“I wish we could get that on iOS. I know about the port someone made but re upping it every week is pretty annoying.”
Dedicated readers, particularly those using eReaders and audiobooks, are frustrated by the lack of seamless, self-hosted solutions for syncing progress, managing libraries, and automating workflows. They desire a unified system that integrates reading and listening experiences, handles both ebook and audiobook formats, and offers greater control over their data. Current options are fragmented, require technical expertise, and often lack essential features.

“For audiobooks already existing in the library, there should be a function that allows the user to correct the audiobook match (e.g., for a book that has multiple versions by different narrators, I should be able to edit and update to match to the correct…”
“I would like my books to be sorted by reading first unread second I have set it up like that in the shelf, no order setting seems to be applied (unread and reading books randomly interspersed between read books). I observe the same behavior on both my Android device and my Pocketbook on the latest version. The ordering seems to work with the other styles. “Happy bookorbit user here! Definitely #1, not exactly clear on what you mean by #2 but I think it does that too. Example pages: https://imgur.com/a/bC1QzWi [re: books server that can display public ratings from Hardcover and such]”
“Recently (the last 2 days), I have been having a major problem with Grimmory not adding the new books/audio that I add to the library. With a lot of persistence, I have to use the CLI to log in to MariaDB to remove the delete record(s) that cause it to hang, and it is a real PITA to try to do from the CLI. I seem to recall seeing a program not too long ago that interfaces with the databases, but I do not recall the name, or if it was what I am thinking it was. Is there such a program or a better”
“Feature Request: Support selecting entire libraries for synchronization (instead of only shelves) Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe: Currently, library sync.koplugin only allows selecting specific shelves as the sync source. While shelves are great for granular organization, they are less practical when users want to sync an entire content library while systematically excluding others. Describe the solution you'd like: Add the ability to select entire libraries as a s”
“Calibre is a decent route. Here's another that gets close to what you described without a dedicated plugin: Convert the epub to one Markdown file with Pandoc: pandoc book.epub -t markdown --extract-media=media -o book.md . If the epub has proper chapter headings, they come through as # headings. In Obsidian, install the Note Refactor plugin and use its split-by-headings command on that file. Each chapter becomes its own note. You can run it again on a chapter at the next heading level if you”
“Hi team, First of all, thank you for all the great work on the Bookshelf plugin! I would like to request a feature regarding series management on the main library view (Home shelf). Currently, the Home view displays all books (both standalone and series) as individual covers or spines. To see series grouped together in stacks with counts (e.g., 0/3), we have to switch over to the dedicated Series view/filter. Proposed Enhancement: Would it be possible to add native series stacking directly o”
“What went wrong? I've read one audiobook without issues, before v3, I believe. Now every one has the same issues, the audiobook itself saves it's progression but in the dashboard I see 0% always on the "Continue Reding" widget and they never appear on the "Continue Listening" shelf. I listened to a full one like this and just started another and see the same issue. Steps to reproduce 1. listen to any audiobook 2. go to main dashboard 3. it will always be at zero and do not appear on the Continue”
“Problem Online backup in the desktop app only works for a book that already has an online copy, such as one opened with Open from GitHub . For a book created in the app, with Keep a history of my changes on (a local Git repo, no remote), there is no in app flow that creates a GitHub repository and connects it as the book's online backup. Where your work is kept → Online backup offers "Set up online backup…" / "Online backup details…". Both lead to Book settings → Connections . Connections shows”
“To follow up a previous post. I have not had any luck finding a working option for what I need. All I need is something to clean up and organize my existing ~1k audiobook collection. Personally I’m not a fan of the heavy automation and prefer to pick what quality/edition I want. So all these readarr replacements simply have more features than I want/need. The library is loosely author/series/title but some names are pretty messy or lacking info. ABS already has everything cleaned up with the pro”
“In the home panel and the library panel, the progress indicator of the book I'm currently reading sits at 0%, despite being on chapter 11. Opening the book opens to chapter 11. However, in the "On this device" section, the progress bar under the book is correct.”
