“I am looking for a second opinion on our options. My main veterinarian believes his current severe throat noise, hard swallowing, and face-pawing are entirely driven by widespread, advanced tooth resorption and the fluid/swelling from it. Given his age and his previous severe blood pressure…”

“A little info on my boy. 7.5 yr old DSH male (indoor cat.) Adopted him 3.5 years ago. He has always been a bit of a drooler since i’ve had him. Anyways, 8-9 months ago he had 3 teeth extracted due to resorption. Lately (past 3 months) he has had on and off episodes of random sneezing with the odd nasal discharge from one nostril. We were told it can be common for their nasal passage to be irritated after a tooth is extracted near the area. Eventually it got so bad he couldn’t eat or drink withou”

She had a dental approximately a few weeks ago and had several teeth removed. She’s had teeth removed every couple of years and now has about half left. I took her in earlier than her usual scheduled dental check because she was pawing at her mouth after she ate. This would go on for about 10-20 after each time she ate, she’d do regular bathing but also be reaching both”

“Vet diagnosed my 2 year old cat with Lymphocytic plasmacytic stomatitis (LPS). He showed me. Parts of the cat’s gums and the part at the back of the teeth were red. This cat has no trouble eating and does not show any sick behaviors (i know cats hide pain well but he doesn’t have many of the symptoms listed for this diagnosis, yet). I pressed his cheek a little to see if he reacted and he did flinch. ETA his mouth is not as bad/red as the photos online! Healthy otherwise. The diagnosis was made”

“Eta: title says tomorrow, appointment is now today. My 14yo (MN) cat, Poptart, has a mass in his mouth. A vet noticed it last year while he was have a dental and teeth pulled. They suggested a biopsy, but I couldnt afford it. I've been watching him and he has been OK until about a month ago. He really started to slow down and had more trouble eating than he had before. This week I started noticing foul smelling yellow drool that is getting worse. I have a friend who is a vet tech who told me”

“My cat is FIV+, stage 2ish Kidney disease, has hyperthyroidism, recently discovered to have either small cell cancer or intestinal inflamation, and the vet said due to the steroids hes been on for the past week for those GI issues, has had a lovely flare of herpes. Homeboy is a orange neutered male, 13 years old, loves to play fetch, and started having horrible sneezing these past two days. Yesterday was better. He ate some food yesterday, but today his breathing sounds like me when ive got a co”

“My girl's a 12 year old spayed American Shorthair who's a little overweight. She's never been a particularly active or playful cat, but she definitely had personality and would come yell at us whenever she deemed that it was time to eat. About 4 weeks ago, I noticed she was acting lethargic and I'd frequently find her just crouched on all fours, which is odd because normally she's either laying down and/or sleeping. She also was barely eating, she'd have maybe a few bites”

“Hello, We took a 5-year-old female cat to a shelter three days ago who had mouth problems (gingivitis). The woman at the shelter told us that this cat receives injections of cortisone every 2 months for pain and drops every day for her immune system. Yesterday I tried to give her something to eat by hand, but her teeth brushed against my finger and she yelled and left to hide. We therefore took her to the veterinarian for his injection as well as a health check-up to see if everything was fine,”

Since then, there has still been a swelling on his gums, and it bothers him—he keeps picking at it. If only that were the only problem... But ever since the surgery, his usual bowel movement of every 2 days has stopped, and it has slipped to every 6–7 days. Most of the time he eats a lot; I feed him Cosma Nature chicken & salmon canned food, and Sheba Selection”

“My cat keeps rubbing his left side of his face against things. Not in the normal way, almost obsessively. He has also pawed at his mouth and broken some whiskers. Wondering if it might be dental issues. Gonna take him to the vet when I can afford to. Species: DSH Neutered. 5 yo. 9 lbs. Canada. “Please help! We (28 F and 30 M in the USA) have taken our cat to the vet twice. He is a 3-4 year old male medium haired neutered cat. The first time they told us he had fleas and we gave him his flea treatment as prescribed for 3 months. After the first month on the flea treatment, we noticed his skin was flaking SUPER BAD. At month 3 of the skin flakes, we took him back to the vet bc he was itching himself so much still and whenever we would touch his lower back, he would go into a licking fren”

“Hi everyone, on Friday I went to my local Chewy Vet Clinic to get my cat’s teeth checked out since she was drooling a lot with hints of red/brown and she stopped grooming herself. She has a case of stomatitis and needs to have 3 teeth extracted, but her cleaning isn’t until October. I’m concerned over the pain that my cat will be experiencing during the mean time since the cleaning isn’t until 2 months away. The veterinarian prescribed her 6mg of Onsior (robenacoxib) but that prescription only h”

“My cat Loki is a year and a half old (born Feb 2025). Back in February this year my girlfriend noticed his gums looked really inflamed, right over the teeth. I’d actually been brushing his teeth before that but stopped straight away once we saw it, didn’t want to cause him any more pain. We took him to the vet and they put him on antibiotics plus Prednidale (steroid tablets). The Prednidale wrecked his stomach so much so that he lost control of his bowels and went to the toilet in our bed. We we”

“The tooth/gumline doesn't look good to me and the gum around it appears red and irritated. I’m not sure whether the tooth is damaged, partially missing, or if there’s something else going on like resorption or gingivitis. I also checked the same spot on the opposite side of his mouth and I can’t clearly see a corresponding tooth there at all. He has not had either of these teeth extracted as far as I’m aware. He is still eating and behaving normally and I haven’t noticed obvious signs of mou”

“Hello! I’ve joined this community because im hoping to find some advice on what to do with my cat. She’s a about 4-5 years old. While I was petting her, I noticed that her teeth looked odd. After taking a closer look, I noticed that her teeth where slightly swollen and now crooked. I’m worried that she might have a jaw injury. The strange thing is that she’s acting completely normal and has no visible signs of discomfort. I would like to take her to the vet on Wednesday, but I’m scared that wait”

“Hello! I have a 16 year old female (spayed) cat who has stinky breath. It is not god awful but it is noticeable when she licks her paw or yawns in my face. She has had issues with her diet that caused her to lose weight and vomit and diarrhea frequently. She was prescribed Hill's z/d diet and it has helped her so much. I want to take care of her teeth and her breath but I want to make sure whatever toothpaste I choose will not flare up her stomach issues. I appreciate your time! submit”

“Over the last 2 years I’ve really struggled with my 12 year old cat. It all started with a visit to the vet about her teeth. Turned out she had tooth resorption. She had several teeth removed in 2024 and during that time the vet did standard blood work during the procedure. He did let me know her blood platelets were low but she had clotting during the surgery. He ended up sending the blood sample out to their lab, he explained that testing in house can show false low platelets. At the time I ha”

“Hello you good people of the internet. I’m a first time cat owner. Really worried about her gum situation. I first noticed that her gums were frequently red and inflamed about a year and a half ago. Since then, I’ve been brushing her teeth every other day and keeping a close eye on her gums. I’ve also been taking pictures every time I brush her teeth so I can keep track of any changes over time. Earlier today, while I was brushing her teeth, I noticed that the gum around one of her back teeth ap”

“My vet did not warn me that this is a very bitter tasting medicine for cats and that it can cause drooling Similar to metronidazole. I got the medication, googled it before administering to look for recs on how to administer to unwilling cats and came across that information. My cat has just been diagnosed with large cell lymphoma and I don’t think I can handle having to give her this medication everyday until she passes. We had such a horrible experience with metronidazole. Which version of Pre”
