“Hi, my golden retriever has a swollen ear. Vet said it was due to an accumulation of blood and is not painful and will go away on it's own. It's been a few weeks, don't see it reducing. Anyone else seen something similar to this? https://ibb.co/xtGRX9cx”
“My 75 lb male boxer has a buildup of brown gunk in one of his ears. He doesn't seem that bothered by it. He scratches at it every once in a while, but not often. Is it possible he just needs an ear cleaning at a groomer? Or is this something the vet should see him for?”
Multiple posts express concern about dogs experiencing ear issues, ranging from infections to injuries. Owners are struggling with scheduling timely veterinary appointments.

“Hi guys, I’ve a 4-5 month old lurcher x cocker spaniel who’s been having some issues. She’s a rescue and since we’ve got her 6 weeks ago she’s been having ear and itching issues. I do think she may have an intolerance to chicken so I will switch her food and I’ve cut out all chicken treats so that might play into it. I’m thinking maybe a bath might help her itching, does anyone have recommendations that should be available in Ireland? submitted by /u/Hugesmellysocks [link] [com”
“Hi 👋 Not asking for medical advice. Just opinions. I am pretty upset. And sorry in advance… this is a long post. Yesterday, I brought my dog in to the vet for a double ear infection. The vet tech came in, swabbed his ears, then the vet told me she saw bacteria and yeast and would be prescribing him Surolan. The vet techs then took him in the back for a cleaning. I brought him home to give him a bath, since he wouldn’t be able to have one for the next couple of weeks, dried him off and administe”
“TL/DR need advice on doodle with treatment resistant ear infections. I am a dog groomer and have a client who has a poodle lab mix (doodle) that is a female aged 2.5 years and has had one set of puppies that were premature from the eat affecting her system per the client. Dog is well nourished and very healthy in appearance with an excellent coat, body shape, great teeth, and good disposition and is more of a mid sized lab rather than a poodle appearance. No fleas or signs of parasites present.”
“https://imgur.com/a/43d6Uth Hey everyone, the link is a picture of the ear cleaning aftermath. This is from my 4 month old pups ears, she’s a rescue so not a great upbringing and she’s a floppy ear dog - I reckon a cocker spaniel x lurcher. We brought her to the vet nearly four weeks ago and she got a two week round of ear drops. We were instructed to clean her ears ourselves and she’s been getting really gross. I cleaned them last week and did them again today since she’s itching. I reckon she”
“This is not a medical emergency question nor am I really sure if this is actually a thing or if my dog is just weird…I have a red heeler, 3 yrs old, super active and healthy. Every so often we will be playing inside or outside like usual, nothing too rough just some fun time, and suddenly her ear will flop down, she will look uncomfortable and start trying to “shake out” whatever is up with her ear. Usually it resolves after a few hours and after a few good shakes. But it seems like nothing actu”
“Hello! I recently got a 6 year old fixed female black lab/golden retriever mix. A girl I grew up with found herself in a homeless situation and could not have the pup with her after having her since she was a puppy. She spent a week at an outside kennel, and just under a month with a family on a farm before finding her forever home with us. Previous owner said she’s never had any health concerns. During the process of introducing her to my other dog, we noticed the dog was shaking her head a lot”
“Hi all. I'm in need of advice on how to help my dog or just some words of assurance even. My Shiba Inu (Hachi ≈3.5y/o M 40lb) has been acting very funny this week. 4 days ago (Wednesday) he was not as active as he usually is. Hachi is a complete rascal, always on the move always jumping up into everyone's beds and messing up the sheets and playing with toys and running around the table with them. I guess on Wednesday he was just down in the dumps all day (I want to add that there are 4 o”
“6 year old female dog (pit bull, black lab mix), 72lbs in Los Angeles. History of aural hematomas with no ear infections. No excessive ear-shaking and not scratching at her ears. My dog has had four aural hematomas within the past year with no history of ear infections. They occur on both ears, I get them drained as they occur. Her right ear has developed the “cauliflower ear” along the auricular cartilage. Her left ear does not have the “cauliflower ear” but has recently developed a large hemat”
“3yr old female German shepherd has always had a calloused elbow but recently (past 3 days or so) has been licking it and now it’s red and seems inflamed, is it worth a vet visit or should I just keep it wrapped? It looks like a steak 😳😂 I have a photo should anyone want it but she has no other symptoms submitted by /u/No_Focus5309 [link] [comments]”
“A year ago I changed myn5 year old Australian Shepherds base food. He was on Fromm and I changed to Primal Kibble in the Raw. His ears dried out and got crusty shortly after. I put him back on the Fromm. Ive had his ears and skin checked at the vet several times. No ear mites and no yeast infection. We have tried a couple of ointments and I clean his ears weekly but they still crust up. The fur lost is near the opening of his ears. The rest of his body, skin and coat look great. Im.abiut to try”
“I'm 17 and have a 4 year old toy poodle named Huck. today my mother took me and Huck to the vet because he was having issues with his ears (got diagnosed with an ear infection in both ears) and the vet checked up on him in general. she said hes doing good but he needs a dental cleaning and gave us a chart showing us the different stages of dog tooth decay. she said that my dog is in Stage 1- Gingivtis and says we should get him a dental cleaning within 3 months, she also gave us online recou”
“My dog (9 year old hound mix, 45 lbs) gets ear infections in his left ear. He has always gotten them, but in the past couple years they have increased in frequency, and we’re now to the point where it truly feels constant. We’re going back to the vet tomorrow as he’s showing signs of pain in that ear again, and I’m wondering if there’s anything I can bring with me to discuss. We’re basically in a loop. He shows signs (head shaking, scratching, whimpering when we touch the ear). Our vet does a cy”

