Several posts highlight concerns about Uber's pricing structure, unexpected rental charges, and the impact of fees on driver earnings. Drivers feel that comfort rides aren’t compensated fairly, and are worried about overdrafting due to hidden costs.

“You can do the cost of the rental, tolls, gas, parking and anything you bought to do your job. [re: Standard mileage on a weekly Hertz rideshare rental (Uber) — allowed or not?]”

“Look at these screenshots. I accepted a high-value Black SUV Reservation trip ($128 upfront fare). I drove 33 minutes (over 22 miles) out from Concord to the pickup spot, arriving early at 8:51 PM for a 9:00 PM scheduled ride.I sat at the curb and patiently waited all the way until 9:27 PM. The rider never showed up.When I went to cancel, the app completely glitched out. Look at the last screenshot: my phone clock at the top left says 21:27 (9:27 PM), but the Uber app is still telling me "P”

“I rented a car with Hertz Nashville, I was told that my first 30 trips would go towards the payment for the rental. I decided that I would make more money if I just used my own car. I returned it and was charged the full amount of the car rental. I contacted Uber Support and they said I need to talk to Hertz.. I only do this part-time and still made over 50 trips in 5 days just for the extra cash. Now I lost $444.00 and Hertz says there is no such thing as the trips paying for the car??????? I a”

“I'm going to pick up my rental car from Hertz to drive for Uber. Does anyone know if I'll have to pay a deposit on top of the first week's rental fee? submitted by /u/Own-Cloud-121 [link] [comments]”

“I picked up a ride with an upfront fare of 16.05 for 16 miles, I only took it because it’s on the way home, right after I dropped the person off I completed the ride, it’s gone, off my phone and completed, 10 seconds later I get a notification that the drop off has been updated, even though I had already finished the ride, I open up my phone and see I got paid 3.70 for the ride, I contact support and they say it’s due to potential long haul abuse, when I literally just did the ride as intended,”

“For a few hours today, every trip had some surcharge added to the earnings called "core charge". They varied between $15 and $45. The amount showed up on the match card, so they were all quite high and I accepted everything I saw instantly. When I looked at the trip details to understand what the extra amount was, this is what I saw. "Core Charge". I confirmed between trips that there were no surges in the area, in fact everything was really slow and I sometimes went 20 minut”

“I know already, don't — but I'm in a spot and have to. When renting the vehicle what charges hit your account and when? I presume the initial charge when picking up the vehicle, but when are weekly charges made? I have to use a debit card. I have enough to cover the initial rental but I'm concerned if/when other charges occur that might overdraft or are declined. Any other comments are welcome, but I'll state again — I'm very well aware - don't. submitted by /”

“Pricing has been a mystery to me since they switched to upfront pricing. But can this be right? A 17 minute, 4.6 mile comfort ride is worth $9, while a 9 minute, 1.9 mile electric ride is worth ... exactly the same? The comfort ride is twice the duration, more than twice the mileage, and with the higher comfort rate. Where did it go? submitted by /u/NegativeLayer [link] [comments]”
