together from a young size in a 6-foot tank. My goal is to grow all of them together from a smaller size rather than introducing large fish later. Will they be compatible as they grow, or is there a high chance of aggression/fighting? If they can’t be kept together safely long-term, what would be a better setup? submitted by /u/Ok_Midnight_5765 [link] [comments]”
“I just restarted my main tank three months ago and now I set up another 20gal with a shrimp tank on the way. Also is it suitable for celestial pearl danios, otocincolus, and a neocaridina shrimp colony? Is there anything I would need to change to make it more suitable for them? submitted by /u/Mord3001 [link] [comments]”
“Always remember, a goldfish and common pleco may be cute and cheap when babies but they do grow very large. My LFS does not take in fish, but he felt bad and took this guy in. Be careful and always check to see how large your fish will get before you purchase one. This guy may look small from these pictures, use the net in the first pic to judge the size, it's over a foot long. I messed up not putting something in the pic to show actual size. submitted by /u/Animepix [link]”
“I acquired a 3 gallon and I honestly don’t know what I can ethically put in there. I already have a 20 gal with neocardina so I don’t really wanna set up a whole other tank for shrimp. What should I do with it? submitted by /u/il0vel0ve [link] [comments]”

“Hi all, Sadly I had to euthanize my 7-year old axolotl two weeks ago because of organ failure. Now the aquarium is still running with some shrimp in it, obviously freshwater, but I'm thinking of restocking the tank with a community of varied species. I'm more interested in invertebrates than in fish, so I was looking into turning the aquarium into a marine aquarium and house a sea urchin, starfish, some shrimp species and hermit crabs, alongside some fish. I would have to get rid of basi”