About a month ago, my dog’s ear started producing brownish clumps/discharge. Then it started producing pus, so the vets initially thought it was an ear infection. He was given a “3-in-1” ear ointment for 7 days at a time, but the ear continued to produce pus. Today they performed an endoscopic examination of the ear to check wheth”
“My dog started showing signs of Horner’s syndrome. We took our dog to our vet twice. He referred us to an ophthalmologist. The ophthalmologist told us it was most likely an ear infection and sent us back to our primary vet. I’ve tried calling to ask for a refund for at one of the appointments, but they won’t call me back even though they act polite and tell me the office manager is going to call me back. Is it common for a vet to miss an ear infection that causes Horner’s syndrome? It seems like”

“Hi, Chocolate lab, 8 1/2 years old, female. Overall healthy and happy dog. Eating normally. She has yeasty ears and developed what looks like the beginning of an ear infection in right ear. It’s red, slightly warm to the touch, no pus\drainage. I’ve been rinsing her ear with oxymed today for the first time. Please don’t come at me for not immediately taking to the vet, my husband and I are drowning in bills and I’m trying to do anything I can at home to avoid vet bills. I will take her if it doe”
“I noticed my dog had this strange bump on her ear about a week or so ago. It looked just small and pink at first but I boarded her for a little while and it seems to have blackened at the tip and split a bit. It doesn't seem to hurt her when I press on it and it is not bleeding or overly red or irritated. It is just hard to the touch. Im just trying to decide if I should take her to the vet for it or if it is most likely just a blister/wart or something. It is about half the size of a dime a”

“I will start by saying that today I will be making an appointment to physically take her in to see a different vet. In the meantime, I figured I’d pose my questions to the vet community on Reddit. My puppy is 20 weeks old (34 lbs) and I got her when she was 11 weeks (15 lbs). She’s a pure bred English Labrador. I don’t know how long to make this, I could talk all day about this situation so I’ll keep it brief and if there’s questions I can provide more details: When I got her she had fleas, an e”
“im worried about my puppys ears, specifically his right one. theres this cheesey smell coming from his ear and when he scratches it he sometimes whines. its not red or inflamed and he is not in pain when i touch it. today he woke up with his ears kinda pointing outwards (hes a bichon and he has floppy ears). is this worth going to the vet for? i dont have pet insurance at the moment. submitted by /u/carechimba_07 [link] [comments]”
“TLDR; My family dog has a ping pong ball sized age lump under her ear. It bleeds frequently, but does not seem to bother her, other than occasional itching. Currently my mom has been putting ointment on it, and covering it with gauze 24/7. Surgery (GA needed) is not a good option d/t age, finances, and other health issues. What OTC things can we do for this? I am not looking for specific treatment instructions, just advice. Suggestions would be very appreciated. Long story: My (family) dog has a”
“Will my dog and his ear be ok for 2 more days before his vet appointment? I just noticed this morning he’s bothered by his ear and I made his appointment but the earliest availability they had was in 2 days. Just within today I can tell it’s bothering him more bc he kinda growled at me when I tried to look again after I cleaned it earlier and he usually never growls at me. He’s not scratching or shaking his head super often tho so I don’t think it’s too bad rn— just sensitive but ik these things”

“Took my dog to the vet the same day he randomly began limping and was clearly in pain (likely due to sudden jumping / playing w other dog but we’re not 100% sure how this happened unfortunately). For context he is a 7 year old Shih tzu. The vet took an xray and found the dislocated femoral head > he was sedated > they manipulated the joint into place and said he would likely need surgery if it didn’t stay in place. Miraculously, he healed fairly well. He had a bandage on for 2 weeks and th”
“I took my 13 year old chihuahua to the river yesterday morning and we went tubing for abt 2-3 hours. She was on my lap most the time. She swam for maybe 5 minutes total with me picking her up in between & the water was kind of cold but it was 85 degrees out so she warmed up fast. She didn’t eat after we got home she slept for most the day I just figured she was exhausted from being in the sun and water since I was pretty tired too. We napped together but today she has been lethargic and hasn”

“I’m curious what the vets warned you the possible risks were? What mg/kg dose was he given?”
“Great, thank you! Yeah, he’s acting normal otherwise. I just get paranoid when it comes to my pet’s health lol”