“Summary Follow up to 388. Thank you for the new Tracks and Ebook filters in 1.12. They help a lot, but they don't quite cover the "show me only audiobooks" case, so I'd like to request a single Type filter: Audiobooks or Ebooks . Current workaround and why it falls short To hide the 2,300 standalone PDF/ebook items in my library, I filter by Tracks: Single Track . That hides the PDFs, but it also hides every multi track audiobook (books split into several files). So there is currently no filter”
“Hi, i want to set up book Orbit with Annas Archive I am supporter on AA and have Access to the api but idk how to set it up. Thanks in advance submitted by /u/GladReport5255 [link] [comments]”
“Mia? Didn't they just put out a new version last week? Are you thinking about booklore?”
“Please look into Storyteller. I t is a great application that can combine and sync an audiobook and epub book together so that you listen to the book and then when your reader, start reading right where you left off. it uses epub3 to accomplish this along with other code. It even has an andoid app. If it had the fell and features of grimory or bookorbit it would be topnotch. I think the developers should sync up to share ideas or make the perfect self hosted reading app.”
“Are you doing anything for ebooks? Running calibre on mine but wondering what others do.”
“So right now I have BookOrbit and Grimmory running. BookOrbit has a slightly better UI and is easier for my wife to access audiobooks, otherwise I would ditch it and just keep Grimmory, I read about all the drama and have read BookOrbit's developer owning up to his previous drama, I was not in the scene when all that happened, but I am very careful, I have multiple copies of my eBooks and audiobooks so if BookOrbit goes rouge, I can pull the plug and not loose anything.”
“sounds like the bookshelf view in Calibre? https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/en/gui.html#id32 your idea is more purposebuilt”
Better late than never LMAO but both look cool i will look into them! thx for sharing
“You have now two options for wearOS: https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobookshelf/comments/1wspr6n/audiobookshelf_for_wearos_nortlinos_my_niche/ https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobookshelf/comments/1wph18s/new_native_wear_os_app/”
“I'm actually okay with the mobile app. There's only been a few errors that I couldn't figure out on my own, but they were generic enough (SSL certs, unsupported format, etc). I think Shelfmark came up once or twice when looking at buidling this pipeline. If BookOrbit's inregration between requests and Prowlarr fails, this might be the next one.”
“Hello! I started my self hosting journey with Plex many moons ago, and have gotten into ebook and audiobooks since becoming a parent. I spun up Sonarr and Radarr for getting titles on Plex, and it's spoiled me for automating searches and content acquisition. I'm turning to the community because AI has led me down several rabbit holes, and some apps come close but they are either clunky, missing functionality or unintuitive. I'm trying to replicate the Plex experience for media servin”
“Tachidesk seems to be archived. Is Calibre not suitable for this kind of books?”
“Version: 0.8.4 · Install: Unraid, Browser Steps 1. User adds a new series to their library 2. Wants to flag it for Read later so it's easy to find again 3. Finds Read later only available per issue, inside the reader or issue details, has to repeat it for every issue Expected A way to mark an entire series (or all of its unread/new issues) for Read later in one step, so new additions do not get lost while only individual issues can be flagged. “What's your idea? Add support for monitoring external reading lists or shelves and automatically creating BookOrbit Requests when new books are added. My immediate use case is Goodreads public shelves, particularly "Want to Read". I currently use LazyLibrarian to monitor several Goodreads users — for example my own shelf, family members, and public reading lists. When one of those users adds a book, it enters the acquisition workflow without me having to continually search for new books manually”
“Seems great and I am curious to get my hands on it. But it won’t let met activate it… any idea why?”
“Personally, I don’t like either but a lot of people asked for it, so... I prefer downloading my books and reading them offline.”
“book streaming sounds like a great way to find out exactly how slow my wifi is lol”
“Hey everyone! I just wanted to share EverReed here. It’s been out for a few months now, and one of its main features is support for personal ebook libraries through OPDS. You can connect your existing OPDS server and access your books in it without having to move your library over. I’ve been testing it with setups like Calibre, Kavita, and Komga. It also handles the other side of your reading library — keeping track of books and series, reading progress, and what you want to read next. I am open”
“What's your idea? Is there a way to add a new menu option to the plugin to do a manual reading session import into the koreader sqlite file? What problem does it solve? This would provide those who say are away for a few days but are reading on their phones or other devices to then sync up to their main ereader. While it already syncs books, sessions, progress and the like it would then preserve the reading streaks and calendar views of when you read books. Other issue is that when reading betwe”
“It really has a beautiful UI and works really well for me for ebooks and audiobooks.”
