ChatGPT and Gemini Skip Your Brand in Search Results

Founders and website owners are experiencing a significant shift in how customers discover products and services. Traditional SEO methods are no longer sufficient as AI-powered search assistants (like ChatGPT and Gemini) increasingly influence purchase decisions, leaving many brands invisible and struggling to measure their presence.

The problem: SEO tools only watch Google. AI tools only watch AI answers. Nobody checks both, and buyers now do both. Someone asks ChatGPT "best project management tool" and never opens Google at all. If your brand isn't in that answer, you lose the sale…

the thing those sites are doing is answering the exact question instead of selling. when you type plain questions ai pulls from whoever literally answered it in a clean structure. check if your pages describe products or actually answer how do i choose x and what is x good for. i use blawgy to automate pulling those question patterns but you can just scroll through the people also ask boxes and match your content to those exact phrasings

r/ecommerce6h ago

That’s a pretty cool signal. People are starting to search through AI the same way they use Google. Makes me think clear service pages and useful website content matter even more now, not just for SEO but for being understood by AI tools too.

r/EntrepreneurRideAlong14h ago

That would be an interesting follow up case study. You’re right about the correlation but Google doesn't actually use the simulated 1-100 Lighthouse score for SEO rankings. They rely on real-world Core Web Vitals data (like LCP and CLS) collected from actual Chrome users. The real ROI of a fast theme is usually a lower bounce rate and a higher conversion rate, rather than just magically jumping to page one on Google. Regarding third-party themes, your caution is exactly why I ran this test i

AI citations are not the same for every query, so it's not like there's a perfect process we can follow, but what helps is to have all the information on your site somehow. So either in the form of informative blogs, some good listicles, FAQs with questions someone may ask while searching for the product category, proper product descriptions etc. Just follow most of the rules of writing good SEO content, it's a good starting step.

r/ecommerce1d ago

The report shows clicks and impressions specifically from AI Overviews and similar surfaces, so it's worth checking whether your content is being cited there. For SaaS, that can be an early signal that your docs or comparison pages are getting picked up by AI tools.

Exactly. Thanks for sharing! I am also trying to use novamira to create a landing page in wordpress, not working yet but I believe I will manage to do it. When you say SEO research, it is like looking for blog post ideas?

r/ecommerce1d ago

The local-notes angle is probably the most interesting part. I’d be curious to see whether the personal ranking actually improves results compared with just using a normal search engine.

r/alphaandbetausers1d ago

I’ve done this for clients by asking those same “dumb customer” questions in ChatGPT/Perplexity, then tracking which brands get mentioned and what pages they’re pulling from. Compare your site to those winners on category explainers, “best X for Y” style guides, FAQs, and how often they’re cited, and use seoforgpt if you want that tracking done automatically.

I’ve been working on this problem with Ryze AI. At first, I thought detecting and sorting SEO issues would be the difficult part. Most websites already have more recommendations than anyone has time to implement. Things became more complicated when we started deciding what the agent could fix and what still needed approval. Repairing a broken internal link with an obvious replacement is usually low risk. Changing a canonical is different. If the agent gets that wrong, it could affect an entire s

I've been trying to understand how AI search engines decide what to recommend when someone looks up a product. I sell a pretty specific product and I've been pretty anxious over whether I'm set up for it. I started searching my own category the way a customer would. Just plain questions not optimized keywords. Some of the sites that keep coming up have way less brand presence than mine but something about them is making show up repeatedly, so I've been going through my own site t

One thing that jumped out while looking at our AI search data is how much attention old informational content gets compared with pages we actually care about commercially. We’re using Lightsite AI for the analysis. Not necessarily a problem, but it changed which pages I’m paying attention to. submitted by /u/GlizzyGilbert69 [link] [comments]

it is not hard to build using AI, get claude code or codex, just ask them to pull a few web search for you daily.

Track crawler access and assistant citations as separate checkpoints. A bot hit only shows that a page was fetched. Keep the 12 prompts fixed and record the assistant and run date so changes are comparable. For the brand-name case, make the real domain consistent in page metadata and public profiles. Use the same canonical URL in both. Then inspect where the wrong domain first appears instead of treating a later crawler visit as proof that the assistant will choose the right source.

r/EntrepreneurRideAlong2d ago

The crawler logs seem more actionable than the citation count. The cited pages were on help.openai.com and support.google.com, while your own logs showed ClaudeBot hitting 404s and no GPTBot activity. Two contributions of mine were added to a community wiki with attribution. I have never measured whether that affected any assistant response, so I cannot say that it did. But publishing useful material on a domain that is already crawled could be another variable to test with the same method. In t

I've spent the last 4 months testing GEO and one pattern keeps showing up: clarity + relevance + authority Clarity Can AI understand what you do and who you help? If your homepage needs a paragraph to explain the product maybe the positioning isn't clear enough. Relevance Are you creating content around the questions people actually ask AI? Not just: "what keywords should I rank for?" But: "what's the best tool for X?" "what are the alternatives?" "

r/SaaS3d ago

What it is: you put in a name and any public links, and it shows what the sources actually return about that identifier right now - each claim with the URL it came from. Then you can publish a public, no-login, machine-readable page that you control, which is the thing assistants are actually allowed to read. Why it exists: LinkedIn returns HTTP 999 to GPTBot and ClaudeBot. Instagram and TikTok return a flat Disallow. The pages holding your current facts are the ones the answer engines were told

r/alphaandbetausers3d ago

If this in something you’re interested in, it’s actually really fun to build a bot / crawler. I would not make it p2p to start because that adds a lot of complexity and I don’t think it will solve the main challenges. And you need to set your expectations: it’s gonna suck. Only do this if you’ll have fun learning how a search engine works.

