“If a user accidentally deletes their workspace or account, and your backend runs a hard SQL DELETE command, that data is gone forever. Customer support will panic, and you'll have to manually dig through yesterday's database backups just to restore a single user. Here is how to…”
Developers are experiencing significant pain related to database versioning, performance, reliability, and tooling. They face challenges with schema management, data loss, slow queries, and a lack of robust, user-friendly tools to simplify database workflows. This often leads to repetitive tasks, data loss, and frustration.

“Thanks, really appreciate that! The planned vs actual time was actually one of the main reasons I started building this :) For sync, I went with Drift + SQLite for local storage and Supabase (PostgreSQL) for the cloud side. I ended up building my own sync layer on top of that, with a local outbox that queues changes when offline and syncs them once the connection is back. I also use a Cloudflare Worker to handle the initial Supabase project setup, but after that the app talks directly to Supabas”

“yes... we have been surprised by the backend engineers that don't. it is actually assumed if you are in a role that consumes data, you should be able to write a basic SQL and know your limitatations and considerations that would help you prompt and question AI on. [re: is the market cooked or is it flooded with mid people]”
“migrations are the silent killer nobody talks about in these launch threads. i've got a folder full of "final" schemas that never made it past the first paying user your one table rule is the only thing that's kept me sane, even if it means that table ends up looking like a garage sale by month 2 [re: Most SaaS boilerplates are over-engineered. Here is the minimal schema you actually need to launch on Day 1.]”
“Having the specs and decisions written down already puts you ahead of most people building this way. One thing I'd check though: when you changed the database structure this week, did the old decision actually come out of the spec, or is it still sitting there next to the new one? If Claude reads both in a later session it can build on the wrong one and you won't spot it unless you know what to look for. How do you keep the spec current when you change your mind? Do you edit it yourself”
“I’m a data engineer working on a side project called VraieSource, and I’d like some honest feedback before taking it further. The problem is fairly straightforward. Someone renames or drops a database column, but a report or dashboard still depends on it. The migration itself can succeed while something downstream breaks. When the SQL, transformations, and reports live across different repositories and tools, figuring out what’s affected can become a lot of manual checking. I’ve built an interac”
“Bug report [x] I confirm this is a bug in Supabase Studio, not my application. [x] I have searched the Docs, GitHub Discussions, and Discord. I searched GitHub issues and PRs for this specific defect; I have not searched private Discord history. Describe the bug With automatic row limiting enabled, SQL Editor changes a valid query containing LIMIT ALL or LIMIT NULL into invalid SQL. The shared applyAutoLimit helper recognizes numeric limits but appends another LIMIT 100 to these PostgreSQL forms”
“Version: 0.0.21 (self hosted Docker, Postgres) Context During a large migration I update editor managed data with scripts and SQL ( site.settings json : style rules and files; data rows.cells json , slug , versions). This is a common need for bulk imports and repairs, and nothing tells the operator what is safe. What I observed 1. The published site picks the change up after the next publish (the publisher reads the rows). 2. The editor does not. It works from the Yjs documents in collab documen”
“We usually compute features in lakehouse but serve from a separate postgres instance for low latency lookups. And the sync jobs between them could silently go stale. Did you try lakebase which avoids such incidents where model predictions could off because features are hours old. Curious if anyone has tried it and how easy or rough the migration is seeming like? Or is there a cleaner or different pattern you have adopted for keeping offline/online feature stores consistent? submitted by &#”

“Summary prisma/seed.ts imports ../src/generated/prisma/index.js , but the generator emits client.ts , and it calls new PrismaClient() without the pg adapter src/db.ts uses, so npm run db:seed fails to start. The sample addresses are 54 to 56 characters (some contain 8 ) and fail the ^G[A Z2 7]{55}$ check, and the placeholder application ids aren't valid UUIDs, so GET /ngo applications/:id returns 400 for seeded rows. Closed issue 64 asked for this script. Acceptance criteria [ ] Build the client”

“Definitely good to get some practice in for SQL. I like to think I’m alright at making queries, but you know how things can get rusty without constant, rigorous practice. Running the same things on my own DB could put me in a bad spot. If the time comes for one of those tests, I need to be sharp and dynamkcw I do enjoy query writing at least. It brought me joy in the dark ages of university. so it hopefully it won’t be too terrible of a grind Also good to review the basic syntax and order of ope”
“For me, JSON stayed right for config and small, rarely changed data, like a list of feeds or user preferences edited by one person. What pushed me to SQLite was adding a background job. The first time a scheduled task and a browser edit overwrote each other, I realized I was about to write a tiny, buggy storage engine. Switching to SQLite took an afternoon and removed a whole class of bugs. [re: “No database required” sounds simpler—but when is a JSON file actually the better choice?]”