“Thanks, I have to check it out - got a kobo and have been looking for the ideal solution. Tried calibre-web-automated so far, but was looking into Kavita, lazylibrarian, etc”
“I recently added Calibre NextGen to my homeserver and it’s really cool because I can press sync on my kobo and all the books I add to my library will sync wirelessly to my eReader.”
“Yep! We also try to sync up your progress in both formats. I haven’t been able to get it to work as well as something like audible, but it’s done pretty well for us!”
“I wanted to add my self hosted ebook OPDS catalog as a shelf, but Bookshelf always reports as there being nothing there. This is despite this OPDS catalog working totally fine in KOReader;'s native OPDS catalog browser. Bookshelf v5.1.2 KoReader 2025.10 What happens: Adding the catalogue as a shelf empty shelf. No category tiles (Unread, Recent, Authors etc.) ever appear, so there's nothing to drill into. Expected: The same catalogue works in KOReader's built in OPDS browser on the same device:”
“Concordance: keep your place between an ebook and its audiobook (KOReader + Calibre-Web-Automated + Audiobookshelf) I read on a Kobo and listen in the car, and I kept losing my place between the two. Whispersync solves this if you buy everything from Amazon. I don't, so I spent a while building something that does it for a self-hosted stack. Read a few chapters on the Kobo, open the audiobook, and it starts just before where you stopped. Listen on a walk, open the book again, and KOReader of”
“Wondering what the easiest solution to my problem is. Shelfmark for ebooks has not really been working for me lately, so switching to myanonymouse. I can categorise torrents them as either mam-book or mam-audiobook, however how do I automate this to work with audiobooks to go to audiobookshelf library and ebooks to go to Calibre Web Automated? With calibre web automated the ingest folder destroys the file, so I can’t hard link can I? It seems it’s easier to hard link audiobooks but I still need”
Have you tried using SideStore? Might help you with that
Hey! It would be awesome if you could add a percentage completion indicator for audiobooks. It might sound like a minor tweak, but seeing your progress as a percentage is super useful…
“linkding does the full text search if you enable it, and it can fetch snapshots for offline copies. been on it for a year and it just works”
“I really hope this project sticks around and does not face the same fate as Booklore, we have been ditched once, trust doesn’t come easy. Grimmory refused to accept my patch for kobo annotation sync and I have to maintain my own fork for it. Will give Bookorbit a try as it has all the Kobo related features I maintain on my own for Grimmory. The move away from Java is compelling as well.”
“I wish we could get that on iOS. I know about the port someone made but re upping it every week is pretty annoying.”
“For iOS, Readest is pretty popular right now. You’ll need to make an account but you don’t need to subscribe to anything.”
“That’s a really interesting idea, I’m going to look into it. Connecting Audiobookshelf and Komga through the alignment feature could be pretty useful. Thanks for suggesting it”
“I don’t have a widows pc but this seems like something they would work well on a container. I use audio book shelf and komga and they both have APIs, I’ve always thought they should be able to talk to each other”

“Get an android based ereader like a boox go 7. use Calibre Web to sync it and manage the books.”
“Would it be possible to add Goodreads support to Bookshelf, similar to the existing Hardcover integration? There is already a KOReader plugin that handles Goodreads syncing: https://github.com/gkgangavarapu/goodreadskosync Ideally, Bookshelf could detect it and expose Goodreads linking, status, progress and ratings inside the Bookshelf UI, without reimplementing Goodreads support itself.”
“Mmmm I think that I have to install it for my wife 😂 is it easy to add books through a smartphone ? Maybe with a pic if the ISBN code?”
Great, I am going to try it out soon and give some feedback
“tbh, I use Audiobookshelf for both ebooks and audiobooks. You can use an ABS app that has an ereader included (Absorb or AudioBooth) and there are .koplugins for downloading books from ABS on KOReader”
“Interesting feature. A solid *arr alternative for ebooks is sorely needed. A small request to also support rtorrent or alternatively download the torrent to a specified folder that can be a watch folder for a torrent client?”
