“Advice for a small dog that received a caudectomy on day 1 due to severe curling. 3/4 tail removed and appeared normal. Now on day 3 the owner claims the dog has an additional rectal opening at the end of the tail since caudectomy, pooping and all. This can't be real, has anyone…”

Multiple dog owners report their dogs experiencing abdominal discomfort, blood in stool, and neurological issues following recent dental treatments. One owner's dog hid and seemed withdrawn after another dog jumped on him during a walk the same day as his procedure.

“Our 10yr old GSD/pit/chow has had a very rough 2 months. He had a surgery that triggered an acute kidney injury that took too long to diagnose. Because of the surgery recovery reduced activity/confinement then the illness, feeding tube, force fed medications hes gone from like the most boisterous food motivated trainable dog to being unwilling to eat almost anything. We are working with our vets closely but ive landed on thinking this is now a food aversion because he does seem to be hungry at t”

“My 11 Pitbull had a dental done today. She had 6 teeth pulled, most pretty small. One large one from the left side and a canine. They sent us home with gabapentin and I gave her that at 6pm and again at 1 am. It’s not almost 3 and she is resting but the whole last 2 hours She is restless. She can lay down anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour resting, but then she gets up and walks the room crying and then back to her bed. It’s been like this after each dose of the med since we brought her back ho”

“Miniature Poodle – recurring abdominal pain, fever, now not eating or drinking well I’m looking for ideas from other dog owners or veterinarians because we’re having trouble figuring out what is wrong with my miniature poodle. She has been having episodes of abdominal/belly pain. She has also had a fever during some of these episodes. She has had bloodwork done and it was normal. Her X-rays were also normal, and her pancreatic testing was normal, so the vet does not currently think pancreatitis”

“Hi! I have a 7yr old very healthy frenchie. She had dental surgery on Thursday and seemed fine until Saturday where she started having diarrhea and vomited 2 times. Vet told us to stop giving her the Onsior medication, however im not sure if I should go to an emergency vet. So far its been less than 24hr with the diarrhea and I haven’t seen blood either. In terms of appetite, she is fine and energy looks fine as well, she is obviously uncomfortable with the diarrhea tho. Any advice? submit”

“Hello, my 7 year old domestic short hair neutered male cat had a dental with two extractions on Thursday. Yesterday I noticed his abdomen was distended a bit and it feels kind of tight. He ate a little bit this morning but ate normally this afternoon and evening. I don’t notice anything super off other than a little lethargic. Otherwise using the litter box and eating and drinking. The meds he has been on: Gabapentin .4ml 100mg/ml every 12 hours Meloxicam .18 ml 1.5mg/ml every 24hours Amoxicilli”

The doctor considered to remove both upper molars left and right ( the very small ones behind the big one). Surgery went well, despite the dog waking up to several panic attacks. After a week, the problem is she’s very lethargic (beside at moments when she’s joyful but then she’s constantly retiring to quietness and letharg”

“Hi everyone. My 12 year old mini poodle just went through dental surgery where she had 9 extractions and a lump removed from her mouth. It’s been about few hours after the surgery, and we started to notice that she is shaking and whining a bit. The vet prescribed her gabapentin and we gave her the first dose about 3 hours ago, but it was really difficult to get it in her mouth through a syringe given that her mouth was the surgery site. She had a bit of it, but drooled a little bit of what we th”

“8½ m/old 5lbs Pomeranian went in for retained deciduous teeth extraction and was put under for it. Prescribed 4 days of Metacam and a soft food diet for a week. Around day 2-3 postop I noticed her bathroom habits were off schedule and she is only passing a small amount of stool. Finished the Metacam yesterday but today she is still constipated. Have been giving pumpkin puree. Wondering if the change in her eating habits could be contributing but it's all soft? She is acting completely fine.”

“My 15-year-old dog Bandit (about 28 lbs) recently had a dental procedure with multiple extractions. He has a grade 2 heart murmur but was otherwise not displaying this behavior before the dental. I’m trying to figure out whether anyone has seen a similar post-dental complication, particularly neuropathic/orofacial pain. Timeline: After the dental, Bandit was prescribed gabapentin 100 mg twice daily for approximately 7 days. During those 7 days, I did not notice any unusual face/mouth pawing. Aro”

“My dog recently had surgery, and a few days later started vomiting and having bloody diarrhea. It was a Saturday night so of course we went to the emergency veterinarian. She's quite anxious at the vet to begin with, and usually gets some sedation (trazodone, gabapentin) before her visits, but has never bitten anyone. Of course being an emergency and with her vomiting this would not be an option. At her last visit, she got all her routine care done (vaccines, annual heartworm test) while she”

“I’m in shambles, I’m extremely upset with myself for letting this happen. My 3 year old chihuaha has been recovering from his nuter which was second intention because he had already licked out his stiches and so we had to go that route. (The cone he had was a bit too small and he was licking it at night while I was asleep) anyways, it’s been about 10-11 days so he’s already finished with antibiotics, the scab on his sack had already fallen off yesterday so all was left but the scab to the incisi”

“Our dog is 2.5 years old, a Bichon, generally healthy, fit, at a normal weight (5.5 kg), and active. One day, he suddenly became sad, withdrawn, and hid in his usual hiding spot. He was not in the mood and did not respond when we called him. I gave him two treats to see if he would come to me, but he didn’t. He only ate them when I brought them to him. Earlier that day, during a walk, another dog jumped at him and scared him. It all happened within a second, so we are not sure whether the other”
