“Hello all, I’ve encountered a bit of a roadblock, you see, my 3.5 month old puppy and I have a solid routine going, we have schedules and stuff planned out, here’s the issue, lately I’ve noticed that my little puppy demand barks nearly 30-20 minutes before she’s supposed to be…”
“Hey, Basically title. We have a nearly 4 years old Corgi that I would qualify of highly "stubborn". What I mean is, if he "locks in" something he WANTS to do, like zoom in another dog to play, he's "impossible" to snap out of it and recall / interest. In a "calm" context and 1-1…”

Several users express concern about a puppy's inability to reliably respond to recall commands, especially with distractions. This makes off-leash activities and safety in larger areas difficult, leading to anxiety about the dog running away.

“I have a 5 month old English Cocker. Today at the vet, the doctor is telling me I really need to get her into a puppy class ... because she won't stand on the examination table? Every other time I've gone into this office, the tech/vet didn't even try to get the dog to stand on the table. They would examine her on the bench. Nothing but good, positive feedback. Until today. My dog doesn't want to stand on a table 3.5 ft off the ground. She wants to get back on the ground, and wou”
“i have a 4.5-month-old puppy. I actually have a long (4 day) trip coming up on the 1st of october and for that we have been trying to prep him. we send him to the hostel once in a few days so that he can get accustomed to it. we've left him at the hostel once overnight and two-three times through the day. unfortunately whenever he comes back, he forgets literally everything that i have taught him. he starts jumping and goes crazy, barks at everything, insane leash pulling, LITERALLY ONLY PIS”
“Hello everyone, my husband and I recently adopted a husky, German shepherd mix from a shelter. He is 5 months old and shows no signs of being a typical puppy. He never barks, he almost never whines, he doesn’t play with or even like any toys. Wont play fetch (literally watches the ball be thrown and just lays down). On walks he trails behind us with tail down, doesn’t sniff around He never gets zoomies and is just generally “lazy” I’m not sure if this is normal/some dogs are just like this? I’m”
“Hi all! I have a 10 month old Lab mix who has shown a ton of maturity in the last month or two. One thing we've been working on with her is free roaming while we're gone. The longest we've let her free roam so far has been a little over 2.5 hours. She's only had one incident where she misbehaved free roaming and I think that's because she had been asleep all day so she was bored when she woke up and we were gone. She ended up shredding my husband's shoe, luckily didn'”
“Hello, I have a 10 month old Keeshond and he is in the height of his teenage phase. He listens well to basic commands like, look, sit, down, paw, stay, etc. But when it comes to bed and place? he will opt to run away and hide.. I have tried to coerce with treats before, which worked a few times but after that he reverted to hiding again. The only way i can get him to go to his spot, is by leashing him and leading him there. But he will not allow me to leash him all the time, and he will jump up”

What I mean is, if he "locks in" something he WANTS to do, like zoom in another dog to play, he's "impossible" to snap out of it and recall / interest. In a "calm" context and 1-1 interaction, he listens well and he "answers" to the treats. So far, from what I can tell, in his head, the "ranking" goes like this: Other dogs >>>”
“Hi! new to this subredditt, thought I'd share my worries 😅. So my puppy is honestly an absolute angel until a squirrel appears, and then apparently I cease to exist 😂. I’ve been searching through this sub and noticed quite a few people have said their puppy’s recall is solid at home or in a quiet garden but falls apart completely once there’s a real distraction. That is exactly us. Yesterday we were having a perfectly normal walk, I called her back because we were heading home, and she spo”
“I have a 1-month-old Poodle x Chow Chow puppy, and I’ve only had him for 3 days, but I’m already completely exhausted and frustrated. I’m seriously considering returning him, and I feel guilty even thinking about it. I live in a shared apartment, so I’m keeping him mostly in my room. I have a small balcony where I take him to do his business. He usually poops there, and I also have pee pads inside because I have to keep the balcony door closed at night since it’s really loud outside. Sometimes h”
“Help! My puppy is about to turn 5 months old. She’s been with us for a little over a month. There are two other dogs in the house, another puppy and an 11 year old (not ours). She does great in the house, knows her name and actually responds to it, does multiple commands with no issue. However, as soon as we step outside, especially go on a walk/park, she simply cannot hear. She won’t listen to any commands, and especially does not hear her name. No movement at all when her name is called. She d”
“If your dog is between about 6 and 18 months and has suddenly started ignoring things they already knew you're not doing anything wrong, and they haven't forgotten. It's adolescence. Recall usually goes first. It's also the point where most people give up, and it's temporary. What tends to help: • Go back to easier versions of skills you thought were finished • Use a long line outdoors so failed recalls don't become practice • Reward the checking-in, not just the coming ba”
“Hi All, I’m in need of some ideas of how I can keep my 11 month old puppy engaged and focused on me while outdoors? She tends to completely ignore me when we’re out on walks / fields. She’ll either see people / wildlife / dogs and hyper fixate on them rather than stay engaged. A few times we’re been out and she’ll see another dog / walker and make it her mission to go over. I’ve tried treats, toys and now introduced bringing a ball. She’s not really interested in any of those. submitted by”

“My dog wont respond to being called today. Usually she does but today she's just be sitting down panting and staring at me. Cute sure, but she won't get up and come to me. Is this something to be concerned about or I'm just overreacting? This is only happened today, usually she'll get up and react to her name called. submitted by /u/New-Breakfast3400 [link] [comments]”
“Hi, first time posting in this sub Reddit, I have a 12 week old English cocker spaniel male. And right now we’re working on his recall training. The only issue is 10 to 15 minutes into training he just loses focus and wants to sit down and do nothing. And I don’t get frustrated I just put him on the other side of the puppy gate. Then I bring him back out so we can continue training. I’m wondering if this is the right move or if you guys have any other better recommendations to keep your puppy on”
“Hi guys! I'm from the Philippines, and soon, I will go abroad (in Japan) to study. I still have around 20 days left before my departure and I'll study for 6 months in there. I'm kinda worried for my baby a lot, he's already a senior dog (10 years old). He's a black half pomeranian, half shih tzu 🥺 He has white fur in his face and white fur in the mane area. He's Orion 🌌 He actually has kinda difficulties sleeping and he's always with me while I study and he always w”
“He knows what “come” means but if he gets ANY sort of distraction he wont listen.. i want to be able to take him to my property up north but i’m scared he’ll run into the woods and i wont be able to find him and 2 months later i have no success training him recall and i feel so stuck, ntm he refuses to stop chewing everything he can get ahold of. No matter how much redirecting i try, nor telling him no and thinking i’ve taken anything for him to chew he’ll chew anything 😭 submitted by ”