“before moving everything to a vps i would check whether you need redis at all. for a hobby project a table in the neon database can hold the cache and the job queue, and render has its own cron job type you can point at the same codebase. that keeps it to two pieces that already talk to each other. what does the cron worker do and how often does it run? [re: Hobby stack on Render + Neon was fine until I wanted cron and Redis]”
“each service has their own specialty, render's postgres is fine but supabase gives you auth, realtime, row level security, and a nice dashboard out of the box. if you just need a database, render's built-in one works, but once you want user management or subscriptions or whatever, supabase saves you a ton of boilerplate [re: Why use different third-party services for deployment and storage?]”

“Hey all, I'm Denis, the author of Ptah, an open-source database migration tool. These are some of the cases I'm designing around, but I'm sure I'm missing something. What if the database changes after a migration plan was approved? Or the connection drops halfway through? How do you know what actually happened, and whether it's safe to retry? I'm trying to address these in Ptah, but I'm sure I'm missing something. For those running migrations through CI/CD, what m”

“Hey guys! Some of you may remember me, some may not, but SQLBuild has come a LONG way since I last posted. First, SQLBuild has now been in production at my workplace for over a month! Huge milestone, and I'm lucky to have a boss that let me do it. Second, I now have a much clearer idea of what this tool is and isn't. The goal is to make warehouses refactorable, such that they are easy and safe to change + kept that way over time. Catch mistakes before anything runs A compiler that unders”

“id go with bring your own postgres, at least to start. devs are pretty nervous handing workflow state for their production stuff to a new small vendor, and if you host the db you own their uptime from day one. a library that just needs a postgres url is way easier to say yes to doesnt stop you making money either, dbos and hatchet both do the open runtime + paid hosted cloud thing. you can add the hosted control plane and dashboard later once people already depend on the sdk and postgres alone i”

“How do you backup your data properly? We have Notion enterprise and have not been able to figure out a 3-2-1 backup strategy that works with incremental backups in Notion. Without it we are not willing to put OS type ops on Notion with vital single site data. We obviously can export pages, but there is no clear incremental or restore capability with that. How are these Notion users that are moving critical business functions to Notion doing it? We are huge fans of Notion and are using it for coo”
“Yeah mostly but it wouldn’t be a perfect experience. It’s definitely possible with certain types of applications to only have that but when people submit data back to the server the feedback time is pretty bad because it goes to the main server and then back to the read only replica. The best way to do it is to have a replica that can read or write and also reconcile. Depends on a lot of factors though. If you are talking russia and europe it’s probably good enough. If you’re talking canada and”

“I've started working with dbt and a cloud warehouse, where I'm thinking of moving from auto-incremented keys in favour of surrogate hash keys, both because auto-increment keys is not as much of a thing in cloud warehouses and also because hash keys are idempotent and much simpler to manage. One thing that I'm not sure of yet is this: If the surrogate key is a hash of the business key, should I self-hash the foreign key references in the fact table builds, or should I do the usual pat”
“Problem UpdateProjectStats in internal/db/projects.go is defined and never called anywhere in the codebase. It is also subtly wrong in a way that matters if anyone ever does call it: it rewrites last activity at via a MAX() over datetime text that the driver formatted as Go's time.Time.String() output (see 33), so the comparison is a string compare over values carrying a timezone suffix. “The scheduled Guardian run failed , which means something is broken on the live site. Run: https://github.com/TEARN1/The Gruvs/actions/runs/36867090615 One of these is true: Schema drift — a query no longer matches the database, so a feature is silently dead (this is how RSVP, Crews, polls and tickets broke without anyone noticing). Health — thegruvs.com does not boot, is throwing errors, or is no longer installable as an app. Open the run above for the exact failure.”

“Describe the Bug After updating to 11.1.0 and exporting a schema, we noticed a lot more changes than expected. Specifically the changes of type: uuid to type: string on foreign keys. Upon trying to apply this schema to our environment in the cloud we "luckily" got an error that it is unable to change the column due to a foreign key constraint: I say luckily, because this field is a char(36) field, as a lot of our id fields are which contain uuids. Why is Directus attempting to change this? To Re”
“Describe the Bug Hi team, when upgrading from 10.2.1 to 10.6.1 i was able to run directus locally. In my CI/CD pipeline it applies the latest schema snapshot that is created at every push to Github. But, the apply is not succeeding currently. Currently my pipeline works as follows: 1. Create a snapshot in my local environment 2. The push to github is being done. 3. Automatic deployment in Heroku is called. 4. npm install && npx directus bootstrap is runned 5. After that, my dyno is running npx d”