Just to clarify for anyone reading this: this isn’t based on an actual test of Namiru. Our crawler doesn’t generate your business information. It extracts content from your website to create the initial knowledge base, which you can review and edit before deploying the agent. Namiru’s answers are then grounded in that knowledge base. If your website itself contains outdated or contradictory information, that should of course be corrected or removed from the knowledge base — which is exactly why

r/microsaas3d ago

your product pages are probably thin and static while the blog actually answers questions. crawlers and ai models prioritize pages that look like sources, not just endpoints with a buy button. i'd try adding faqs, use cases, or direct comparisons to those product pages, basically the same intent as your blog content but framed around the product itself. then hit them with hard internal links from the posts that are already getting crawled. it takes a few weeks but the crawl budget and the ci

Hey everyone, Traditional SEO is changing fast. With Google heavily prioritizing Gemini-powered AI Overviews, getting clicks from standard search listings is becoming much harder. If your website isn't optimized for how AI models retrieve, trust, and cite data, your organic traffic is going to take a major hit. To solve this, I’ve been building GEOAEOAuthority.com a SaaS designed specifically to monitor, optimize, and rank your business inside Google Gemini's AI recommendations. It analy

Thanks! It’s primarily URL-based rather than scanning product listings on the page. Auto-apply considers the shopping site and the current search/category, and it only activates when there’s a strong match with a saved preset. I’ve intentionally kept it conservative, optional, and controllable per preset, so filters from one type of search shouldn’t spill into unrelated searches. If you find it useful, I’d really appreciate a review on the Chrome Web Store—it would mean a lot and help more peopl

The part I’d want to see is less “AI-optimized” and more what actually changed month to month. For a small store, rankings and traffic can look nice in a report while revenue stays flat, so I’d want to see non-branded clicks, pages gaining traffic, conversions and ideally which queries are moving. I’d also be wary of pumping out a lot of AI content just because it’s easy to produce. A smaller number of genuinely useful pages that target real customer questions can be a much better use of time. I've been testing something with a few sites I work on and thought it was worth sharing. Years ago we used to dig through Google patents trying to figure out what Google wanted. Lately I've been looking more at where AI companies are actually getting their information. Reddit, AP, publishers, forums, etc. I've been leaning into that with SEO and recently saw organic traffic jump 161% on one site and 41% on another . Obviously I'm not saying this is all because of AI or that I&#39

r/SEO6d ago

Yeah, I think that framing makes it much more tangible. A score can be interesting, but seeing "you're recommending X instead of me" immediately gives you something to react to. And I agree on keeping the actual prompts/alternatives visible. That makes the result feel a lot less like some mysterious AI score.

Ridiculous to pay that kind of money. There are apps made specifically for Shopify that do this. Search ranktail they not only monitor all your prompts but they also have built in some cool backlinking tech, as well as a very cool hack for SEO / geo that has been working really well for us. I 100% wouldn’t pay an agency right now that kind of money unless you have zero knowledge at all of SEO /geo and want to be totally hands off and have zero to do with it. Export the queries from the days you sat at 40-50 and search them now. If the AI overview is gone, those impressions go with it even if the page did not change. If the overview is still there and you are not in the sources, put the answer in the first 50 words of that URL. Rewrite only those pages before you touch titles again.

r/SaaS8d ago

Yeah I came here to say this. I'm doing an experiment based on research I read about using quotes ("") around keywords in the metadata to tag the most important search terms.

But we did made it to AI Overview in 3 months and ranked in 4 weeks in Google Search. All about EEAT and quality content!

mine had the same gap until i stopped asking the model to remember. the version im shipping now keeps those values in rows with a source on each. the generator reads the rows.

r/EntrepreneurRideAlong9d ago

Memory in most of these tools is just a fancy word for cache, and it's not even good cache. You describe the problem really well, especially the part about hallucination persistence. Once garbage gets into the memory store, it becomes a recurring resident instead of a one-off mistake. The state outside the model approach makes sense. It's basically giving the model a commit history instead of asking it to recall the entire repository every time.

r/EntrepreneurRideAlong9d ago

I think one of the biggest problems with AI + SEO right now is that most of the tools don’t actually remember anything in a useful way. For context, I’ve been using AI pretty heavily since 2022 and I run a marketing agency where AI is now involved in most of the day-to-day work. SEO audits, research, content, reporting, internal processes, dev work, analysis, all of it. So I’m not coming at this from the “AI is useless” angle. It has made us way more productive. But the memory problem is still b

AI gets you 70% there, but your launch-day checklist (titles, descriptions, alt text, and Console) is what makes or breaks the other 30%—so pick the builder you won't procrastinate editing in.

Why do we need this test? If the result is low, why is it bad? Is it just to know or it has an actual use, like for SEO/GEO? I don't want to sound rude or something, I am just trying to understand the purpose of the tool.

r/microsaas10d ago

Honestly, the simplest method is to build a small set of real-world prompts around your products, run them across ChatGPT/Gemini, and track brand mentions, recommended products, competitors, and how your store is described. It’s manual, but it gives you a much clearer picture before paying for an enterprise tool.

I’d keep this pretty simple at first rather than buying into a big "AI SEO" setup. Make a list of the actual questions your customers would ask, then run the same prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and a couple of other models and record which products get mentioned, how they're described and who keeps showing up instead. Do it regularly because the answers can change quite a bit depending on the wording and context. I'd also save the exact prompts, otherwise it's hard to tell

AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and others have been sending traffic to our sites but we never knew what was the intent/prompt of the visitors that led AI to suggest our links. The fix turned out to be way dumber than I expected - just ask them. Introducing OriginQuery, a tool that detects all the visitors’ AI sources and learns what they asked. It doesn’t have access to their chats but it asks visitors to voluntarily provide info on what they asked the AI. I genuinely expected cl
